Blogs from Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States, North America
The First ... well, the ninth.
Published: January 9th 2012North America » United States » Michigan » Ann ArborHello, Internets. I'll start off short, as I'm sure I'll spend much time ranting and raving in the near future. I've decided to blog my way through 2012 (and maybe even the years to come) as I'm getting off of my bum and setting foot on the rest of the world. Having spent nearly 2 years in the same place without even leaving the state of Michigan, it has come to my attention that I've turned my back on all the things that bring me the most joy. First on the agenda is a domestic trip to the lovely town of Boston, where I will be doing a training course with my current employers. Then, a few months from now, I will be embarking on a trip to Germany. Munich, to be exact. Something I've been ... read more
The Story of the Big House and the Big Red Cup
Published: November 14th 2011North America » United States » Michigan » Ann ArborI pre gamed 16 hours too early so by the time I got to the “Big House” the game was already over. I arrived half hour west of Detroit to Ann Arbor the college town of the University of Michigan. I came here for the total college experience pre kick off and during so when I arrived at my accommodation, my first official couch surfing experience I couldn’t believe my luck when I was informed I am invited to a dress up party in a few hours. Michigan is a freezing place and walking around for an Australian from Sydney the wind chill is a scary cold. So much so I bought a beanie and some hand gloves. I didn’t care what the gloves look like as long as they kept me warm. U of Michigan ... read more

Flights cancelled=Spontaneous drive to Chicago!
Published: June 20th 2011North America » United States » Michigan » Ann ArborWell, a rocky start to the trip has tested everyone's resolve and patience. But some good problem-solving has hopefully made it possible for the team to get to India on time, and on the original flight from London. We'll see. Here's what happened (in a nutshell): Tornadoes and severe weather in the Chicago area caused flight cancellations, subsequently filling up later flights we had hoped to catch. Add to the mix that all car rental agencies in the area were out of cars (go figure). Add again the fact that flights tomorrow are full too. Total bummer. Tim and Lainie to the rescue. They are driving the team to Chicago as I write this, and hope to catch the 7:15 to London (a flight only 2 hours later than the original). So the prayer is 1. ... read more
Day 1 - Leaving on a jet plane
Published: May 6th 2010North America » United States » Michigan » Ann ArborWelcome to the blog! I’ve never blogged before, so no guarantees this will be interesting (especially this entry). I should probably add that my spelling will likely be terrible, don’t judge. I can’t believe this trip is finally here! My plane leaves in about 6 hours. The flight is 15 hours, non-stop from Detroit to Shanghai. It lands around 6:30pm local time, which would be 6:30am eastern. That will be some intense jet lag. I’m just going to take things one at a time once I get there. First goal is getting to the hotel, second is finding food. At least I feel prepared - I even packed last night! Normally I don’t even think about packing until a couple hours before heading to the airport. So I should be totally set, right? I took my ... read more

Road Trip: The Planning Stage
Published: February 26th 2010North America » United States » Michigan » Ann ArborSo today begins the progress of the official plans for our road trip. The question now is...where will we go? East? West? South? NORTH TO ALASKA!!? hahaha (probably not) but...it's an exciting prospect. Regardless...I am serious about this proposal. I feel that you two are the only ones who will actually follow through with this. I want this more than anything. Everyone else I know has jobs, and soon we will all have big girl jobs too, so I really want to do this now more than ever. Please be involved and keep planning! if you don't do it, I swear I will go by myself! Our assignments: pick the region you would most likely roadtrip to and do some research as to which cities/monuments/events/museums/festivals/restaurants/national landmarks you would like to visit. We need to get a ... read more
Well im setting up my travel blog for my trip to Brazil. My adventure begins somewhere around the 15-20th of this month. So we will see how it goes. It looks as though I am flying out of Chicago and I believe it is a direct flight from chicago to San Paulo and then on to Rio. My very good friend Nayse will be picking me up from the airport in Rio and we are going on to a small city called Saquirema north of Rio about an hour. I will be there for a short time and back to Rio with some momma Da Silva. I will keep everyone informed on my future adventures. Depending on how it goes with this FB interface I will either keep it as is, or just contact everyone who ... read more
Day 1: It’s been 9yrs A redeye flight to AA arrived shortly after 6am, wide awake although I wasn’t able to sleep much on a plane. Still dark outside, the sun was just about to start to come out. On the way to AA, there were familiar names of freeway exits but completely lost - disappointing. It’s been a long time. But once I got to State x South U, it all came back to me Started to see places that I used to go to and I was in business. By far, the most appropriate place to kick off the trip - Espresso Royale. Same ol’ lemon poppyseed muffin. Sat there for a bit, looking into North U, totally overwhelmed with low-budget-movie moments - swirl of nostalgia and self-reflection. Alright, enough. Although there was cloud, ... read more
