You would think, that after a year of planning my backpacking trip that I would have everything completed and done. But of course not! As I type this, I have repacked more times than Paris Hilton has boyfriends, I've ran to the nearest store to by that last minute trial size bottle of shampoo, paid my bills on time (nothing is more suckier then returning home from vacation with a LAST WARNING envelope hanging on your doorstep), and completed my odds and ends. So why do like I am missing something? I think it has to do with the uncertainty of backpacking. I've traveled around the world with tour groups and a security blanket of everything being taken care of. Drop me in the middle of the Sahara with 30 people and I'm cool as a ... read more

On Monday/Tuesday, I enjoyed a nice stay in Stowe, a small town about 40 km East of Burlington in the Vermont mountains, with very good hotels and excellent restaurants (and many tourists). Stowe is famous as skiing place with nice slopes on Mount Mansfield (4800 ft high), as an artist's retreat with many nice sculptures placed around the town, and because the Trapp-family (known from the 'Sound of Music' movie) have located here their retreat (better hotel complex). Everything is perfectly done - for my taste a bit too perfect, I escaped for dinner to the next place Morristown which is not touristic at all and still served me an excellent black-bean burger with life Country&Western music. Actually, I ended up in Stowe due to its nice little airport - I had a long list of ... read more

Today was a great day. In the morning I took my sister to a great local restaurant for breakfast named Chuck Wagon. The breakfast was great and the company was better. Enjoyed catching up with my sister over a hot breakfast. Shortly after leaving Chuck Wagon, my sister and I drove to Greenfield, MA to make a surprise visit to my Dad and his Hot Dog cart. More to come on this. While driving to Greenfield, we drove north on I-91 until we reached Holyoke. We exited the freeway because there were delays due to construction. We drove on Route 5 north past some memory maker sites. First we passed the a New England favorite, Yankee Pedlar (http://www.yankeepedlar.com/). While in college I worked in the Simone's restaurant at the bottom of the restaurant. Still a beautiful ... read more

I hører nærmer...zzzzzzzz. Vi vågnede til normal amerikansk tid og var friske og veludvilede. Ned og få vafler og continental morgenmad. Vi besluttede at blive en dag mere i ... read more

So for anyone who hasn’t figured it out yet, Greg and I are Red Sox fans (I’m newer, pre reversing the curse enough to not be a bandwagon hopper, but without all the battle scars… Greg has been his whole life). Every year, we’re usually lucky enough to make the trek down to Boston to visit my favourite place in the entire USA… FENWAY PARK!!! So here’s our 2011 Boston adventure... a pretty quick one, but a great one all the same. July 1st is our national holiday here, and we spent the entire day busting ass to get ready to go away. Saturday morning, we did our normal farmers’ market day, and then immediately hopped in the car and headed off to the states. We stopped for gas on the outskirts of Bangor and grabbed ... read more

One of the characteristics that attracted me to Boston, Massachusetts was the pride that radiates from this city. Bostonians LOVE Boston. Akin to the patriotism and passion I have seen from fellow travelers toward their home countries, Bostonians are proud of their city, their culture, their history, and have known to be a bit..overprotective of their territory. Despite haults in traffic, riot warnings, liquor license restrictions on bars, and a couple worried phone calls from my father; I would have been damned to not be downtown Boston during the Stanley Cup Final watching the game in the belly of the beast. On June 15th, I crammed myself on to the Red Line and booked it to Boylston St. where the sidewalks were filled with fans in black and yellow scouting for good spots watch the game ... read more

There is less than one week left until my trip to China! I am excited and nervous to be traveling out of the country for the first time. I hope to be able to bring back a lot of good information and pictures to share with my world geography 6th grade students! I think that it is important to educate students about the history and culture of China. It is also vital to discuss how China will play a role on the world stage in the coming years, which is a key topic of discussion throughout the study tour. To prepare for the trip, our group from Bridgewater State University went to Chinatown in Boston, to learn about the history of Chinese immigration to America, and also to eat at a Chinese restaurant together. While the ... read more

The population was out in force today to help celebrate Memorial Day and remember all the lost lives whilst serving for the US and indeed for Western democracy. Many Americans are still serving in current global hotspots and everyday they put themselves in danger so we can maintain our way of life. I certainly have immense respect for the sacrifice they make for the rest of us. I went for a walk around Boston harbour this morning and found some expensive condos just south of the main ferry wharves. I then walked across an old abandoned bridge which must have carried trains or cars out to the piers near the Boston World Trade Center. There wasn't much out that way besides some piers, new condos and a few restaurants. The Boston fishing pier is also located ... read more

Spent an enjoyable day seeing the sights in sunny Boston. I think I have finally began my warm weather holiday! After a few days of warm weather in L.A, I have pretty much had cool/cold weather since so it was good to be back in t-shirt weather and sweating :) Didn't leave the hotel until after 10am and made my way down to the Faneuil Hall and bought myself a ticket for a trolley car hop-on hop-off tour. Boston is quite spread out and I thought jumping on a tour would allow me to get around. My first stop would be the U.S.S Constitution which is across the bridge and definitely a little too far to walk in this heat. The Constitution is an old navy sail ship and was undefeated in battle. It is still ... read more
