I arrived tonight in Las Cruces, New Mexico at around 8pm (MST). The drive itself was full of a couple of disappointments: I didn't get on the road as early as I wanted to, the Indianapolis Colts lost, and I didn't get to take a very good picture of the "Welcome to New Mexico" sign since it was already dark outside. Not to mention the sun cooked my skin a little bit thanks to the sunny day. Thank God for the few clouds that were out, though :) The plans for tomorrow have always been a little wishy-washy. I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay in Phoenix and make it an easy drive tomorrow (about 6 hours) and then a slightly longer drive to Fresno (around 8 hours) or if I wanted to go visit ... read more

We are leaving Las Cruces and will arrive in Tucson later this afternoon. We kind of got a late start b/c we had a problem w/ one of our power cords which had to be replaced. We also ran out of gas in the night but we were warm enough b/c of the electric heater!!! Ah, the joys ofd RVing. But it could be a lot worse. We stayed at a KOA again and it was very nice. Just a ways over the Rio Grande, set high up above the city. I should have taken some pics last night b/c the view was so pretty w/ all of the twinkling lights down below. But we were tired and hungry and anxious to just rest a bit. I also needed to do some laundry. The laundry facilities ... read more

Again arriving before the monument opened, I was somewhat disappointed as I had gotten up early so I could get some pictures of the sunrise out in the White Sands. Oh well. I had to settle for some pictures by the side of the road. After entering White Sands I head straight for the only hiking trail of any real distance in the park, the Alkali Flat Trail. Eventually the road turns to compacted sand, which I find out later is maintained by heavy equipment during the day as the sand is ever moving and trying to cover the road. I was the first to arrive at the trail so I had it all to myself. The trail is a little over a four mile loop and instead of being guided by signs or rock markings, ... read more

After leaving the cowboy camp we continued south, through Phoenix and Tucson to the famous town of Tombstone where we explored the gunslinger related history of the town. Afterwards, we a had a long evening drive (240 miles) into New Mexico where we set up camp and ate Fitz's Jambalaya (a taste of things to come).... read more
