This morning after we got ready and ate breakfast we quickly cleaned the van and trailer as it was getting pretty filthy then set off to New Orleans. We arrived mid afternoon and went straight to the hotel to drop off our stuff. Tonight we were staying altogether in a large house like room which was made up of two separate quarters. We ran around choosing our beds and bringing our gear in before it was time to catch a boat down the Mississippi river. We walked down to the pier, bought tickets and before long we were sailing down the river getting amazing views of the city of New Orleans. Some areas of New Orleans were still looking a little rough and run down due to hurricane Katrina, even though that was two years ago. ... read more

March 8 - 10, 2007 This was my first trip to the South and it was for business. I was contemplating taking a job with the Training department of our company and for this job I would have to travel quite a bit. They decided to take me to New Orleans for a workshop at LSU to see how I liked it. We landed on Thursday, March 8th, and headed to our hotel, the Marriott New Orleans. It's literally a block from Bourbon Street, so that night we were able to take a stroll down there. I ate some red rice and beans, some jambalaya, and some sausage and of course had a classic Hurricane to drink. We sat up on one of the many balconies and looked down at the people in the streets with ... read more

Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update at last. I am not in New Orleans now in fact I left there a week maybe 2 ago but I have been so busy with travelling, talking to people, going out, boozing, walking, buying, sleeping, hiking, shooting, getting driven round etc that I have not had time to update this thing. Add to that, each blog takes roughly 2 hours to do what with typing the entry, loading the pics, sorting them and checking corrections - it takes a lot out of my time to do and I can't do it on the pay internet machines coz it would cost too much and they don't work anyway!! I am on someonme's personal computer and as it takes soo long and I think they don't want me on here for ages, and I gotta ... read more

So my brother & I turned 26!!! NO!! It sounds SO old! I don't like it at all! I feel like I should be 22. You're only as young as you feel, right? I'll just keep telling myself that! No, it's cool, I love where God has put me & what he's doing in my life right now. So, my mom treated my brother & I to New Orleans for our 26th bday. My Aunt Pam joined us. I had never been before so it was really cool. We had a bit of a surprise. A couple days before leaving, we found it out it was the annual 'Southern Decadence' Labor Day weekend!! The weekend we would be there. Of course, out of ALL the weekends to go during this huge, international event. Go figure. I ... read more

Hey from the Big Easy otherwise Known as New Orleans, after leaving our crime spree of mississippi, we headed of our next state of Louisana, first stop was a swamp tour to see the alligators, the swamp where we did this was badly ravaged by hurricane Katrina and while some have rebuilt their swamp shacks some have just be left to rot, it was here that the hurricane actually hit and while the clean up is immense, after 2 years there is still more to be done. it started to hit me here how much damage was caused and how life must of changed. Our swamp guide reminded me of the nutty professor in every way and was great with his stories and had the most bizarre accent which all he could say was the accent ... read more

I had to return to my favorite vacation destination. I hadn't seen Monique for almost a year and a half so it was definitely time for a visit. Because this was my fourth visit to New Orleans, we did a lot of hanging out just catching up. We did get to my favorite po'boy shop for a crab cake po'boy though! Monique and I sang karoke at Razoos in the afternoon and then headed to the casino at night to watch the Saints game. After the game, we partied with Moni's mom and her friend at a little dive bar in Metaire. Friday, Moni and I got makeovers and went to dinner at Drago's. Chargrilled oysters are amazingly good. We went to Harrah's after dinner for some more partying! Saturday, we went to Baton Rouge to ... read more

Would you believe that our bus into New Orleans actually arrived early - this is a definite first for Greyhound buses since we arrived! Our hostel was just one block from one of the main streets into town so good for location but did seem to be home to some people who live there permanently and were slightly weird but quite friendly. Let's not even mention the state of the kitchen though which meant our good intentions to stay in and cook failed. Oh well, more time to go out and enjoy the New Orleans nightlife! We didn't realise that we would be here on the 2nd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina which meant New Orleans has been all over the news for the past week and the President was in town at the same time we ... read more

We arrived in New Orleans at 2:00pm. We drove through the narrow streets in search of our hotel. Once we found it, we pulled into the parking garage and tried to check in. Our room wasn’t ready yet, so we checked our bags and left to make our way around the French Quarter. It was everything I had imagined it to be. I love the brick buildings, the elaborate décor on the balconies…you could even hear some Zydeco music in the distance. Our first stop was to Café Beignet for some tasty snacks. We shared an iced lemonade and Jared had a pecan tart and some tabasco flavored potato chips. I had a pecan turtle that was just made! We did some window shopping…the art galleries are plentiful down there. The one thing I noticed was ... read more

Yes, it is finally here, the much anticipated finale to this edition of my travel blog. I realize it has been quite a while since I updated, blame it on lack of internet, then lack of website(which crashed, if anyone has copies of my blogs, could you send them to me?) and finally overabundance of work. This may be better though, now that I've had a week to digest. England was wonderful, it was the perfect end to my trip. I was staying in the Northhampton area, which is in the middle of the country, with my good friends Claire and Tom who I met this year in New Orleans. Claire's family has a wonderful old farmhouse out in the country, it was exactly where I needed to be after spending 7 weeks running around. I ... read more
