Banana Spider
Non poisonous, but am told their bite can be painful, the banana spider is common in Florida. They are huge! Nearly 3 months ago, I dropped my husband Don off at a parking lot near the Seattle Airport with his friends. A quick peck kiss, a hug, and he jumped in the car and just like that he was gone and I was on my own. He has been very much involved and participating in his own journey as I have been in mine. Finally after all this time, I get to see him. With a few fibs, Google Map stocking, hours of driving, help from friends (thanks Ethan & Amanda), I drove up to Don while he was peddling down the road. I am not good at lying, so he knew something was up, but seeing me in person was certainly a surprise! He is skinny, sun bleached shaggy hair, but still my guy and I fell into his arms.
I took his paniers to alleviate some of the weight, then set off to find James. I was surprised at how fast they are on the bicycles. I couldn't find James until he was stopped at a coffee shop. With the back end of my car full of their paniers (BTW, paniers are the bags bicyclist hang off of

On the Southwest corner of Georgia, we camped on this lake therefore adding another state to Don and James checklist. racks on bikes. That is how they stow everything they need on the trip.), I took off for Pensacola where Don's Uncle Dale and his wife Lynn live with their son Justin. I stopped off at an Aircraft Pavilion in Mobile Alabama to tour the USS Drum Submarine and the USS Alabama (BB-60) retired battleship. I was able to walk through, touch everything, on both. Incredible stop!
We then spent one night at Ethan and Amanda's in DeFuniak Springs, FL. They just moved in a month ago from Oregon. After a few days of eating like Kings and a Queen, and sleeping indoors on beds it was time to give up the luxurious living (for me anyhow) and get back to camping. Amanda suggested I visit Henderson Beach in Destin FL so I did. It was incredible. The most whitest softest sand and clearest ocean water I have ever seen in my life! I put on a swimsuit, laid out my towel and basked in the glorious sunny Florida sunshine.
With many pit stops at local parks, we all met up at Cotton Landing campground. A free site I found on the NW Florida Water District website. Users
Henderson Beach, Destin, Florida
Most visitors are gone, so the beaches were wide open. Clear, warm water, and soft, white sand to run my toes through. must register for a permit but it is free. We had the whole area to ourselves. Don and James worked feverishly to get a campfire going, but due to the humidity it was a struggle to keep going. James opted for a dip in the river to wash up while Don used my solar shower option. I was stocked up on water to refill their water bottles the following day so all needs were met. I had not slept well for the past few nights so back in my car, in my bed, I slept amazingly. One more night at a paid campground, then it was time for me to part ways. They guys had a good travel plan made up and I just didn't work in to it. I decided to head to Tampa!
