Another short flight from Washington to Boston and I arrived to more bitingly cold temperatures. Getting in, in the evening, and it was time to check in to a hostel/hotel that didn't have my booking, once sorted I was out exploring the streets. Just trying to familiarise myself with the city, although I might have walked down a few ill-advised streets. While in Boston I checked out Fenway Park, the home of the famous Boston Red Sox and went on a tour of the stadium, although it was a little annoying they were digging up the surface and some areas we [View Full Entry]

Welcome to my travelblog! It is very important to me that I keep in touch during my 4 month adventure to Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. I hope to avoid mass emails and encourage you to find out what I'm up to at your own pace. I am new at this blogging business. Tips are appreciated! Also a warning: these blogs are public so please beware that anyone can read your posted comments (including my parents) :). Somerville, Wellesley and Jamaica Plain: For the week up to my departure, I am visiting many friends in the Boston area and met up [View Full Entry]

Little update on my travel trip to Boston. Boston was the first destination I traveled alone and it wasn't that bad travel alone cause you got to know people and people just came to you and talk to you. For instance, when I arrived at the train station while looking for my way to the hostel, one old lady came to me and said :"Dear, r u lost'? And she was so nice and pointed me to the correct way and I talked to her a little bit. After I got to my hostel, I went to Cambridge to visit Harvard [View Full Entry]

Tomorrow I set off to Costa Rica for a four month adventure. This central american country is my first destination of many as I journey across the world both to work as a volunteer and to observe and learn the ways of cultures around the globe. I don't have anything specific to write about at the moment. Basically, this blog functions as a run through to orientate myself with the server. My bag is packed. My tent is ready to be pitched. My mind and heart are as wide as my eyes. [View Full Entry]

2-2 @ the bottom of the 9th & the red sox big hitter Ortiz is up! The crowd R going sic, bostonites luv their baseball! 2 strikes then smack and the ball comes flying towards me and lands in the isle next to me 30 rows up! Boston is a great little city, clean and pretty, a nice change from stinky N.Y! I stayed 5 days and got to walk round the city, checked out the Boston public parks, went to the fine arts museum for free with the hostel, checked out Harvard (damn I could roll up the joint!), saw [View Full Entry]

Politeness is rife in Boston. Normally a quaint human nature, the well mannered Bostonians have taken politeness to another level. I've stood at a doorway, one person going in and one person going out for an uncomfortably long time while 2 Bostonians "Excuse Me" each other encouraging the other to walk through first. This politeness extends to driving where at stop signs and pedestrian crossings the drive to wave someone through gets to comedic and potentially dangerous levels. The best word I can come up with to describe Boston traffic is 'compliant'. Traffic is fluid, little attention is [View Full Entry]

From New York I took the Amtrak train to Boston and made a direct escape for the nearest beach. I have now walked the beaches on the west (Santa Monica, CA), north (Lake Michigan) and east (Revere Beach, MA) borders. I also went up to Salem and spent sometime with the local witches who tried to cast a spell over me. I have enjoyed meeting new people most are easy to get to know and just curious as to why an Australian would be passing their "little town". One of them I could swear looked just like Bridget Fonda. Nevertheless after [View Full Entry]

Along the way to Boston

Having a great time here in Boston with my friend Kay who I met at camp. The weather has been glorious and so far we have been up the Prudential tower for some great views over the city, on a boat cruise, walked round Harvard and visited the museum of fine arts. For our last day we intend to walk the Freedom trail and hit the shops! Boston is a very easy city to get around, the people are friendly, it is very clean and there is even air conditioning on the subway! A bit different to London. Walked past Fenway [View Full Entry]
