Another day, another college football game. Today was markedly different from yesterday. First off, we didn’t have nearly so far to travel as we did yesterday. Ann Arbor is only an hour away from East Lansing, so that made it easier to sleep in. But it also meant that we didn’t have as many stops to make along the way. In fact, we only made one ‘stop’ between the two towns, and I wouldn’t really call it a stop since we didn’t actually stop the car. There’s a town called Hell that’s semi on the way between our two schools for this weekend, with only maybe a ten-minute detour. So of course we had to see that. Everything I saw online said that it was basically a tourist-trap type of place, but when we drove into ... read more

We were up early around 8.00am and got ourselves organised to start our road trip. First order of business was to get some breakfast and during our orientation walk of Chicago yesterday we came across a couple of places on South Michigan Avenue that looked OK so we went to this place a couple of blocks from our hotel called the Artists Café. One thing I noticed about Chicago that surprised me was how it is set up for cold weather. They generally have two sets of doors to get into buildings so the cold can stay out and in this café they had a section in the corner with something like 30 coat hangers like you have in a wardrobe. Look weird and then it dawned on me during winter everyone is probably layering up ... read more

Geo: 42.2819, -83.7485ANN ARBOR Friends, eating, drinking, laughing and 8 Mile. Meeting up with other ex-Nanjing friends. It's funny when you haven't seen friends for a long time you just seem to fit back into each other's lives. Just like you haven't been apart. It's strange but it all feels normal. We went to a really odd artsy place called The Heidelberg Project. It's an area where artists have taken over a rundown housing area and have turned it into works of art by using lots of recycled objects. It's really organic and earthy. There was a slogan that said, "Detroit vs Everyone" My friend asked if I wanted to see something in particular I wanted to see in Michigan. "8 Mile?" I replied. "Really?" She said with a shocked face. She listed of about five other ... read more

Nostalgia strikes again: Only with redeye flight, do I wish the flight was a tad bit longer. It didn't leave until 11pm which is way way past my bed time and didn't even fly for 5 hours. Especially after all week of pre-5am starts, I was passed out at the gate already. I remember my neck hurting and being cold but I must have slept decent. I was surprisingly awake at 4am PST. Mingji picked me up at the airport and we were off to Ann Arbooor, woohoo! It had only been a year. With gray sky and chilly air, I didn't feel so distant to this place. Fuller Rd felt especially familiar from my solo run last year. Covering place on foot is so powerful. We went to the League's Beanster for breakfast. League was ... read more

It's only a few hours till I board for my flight to China. It's the biggest committment I've made in my life and I'm so glad I've had very little time to dwell on things. I'm really looking forward to seeing Camilla and Pravine and getting settled over the weekend. I'm also excited for all the new things I'll be experiencing and sad to be leaving all my friends for a while. I promise to update when I can, but Lindsay said it was a while before she was able to get internet access and the ability to contact back home. So for now I say goodbye and don't worry about me. I'll be in contact a.s.a.p. and will tell you all about my two day plane ride. Love you all!... read more

Being a Michigan fan in Pac 10 (ok, Pac 12 now, whatever) territory hasn’t been easy. With football, some ignorant broadcasting companies would happily cut off an exciting OT with a Bruins game that nobody cares about. Unless it’s nationally televised, I spent many Saturday mornings in front of streaming radio. Last year this time, my fan-dom confidant and guidance brought Women’s Football Academy to my attention, I banged my head for not knowing this earlier. Since then, I had my eyes and ears open for 2012 event and registration. The event not only provides women an opportunity to learn about M football, but also benefits the cancer center at the M hospital – brilliant. I had absolutely no reason not to participate! This year was gonna be special. Last year was one of the successful ... read more

I pre gamed 16 hours too early so by the time I got to the “Big House” the game was already over. I arrived half hour west of Detroit to Ann Arbor the college town of the University of Michigan. I came here for the total college experience pre kick off and during so when I arrived at my accommodation, my first official couch surfing experience I couldn’t believe my luck when I was informed I am invited to a dress up party in a few hours. Michigan is a freezing place and walking around for an Australian from Sydney the wind chill is a scary cold. So much so I bought a beanie and some hand gloves. I didn’t care what the gloves look like as long as they kept me warm. U of Michigan ... read more

Well, a rocky start to the trip has tested everyone's resolve and patience. But some good problem-solving has hopefully made it possible for the team to get to India on time, and on the original flight from London. We'll see. Here's what happened (in a nutshell): Tornadoes and severe weather in the Chicago area caused flight cancellations, subsequently filling up later flights we had hoped to catch. Add to the mix that all car rental agencies in the area were out of cars (go figure). Add again the fact that flights tomorrow are full too. Total bummer. Tim and Lainie to the rescue. They are driving the team to Chicago as I write this, and hope to catch the 7:15 to London (a flight only 2 hours later than the original). So the prayer is 1. ... read more
