Living the lives of retirees and snowbirds, we have so many opportunities to enjoy ourselves and have some great fun times! We hope you can enjoy some of these festive occasions along with us. Remember: the more the merrier! Halloween at Tropical Palms was almost a week long in celebration. YAHOO! Our activity director, Janet, and her assistant, Cindy, have really been working hard to make sure there are plenty of things to do here at the park to keep everyone happy. They are succeeding! They organized a Halloween golf cart parade…..actually two of them….but we only participated in the first one. We decorated our golf cart with lights, pumpkins and skeletons. Cory was very scary in his Skelton mask (just in case you didn’t recognize him). Dave was brave and unafraid to jump on board ... read more

Nearly 3 months ago, I dropped my husband Don off at a parking lot near the Seattle Airport with his friends. A quick peck kiss, a hug, and he jumped in the car and just like that he was gone and I was on my own. He has been very much involved and participating in his own journey as I have been in mine. Finally after all this time, I get to see him. With a few fibs, Google Map stocking, hours of driving, help from friends (thanks Ethan & Amanda), I drove up to Don while he was peddling down the road. I am not good at lying, so he knew something was up, but seeing me in person was certainly a surprise! He is skinny, sun bleached shaggy hair, but still my guy and ... read more

For the past few years as my traveling experiences were compiling, I purposely avoided Florida. Why? I knew years ago that we were going to be here for a long period of time (1 month). So far I have only experienced the Jacksonville area near my camp and I am so impressed. This is how winters should be spent! I am camped out at Pelican Roost Campground on the Jacksonville Navy Base. My tent door is facing the ocean, I am surrounded by palm trees with brown pelicans flying overhead, a nice gentle breeze keeps me comfortable in these mid 80 temperatures. Awwwwww. There is so much to see locally, within walking distance. It wasn't until my second day I finally took a ferry from Mayport over the St. John's River. On my list to visit ... read more

Hooray! We are still here to tell you all about it! It was an adventure we didn’t plan to take nor do we want to take it again. Hurricane IAN came right up through where we live here in Florida: Kissimmee, Osceola County. It was UGLY! But let’s talk about The Good stuff first. Cory and I have been hitting some of our old haunts down here. First on our list was Bar Harbor. They had a special on lobsters so we took full advantage of that…..at least I did. I ate two lobsters there and brought two home with us. Oh, yummers! Cory was satisfied with with his fried shrimp dinner. Nothing tops lobster in my book! I’m first at the table when lobster is being served. I can be a little pushy sometimes…..at least ... read more

Yes, we have! Our landing date here at Tropical Palms was Saturday, September 10th. Exactly as planned. Lulu was as excited as Cory and myself. She could finally change her constant position of staying on our dash while performing her job as navigator. She was our RV’s figurehead….just like on the bow of a ship. She did sit next to Cory when he snacked. She didn’t suffer. Arrival is always such a great feeling of joy and relief. Hooray! We are here to stay….for nine months. Start unpacking. We have to start planning our adventures for this season. Not surprising……it is HOT here! OMG, is it ever! We had just become comfortable with the cooler temperatures back home. Zowweee. It is like living on top of a volcano. Only thing missing is the lava. I took ... read more

We drive four hours from St Augustine to Fort Lauderdale. We stopped for a quick bite on the way to Fort Lauderdale. Our hotel is a Marriott AC hotel. I had low expectations since AC is a cheaper Marriott but I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel has a pool with a bar on the third floor. Our room is large with a huge wrap around balcony and two sliding glass doors. Christopher and Brad return our rental car and meet Christie and Laura at the airport. They Uber back to hotel because we do not need a rental car in Fort Lauderdale. Dinner is at a Mexican restaurant a short walk from our hotel. After dinner the kids play in the ocean while we relax on our balcony. Christie is taking four classes and has a ... read more

St Augustine is our destination today. It is a three hour drive from Savannah. We had rain off and on during our drive. Thank you Christopher and Brad for driving during this trip. We check into our hotel located in the historic district then head out for a late lunch/early dinner. The Floridian in the historic district is our restaurant of choice. I got a fried green tomato, bacon, lettuce and goat cheese sandwich. It was so good, I love the southern cooking. After lunch we went to the St Augustine Distillery. We took the free self guided tour which included tastes of an old fashion, a mule and a tiki drink. The distillery sells the liquor and mixes. If I was local I would buy the mixes. We returned our rental car back to our ... read more

On our way home we had to stop off at our tried-and-true campground in Orlando, FL, Bill Fredrick. This is our go to camping spot since it is only $20/night right in Orlando. We stopped off at Nates favorite place to eat, Del Taco, did a little thrift shopping, and started to pack up to head home.... read more

So, we generally do not book a head on camping and today is an example of why. We booked ahead, had a long 7-hour drive pulling a travel trailer, got caught in traffic delay, had a tire blow on the interstate, had difficulty fitting into a spot for gas since people in cars just cut in front of where you are heading leaving you to get back on the interstate and go up another exit, and Friday rush hour traffic was up to par. We arrived at 8:30, I worked, Daisy made dinner, and then I tried to go to bed but I have a cold and laying down and sleeping was an issue. So, we slept in a bit and took it easy. We went to a local Goodwill, Walmart, and picked up pizza. After ... read more

Orlando 2019 This was supposed to be a big family trip with my boyfriend's family - 6 adults and 2 kids. Unfortunately, everyone else cancelled the trip as my mother in law had been diagnosed with cancer and would not be able to travel due to treatments and insurance not covering her. We were asked to join them on the trip after they had already booked the holiday - so luckily we had booked our own flights/ hotel and car hire separately from them. As usual, I was overly excited about the trip. My first long haul flight and my first time to America. I was already making lists and making sure that I had everything I needed. My bag was already packed months before hand - but I kept checking and changing the contents. I ... read more
