So it is all still pretty surreal. I leave in a few short days. The past few days have just been spent trying to see a few peopls and working to pack and get all of my stuff together. Packing for 3 season and an entire semester is not as easy as it sounds let me tell you!! Anyway I found this cool countdown thing and thought it might help me realize that I am actually leaving! Yes it is corny I know but if you have subscribed to this blog you better get used to that. I am a big fan of corny! Well I am off to bed more fun packing adventures tomorrow:) ... read more

I'll be leaving for Chiapas, Mexico on the 19th of January along with 2 of my coworkers from Equal Exchange to visit coffee farmers and learn about the history of Mexico. I am slightly nervous! Another co-worker, is in Nicaragua visiting our coffee farmer partners. Check her TravelBlog out!... read more

Recently, perhaps fueled by the ending of my educational career and beginning of my quasi-professional career, or perhaps fueled by my new found time to actually reflect on my travels, I have indulged myself into thinking that I could possibly delve into the world of travel writing. Uh huh, travel writing, yup that’s right. However, with no solid English background, except the 3 I got on my AP English exams 5 years ago in High School, and the current lack of funds I have to take the exalted "backpacking through Europe" trip etc etc, this goal seems just slightly out of reach. No problem I said. I could potentially have an audience of fives, if not tens of people if I only jump on what has begun to seem like the largest 21st century band wagon ... read more

Arrived in Plymouth around 2:30. I asked a police officer how do you get to the rock? I said it a little jokingly and he laughed. I walked down to the rock and looked around. A local said I should walk out on the pier as it is about 1.5 mile walk. I only put an hour in the meter so I needed to keep moving. I ran ½ the way. These rocks shoot way out into the bay I assume intended to provide a wind break for the harbor. When I got back I spoke with some fisherman and told them I need to get back to my truck as my meter’s about expired. They said this time of year the meters are free. Therefore I talked a little longer and decided to eat some ... read more

Wow, I am definitely off the grid at this point. I am in a Boston Hostel. Not sure what to say about it. There’s a billion very unique people. One kid is playing the piano. He is actually very good. He has no sheet music. I am truly impressed by his ability. There are lots of Asians. Parking is costing me $10 / night and the hostel is $35 so it’s not real cheap to say the least. I am thinking about walking to Fenway. It’s a little sensory overload at the moment. Man you see all kinds here. A lady to my left is eating some soup in a styrofoam cup and a banana. Not going to gain weight eating that. The guy has stopped playing the piano I think to rest his hands. My ... read more

It would be fun for my international friends who are always counting their states between them as a competition!... read more

Got up around 7 and headed for Martha’s Vineyard around 8, which is a little over an hour drive. Since it’s the Winter only one ferry is running at Woods Hole. The boat is cool and holds about 20 cars and lots of people. They charged me $6 round trip to take my bike. Talked to a local plumber who lives on Martha’s Vineyard during the ferry crossing. He has been there his whole life. He said there are more people there now days, but said it is good for guys like him because he gets some of the new resident's money to do work for them. As a result he says he has more money now. He said there are a lot of deer there. He said he use to hunt them, but doesn’t anymore. ... read more

After arriving in Boston from Nova Scotia we dumped our bags at our crumby hostel and set off to explore. Our intended route took us up through the main area of Boston following the path of the river. It was immediately obvious that Boston is a city of many different contrasts and has, over the course of its long and interesting history, been subjected to many varied influences and cultures the result of which is a city where a 10min walk can have you in a completely new and interesting neighbourhood. Boston and Sports It is also immediately obvious that Boston is a city that lives and breathes sport. We had no sooner left our hostel than we bumped into the TD Banknorth Garden, home of the Boston Celtics and the Boston Bruins. To show just ... read more
