Bradford, PA - Olean, NY Wednesday June 2 Prism flew Jana and me from Wichita, KS to Buffalo, NY. There we met Eva and Debbie from Wisconsin and the 4 of us got our rental car and drove through NY to our hotel Bradford, PA. Bradford is in the northwestern part of Pennsylvania and has a population of about 9000. It is the home of the Zippo lighter and Penn moter oil. The area is lush with green trees. I could not believe all the dense, deep, dark forests in that area. If anything was to be built, trees had to be cleared from the land first. Houses set half in and half out of forests like Aunt Lizzie’s house in Beverly Lewis’s Amish novels. It was beautiful. When we got to out hotel it was ... read more

Saturday June 6th we got off work early and Eva had to go to the Lucy and Desi Museum in Jamestown, NY where Lucy grew up. It was about an hour away from Olean so Eva, Debbie, Jana, Mike W, and I drove there and paid the $5 admission and went in. It was smaller than I'd imagined, but it had a good representation of her life. There were large panels all around the room that chronicled her and Desi's lives from the time they were born until they died. In the middle of the room there were cases that showed off some of her clothing and accessories. At the back of the room was a projector and chairs to sit in and watch movies about them and with them in them. The front had a ... read more

Hi Everyone Yesterday three of my co-workers and I drove to Niagara Falls and had a very good time. We drove to the Canadian side and parked and got out and walked to the Falls. They are very beautiful, but I always imagined them to be taller. We all took alot of pictures there. Then we walked up to the tourist area with the casinos, tourist shops, and silly museums and shows. You can buy things with USD but you get Canadian money back and they don't give you much as they should at alot of places. But we really didn't care. We wanted to have a good time and none us spent that much anyway. We ate on the patio at Kelsey's at Clifton Hill, while being serenaded by a young man playing piano and ... read more

Hi Everyone,   Guess what! They changed my Staples remodel destination again. First it was supposed to be New Jersey or Pennsylvania, then it was supposed to be Kernersville, NC. Now I think I actually know where I'm going because I have a flight # and hotel reservation. I'm staying in Bradford, PA and working about a half hour away in Olean, NY. Olean is in the south western part of New York and not anywhere near The City. I do want to do some sight-seeing on our only day off  on Sunday. The closest interesting things are Buffalo and Jamestown, NY and Niagara Falls and they,re about 2 and a half hours away.   We fly out of Wichita on Wed June 2 and flying into Buffalo, NY later that night. That will be cool.   :)   Will tell you more when I ... read more

At The Foot of the Mountains Saturday May 22, Kelly met me in Garden City at my hotel about 8am and helped me pack my car and his for our trip to Colorado. We didn't really know where we were going, but it would be either Colorado Springs or Denver and their surrounding areas. I checked out and we headed to Scott City where we dropped off my car at his dad's house for the few days we would be gone. They were getting their house sided and his step mom was very nervous because already the siders had made 2 mistakes. Anyway we got what we needed in the car and headed west. We didn't have to decide which direction to go until we got to Kit Carson. Arriving at the point of decision, we ... read more

May 14: We worked 8-5. Staples turned 18 years old and the store bought cake for everyone to celebrate. After work the 6 of us went to eat dinner at El Charro Mexican Resaurant. It wasn't bad, but I agree with Jana when she said, "I wouldn't make a special trip to come back." Gary, our Staples project manager, was supposed to meet us there, but Jana accidentally gave him the wrong directions and he didn't find it. He ate somewhere else that night. After we ate I drove around to get a feel for the town. It's way too small for me although it has everything someone could need: plenty of shopping, fast food, convenience stores, churches, libraries, a football field-size pool, nice roads and neighborhoods, etc. Just a small town. Then I went back ... read more

Garden City, KS -- Staples Remodel -- May 19, 2004 I had a happy surprise yesterday. Kelly drove from Wichita to Garden City, KS where I'm working this week. He had the day off and he loves to travel in his new car. Three weeks ago he bought a 2004 Hundai Elantra. It's a beautiful marroon color and has an awesome stereo. He had to talked to his dad and step-mom who live in Scott City, KS (about a half-hour from Garden City) and told them that he wanted them to meet me. He wanted us to go to Scott City for dinner, but they didn't have any nice restaurants so they decided to come here. We ate at Applebees. When we got there he introduced me to John and Cheryl Kern. We got to know ... read more

May 16, 2004 Road Trip -- Colorado Springs, CO Suzanne, Nikki, and I loaded the van about 8:45 am and headed out west toward Colorado Springs. Let me tell you it was a ROAD TRIP! We were on the road 5 hours there and 5 hours back! We only got to spend 3 hours actually in Colorado Springs, but it was better than spending the day in the hotel room. We passed though several very small towns on the way there. Stopping in Kit Carson to get gas at a convenience store that had a neat little shop in it where you could buy outdoorsy house decorations. They were very expensive. I got my post cards there. Then it as on the road again. Arriving in CO Springs we were hungry and didn't want to spend ... read more

Staples Romodel -- Garden City, KS -- May 13, 2004 Hey Everyone! Yesterday I made it to Garden City without seeing any of the tornadoes that hit Central Kansas. In fact, I had mostly clear skies for the whole 4 hour drive from Wichita. When I got here I realized Garden City isn't on the Sprint network yet so I went to the nearest library (like anything is far here) and e-mailed my friends and my parents with my hotel info and asked them to call me. I might have to get a phone card. This morning we all met for breakfast at the hotel restaurant: Susy Q from Omaha, Suzanne, Nicki, and Chris from Kansas City, and Jana and me from Wichita. I hadn't met Chris or Nicki before. They seem nice. The restaurant took ... read more
