NO GO: BOSTON AND NEW YORK CITY. TIME TO REGROUP. CHANGE OF PLANS. Today was good and bad. Starting with the good: First, en route to Portland, Maine from Camden, riding through Damariscotta, Maine where author Stephen King wrote many of his thrillers (perhaps I should have stopped and blogged here, though they would be considerably darker). Second: stopping in Wiscasset, Maine at a little shack after the second long bridge right by the river called Red's Eats for the top-billed "Best Lobster Rolls" in Maine, waiting in a lineup of 20 people for half an hour before getting to the window, ordering 2 lobster rolls for lunch, and being asked for $37.49. Waaaaaaa. It's tooooooo hhhhhhhhhhhhoooooottttttttttttttt ...... (I did NOT, I repeat, did NOT say that out loud). BUT 34 degrees C at 10:00 o'clock this morning with increasing humidity as the day went on. Maine! Land of lobsterpounds, la-la, and no helmet laws. The border crossing at Saint Stephen, NB into Maine was on a bridge over the Saint Croix River. My US border agent clearly didn't attend the same charm school as my interrogator at the Soo, and we entered the US very seriously indeed. So, once upon a time, we started this roadtrip, which I call “url=http://biggestballofstring.wordpress.com/2013/03/10/to-deadwood-south-dakota-in-a-disposable-car/Adventures in a Disposable Car“. As mentioned, the plan was to drive one way, from Calgary to Halifax, Nova Scotia, through the United States, and then fly home. BUT the car only made it to Omaha, Nebraska. We rented a car at the Omaha airport, but since we had no intention of returning it to the pick-up location, we weren’t allowed to drop-off the car in Canada. So, we immediately came up with a Plan B (or C or D), which was: we’ll drive the car to Bangor, Maine, and then catch the Greyhound Bus, from Bangor to Bar Harbor, and then, from Bar Harbor, we’d take the ferry to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, where ... read more

Geo: 44.4258, -69.0069We had a great breakfast on the terrace/veranda of our Jonesport B&B and chatted with our hosts (New Yorkers), the place is for sale because their age is against them.....very tempting.This was the best B&B ever and on this brilliant sunny day, when we woke watched the sun rise while lying n bed in the spacius attic, through the panorama windows I { Liz} could move here tomorrow. But i'm told that winters are long and summers short and other than fantastic scenery everything is miles away. Cloudless blue skies certainly make the trip, even if the wind was a little chilly.Then the brother of the 'landlady' gave us a tour of the ground floor of the next door house which the Jonesport Historical Society are developing as their museum/meeting place. Good morning Portland. So the day was overcast but we still had a full schedule and most of it was driving, so it wasn't too much of a problem. It is a neat little town. We did not get to see much of it on the drive in the previous night. There are some cruise ships docked across the street from the hotel. Those are some big boats.
