We begin our exploration of our world with our first trip to the coast. It's promised to be a beautiful day and it was one of the best. After a quick stop at WAWA for some coffee, we headed to Chatsworth, home of Ocean Spray and the cranberry bogs. As is typical of the east coast there is lots of history here and we chatted with a local historian at the Chatsworth Country Store. After picking up some chocolate covered cranberrys, some New Jersey Honey and some cranberry soap, we headed east. We stopped at a few state parks, checked out some camping and canoeing opportunities and kept heading east. As we crossed the bridge to Long Island Beach, we realized we were entering a new world. Although much has closed for the season, there was ... read more

It was our last day at the beach and I wanted it to last - I've never been good at leaving the beach, but this time, I felt more than ever that I would be back. We made it to the beach by nine, and the morning is really the best time to relax on the beach. After setting up our chairs, we could sit in peace and quiet and watch the few lone fisherman guard their poles in their search for the perfect catch. At that time of day, the sunlight literally glitters on the water and the coolness in the air made us forget all about the previous day's humidity. We arrived around noon at one of my two favorite places on earth - Long Beach Island, NJ. Stopping at Bay Village and Schooner's Wharf was first on the agenda, since we couldn’t yet check in. They are also a definite must-see whether you're a regular LBI-goer or a first-time visitor. Bay Village and Schooner's Wharf are two of the ... read more

During the Bug Attack!

After we washed the salt and sand from our skin, we were off to dinner at an LBI staple - Panzone's. Open since 1980, they have, by far, the best pizza on the island. And maybe, the best pizza ever. I was excited to get back there, and prepared for a wait because it's definitely a popular dinner location. Luckily, we got there ahead of most of the groups of eight or sixteen that were looking for dinner, so we only had to wait about fifteen minutes. It was almost less than that, because they accidentally put a couple ahead of us on a different list, and tried to give us their table first. But we worked it out, and as always, it was worth the wait. Our waitress, Crystal, was a little out of it ... read more
