Sam and I woke up and found out there was rain on the way. By nature I am a tight-wad, And I don't like to spend lots of money unnecessarily but I was ready to get out of this place for better diggs. We rode down the rode 3.5 miles to Wiggins to a Hampton Inn. We got there about 9:30 and they were willing to let us check-in early and I waas bold enough to ask if we could eat breakfast right then. She had no problem with this. This was an enjoyable place to hold-up for the day. Sam and I took an early shower and I took an early nap. At 11:30 Tammy called from church while they were having a fellowship meal and I was able to visit with several folks from ... read more

I slept good last night, the extra blanket did he trick. When we were all out of our tents Bob said that was the best night of camping he had and he didn't want to do another. The problem there are no motels in our next stop but they did rent cabins or campers at the campground. When we finally called for reservatations they had rented the last one no more than a half hour earlier, Bob's heart just sank. We were on the road by 9:30, Bill & Rita had warned there was nothing on the road for the next 50 miles. They were right! We passed miles and miles of trees and a occasional house. We stopped in the town of Laure for lunch. This "town" consisted of one church and some type of ... read more

When we took off in the am I started with short sleves and a vest. Within the first three miles I was un-zipped and by 10:30 I was ridding only a short sleeve shirt on. We stopped by Dee's Pecans and visited with the owner and got some snacks, it was a really cool time. On a dare from Bob I tried some pecan coffee, I still don't like coffee. While riding on the side of the road I was passed by a peticularly rude person with honking and everything. When he rode back he returned the favor again. I guess you meet all kinds. We had second breakfast at McDondalds. As we were leaving the great state of Alabama we had to ride through some more road construction. Bob, Mary and I rode on the ... read more

The day started early with breakfast downstairs before I headed to the Hertz place to collect our Hire Car. They gave me a Buick Enclave which is a stationwagon that is large enough and has really nice interor. It’s raining in New Orleans this morning so good to be leaving town on NYE and heading north to Jackson which is the capital city of Mississippi. The drive took about 3.5 hours and as we crossed the border leaving Louisiana we stopped by a welcome centre which had a lovely lady who offered me coffee and maps / information etc. Kerry said she was Dolly Parton’s sister (without he gifts !) as she gave us all a Mississippi pin and a Happy NYE farewell y’all. The rain had eased on the drive and we had overcast skies ... read more

We did such a long journey from Spain just to visit the most significant landmark of Tupelo: Elvis Presley´s two- room house where he was born on January 8, 1935. We love Elvis and his music, undoubtedly it´s well worth the endless flight and the miles we drove till we got there. ... read more

Friday, 12 November, 2010 We got up early and drank coffee and ate fresh biscuits from the marina store. Just after 8:30 we headed out again, following the marked channel from the marina that winds through the swamp back to the main channel. We had a short wait at Aberdeen Lock, just a mile downriver from the entrance to the marina. Then we just putt-putted along until we reached Stennis Lock around 2:00. We anchored for the night in Luxapalila Creek, not far from some barges that were secured to dolphins along the north side of the creek. We felt pretty safe, assuming that since it was Friday night and the barges appeared empty, there would be no activity overnight. There is a boat ramp nearby, and the parking lot is lighted, so we had marks ... read more

Thursday, 11 November, 2010 Happy Veterans Day to all veterans and those who currently serve. We thank God for you and we thank you for your service. We went through three more locks today, that means only six more between here and Mobile, AL. The section we cruised today is mostly a canal, cut by the Army Corps of Engineers because the Tombigbee River here is so winding. It’s much prettier than the divide cut, with more signs of civilization and even some pretty fall colors. First was Fulton Lock with a 35’ drop. Fifteen miles down river was Wilkins Lock with a 25’ drop. Amory Lock was only 5 miles from Wilkins and the canal was straight between the two so you could see both locks from any point. Amory Lock was a 30’ drop. ... read more

Monday, 8 November, 2010 We dawdled this morning since we were just going across Yellow Creek to Aqua Yacht Harbor Marina. Once there, we took on 84.55 gallons of fuel before tying up at the transient dock. After lunch we borrowed the courtesy car and the four of us went to Walmart in Corinth, MS. Sara and Trevor needed to replenish supplies and Kerry was looking for a new transducer for the depth finder. When he couldn’t find one, he just ordered one from Amazon to be delivered to Demopolis. After supper we enjoyed hot showers before turning in early. Tuesday, 9 November, 2010 We were up early, but fog again kept us from leaving until nearly nine. We are finally heading south on the TennTom. It was not far to the Divide Cut, a man-made ... read more

I am planning a trip to Biloxi, Mississippi, as I have never been there before. I have heard many stories about the city. I have heard how it is much like Las Vegas with it's casinos and different types of shows. However, it is a totally different atmostphere because it is number one in the South and number two on the Gulf. I will need to fly in to the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, and I am having trouble finding a great rate (notice I didn't say good rate) for that location. That is one of the few reasons that I haven't been to the area, but I have faith that I am going to find a great deal within the next year. That is one reason that I wrote this article How to Travel to Biloxi, ... read more

9-19-10 Spent half the day today trying to find an authorized service center for the air conditioners. The front one quit working entirely, and now the back one has developed a leak...not a good thing when the weather is over 90 degrees with about 85% humidity. Drove around to see if we could find a place that had football on. Ended up at The Dock Bar & Grill. It was right on the water, does, in fact, have a dock, so I could watch the boats while G watched football. It was located on the “back bay” of Biloxi. Then Glenn played cards for a bit in the early evening while I sat on the beach in my lawn-chair with my toes in the sand. 9-20-10 Called Mike at Power Source RV Repair this morning and ... read more
