Downtown Chicago may surprise you as much as it did us as it is an architectural wonder on one of our five Great Lakes. The confluence of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River ensures this world class city as an important cargo route. These waterways are surrounded by modern skyscrapers, well planned boardwalks and parks which lend this city to be extremely attractive and walkable. The public transportation makes it easy to visit from many of the suburbs. Nearby Union Station has amazing architecture, excellent signage as well several shops, restaurants, and vending machines. Chicago is known as “The Windy City” and many think it is due to the wicked cold winds coming off Lake Michigan…. There are some summer days that feel cold, but winter can be unbearable with the changing microclimates. In reality --it ... read more

From StarsInsider, and me, of course. In Europe, Asia, or anywhere else in the world with advanced railroad systems, you can easily hop on a train that'll take you from one major city to the next. However, those who wish to travel to further destinations will have to undergo train rides that will last for hours. Naturally, many of us will get bored along the way, because we don't think there's anything to do on a train. But that couldn't be further from the truth! In this article, we'll show you the true joys of being on a train compared to other means of transportation. I have done my share of rail travel: the longest was the Trans-Siberian Railway across Russia, a total of 5772 miles (9289 km), over eight time zones, and built by over ... read more

... read more

Hier, je suis allée à un show de Broadway in Chicago. Car oui, il y a une telle chose! Je suis allée voir MJ The Musical. Aujourd'hui dimanche, c'était le "Sundays on State".

Puisque je n'ai eu grand temps pour aller à l'épicerie depuis mon arrivée, j'ai déjeuné dans ... read more

So, I have been asked to do a travel blog on my recent holiday to America. So here it is! The 1stblog is for the Illinois section of Route 66 between from Chicago, Illinois to St Louis, Missouri. October 12th 2022 Beginning of the Holiday! We had an afternoon flight that got us into Chicago at around 6.30pm. After we had got through security, collected our bags, got the hire car and arrived at the hotel – it was gone 8pm. We were both tired and hungry so once we got checked in and put the luggage in the room, we headed out to find something to eat. We did a quick search using the free Wi-Fi (thankfully all our hotels had free Wi-Fi) and we found that many places closed at 9pm or 10pm. So, ... read more

Well, after almost three years of a pause on travel to prevent the spread of the covid virus and not be complicit in the increasing death toll, we finally took a Canadian family vacation in July to visit Montreal Toronto and Ottawa. I will catch up on that blog before the end of the year. This blog is for my first trip out of the country in three years to the USA for a work conference. I left on November 1 so that I could enjoy Halloween with Riley the night before. I left at 5am to Uber to the YVR airport and had a direct flight to Chicago. Unfortunately, it was a newly purchased refurbished plane for Air Canada Jazz with no wifi or entertainment system. Fortunately, I had books and music to keep me ... read more

With so many people and the closure by the police of bridges Mike was having problems getting a good signal spot, we saw the boats arrive and the river starting to turn green. So glad Mike preserved and managed to find another spot where we had great views of this phenomenal event. Turning the Chicago River green for St. Patrick's Day first began in 1962. As St. Patrick’s Day grew in popularity around America, each city came up with its own way of celebrating. Starting in 1962, the city of Chicago dyed its eponymous river green. The inspiration for the stunt came from pollution-control workers, who used various chemical dyes to trace illegal sewage discharges. The first year, the city dumped 100 pounds of dye into the river, which left it green for an entire week. ... read more

About this tour https://www.heygo.com/tourswithmike Chicago has at least 77 neighborhoods (it depends on who you ask), each with its own histories, evolutions, landmarks, and unique characteristics. The "Chicago's Neighborhoods" series reveals these stories and highlights the diversity of this wonderful city. The Printers Row area has had many lives: a prolific vice district, a bustling publishing center, a zone of urban decay, and a revitalized residential neighborhood. Throughout all these incarnations, it has always been one-of-a-kind. Despite being next to Chicago's Loop, the city's central business district, many people do not know much about this landmark area filled with unique features, beautiful lofts, and wonderful stories. This tour is a great opportunity to discover what makes Printers Row so special. By the late 1... read more
