Boy, do I feel stupid. Disregard my rant about the right combination switch. At least until it's warranted. Tiim and I went out to see if the bike would start this morning. I turned the key and hit the starter button and, of course, nothing happened. I turned the key off and on and pushed the button and nothing happened. "Where's your neutral light?" Tim inquired. Doh! It was parked on a slight incline and I'd left it in gear. It won't start with the clutch engaged and the transmission in gear. I put it into neutral, pushed the button and it started. Beware of feebs on bikes. Oddly enough, the expression "FINE-C" popped into my head while I was in the shower about an hour ago. That's the Motorcycle Safety Foundation key to starting a ... read more

Ozawkie and Topeka, Kansas Council Grove, Kansas Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Fort Larned, Kansas Garden City and the Sunnyland B&B Sandsage National Wildlife Preserve Sat June 7 to Mon June 9 After our wonderful visit outside of Baldwin City, we drove north through Oscaloosa and across Lake Perry to Ozawkie to see my Uncle Dennis’ place that he built with his wife Jolayne. She was very welcoming, and gave us the full tour of the office building, home and still-under-construction new addition. We also met the friendly young couple who have taken over the law practice and their delightful toddler. My Uncle, of course, is on the coast of Maryland, prepping his 30 ft sailboat for a non-stop round-the-world sail that has been a dream of his and upon which he may now embark, since he ... read more

May 14: We worked 8-5. Staples turned 18 years old and the store bought cake for everyone to celebrate. After work the 6 of us went to eat dinner at El Charro Mexican Resaurant. It wasn't bad, but I agree with Jana when she said, "I wouldn't make a special trip to come back." Gary, our Staples project manager, was supposed to meet us there, but Jana accidentally gave him the wrong directions and he didn't find it. He ate somewhere else that night. After we ate I drove around to get a feel for the town. It's way too small for me although it has everything someone could need: plenty of shopping, fast food, convenience stores, churches, libraries, a football field-size pool, nice roads and neighborhoods, etc. Just a small town. Then I went back ... read more

Staples Romodel -- Garden City, KS -- May 13, 2004 Hey Everyone! Yesterday I made it to Garden City without seeing any of the tornadoes that hit Central Kansas. In fact, I had mostly clear skies for the whole 4 hour drive from Wichita. When I got here I realized Garden City isn't on the Sprint network yet so I went to the nearest library (like anything is far here) and e-mailed my friends and my parents with my hotel info and asked them to call me. I might have to get a phone card. This morning we all met for breakfast at the hotel restaurant: Susy Q from Omaha, Suzanne, Nicki, and Chris from Kansas City, and Jana and me from Wichita. I hadn't met Chris or Nicki before. They seem nice. The restaurant took ... read more
