Home, Again We arrived safely at home, very early on Wednesday morning. We have tons of laundry (sandy!), are still in some time zone between here and Cairo, almost 2000 pictures, and many wonderful memories. Headed to Michigan recently after finishing up in West Virginia. My cousin was having a graduation party and we figured it was only 7 hours away instead of the normal 10. Why not go? Also had a chance to stop in Ann Arbor to see my uncle Joe and Adrian to see my grandparents. Never enough time, but such is life. Michigan is exactly the way I remember it. My family moved away in 1993 because of job opportunities and their don't seem to be any new jobs since we left. Stores look the same, with older construction, advertisements and products. This week kicked off our Rome_Paris study abroad trip and we are all so excited! The first day, we worked with our GSI, Joss, in learning some basics of both French and Italy and worked with Dawn in learning some measurement techniques that we will be using in various cities in Europe to measure different buildings and areas. Yesterday, we did some more language and measure work, and then moved on to making map and information books for the trip. So, here I am, back in the good old U-S-of-A, living life as an umemployed post-traveler, moping around my parents house, catching up on TV, and reminiscing with photos from my trip! Bij aankomst in de VSvA is de temperatuur dezelfde als in Rio. De temperatuurschaal is er jammer genoeg wel Fahrenheit ipv. Celsius. Het is er ijskoud dus. Gelukkig breekt al na een paar dagen de lente door. We kunnen zelfs BBQ’n. We zijn er op bezoek bij Tom, Viki en Noah (merci voor de gastvrijheid!) in Ann Arbor (in de staat Michigan, op een boogscheut van Detroit). Der letzte Tag ist ja bekanntlich der Tag an dem die letzten grossen Aktionen gestartet werden muessen weil man sonst die Torschlusspanik bekommt. So war es auch bei Kate und mir. Wir haben einen super Tag gehabt, voll mit Erlebnissen und Aktionen. Der Tag begann mit einem Fruehstueck mit Liz, einer alten Bekannten, die ich in Deutschland kennenlernen konnte. Heute ist endlich richtig sonniges Wetter in Ann Arbor. Gestern war es sen ganzen Tag so windig, dass es mir fast meine nicht-vorhandene Parueke vom Kopf geweht haette. Gut, dass ich keinen brauche! Kate hat Moni und mich heute mitgenommen zu einem Seminar ueber Astronomie. Es war sehr interessant und ich habe alles sprachlich gut verstanden obwohl ich gedacht haette, dass sie mit Woertern um sich schmeissen wuerden, die ich noch nie gehoert habe (also so wie die deutschen Philosophiestudenten... Jetzt bin ich schon bei Kate in Michigan. Um aber noch einiges nach zu holen was ich aus Louisiana nicht schreiben konnte werde ich zuvor diesen Kapitel meiner Reise abschliessen. Wie ich bereits erzaehlt hatte, hat sich Matthew grosse Muehe gegeben mir Louisianas Schoenheit zu demonstrieren. Das ist - wie Ihr sicherlich schon vermutet habt - ihm auch sehr gut gelungen! Whit, playing our travel agent, has come up with a great set of plans for our trip. * Monday morning, Feb 25, we plan to fly from Auckland to Queenstown; probably staying at the Pinewood Lodge ($90NZ) on Mon, Tue, and Wed night. * Tuesday is our Milford Sound all day sidetrip. * Wednesday is our 1/2 day Lord-of-the-Rings tour! Saying my last good-byes It's been nice taking time this past month to see many important people and having the time to catch up on their lives before leaving. I've been pretty lucky to not have to work for the short time I've had off to be able to do this. Whenever I visit Ann Arbor, I love walking around seeing everything, enjoying just being there, especially without everyday stresses of school work and extracurriculars.
