1/29/07 The drive to Clearwater Beach was pretty cool. To get to Clearwater Beach you drive through Tampa. To me it looked like a City in California. Palm Trees lining all the roads and water everywhere. It was great. Made it to the Hostel around 5:30 and checked in. I hurriedly went to the Beach to see the sunset. The sunset was pretty cool. I went out and had a couple beers and went to bed around 11:00. 1/30/07 Got up pretty early and worked on the Travelblog for several hours. There were a lot of people cooking at this Hostel and several extended stayers living there. Like all the other Hostels everybody was very nice. Around 10:00 decided to bike to Honeymoon Island. There are lots of great bike paths in this area. Pinellas Trail ... read more

The Method is one of traveling. "The title sounds familiar", you think? Its a book by the great philosopher Rene Descartes. His most famous expression is "Cogito ergo sum", French for, as my boy Pat knows, "I Think Therefore I am". A bold statement in the 1600s is still a imposing statement in the 21 century. Basically, what I'm getting at is that another trip has reared its beautiful head. Im off to Eastern Europe. When i mentioned this to fellow Americans they did not exactly sure where this area is located even though we were at war with this area only 7 yars ago! Damn American school system budget cuts, there goes geography! Anyways, Im more excited than my more recent trip to Egypt. This area is just now coming out of the dark ages ... read more

Carl and I checked with US Social Security to see if I can get benefits at age 62. They will send a letter here in four weeks. The key question is whether I worked for ten years in USA. I did work but my record was patchy. Watch this space. For the "Southern Cross and Boomerang" I feel like Don Quijote and you my readers will be my cyber Sancho Panzas. Those who stick with me - even laugh at me. Those who help me in this quest. Tilting at the widmills of inertia and indifference, while the future calls out for champions dreamers seers What better lance than beauty? A design as beguiling as the Mona Lisa(to an Australian). Even monarchists are enchanted. So what is my horses name?... read more

This an exciting evening for me. The offer on a timeshare in the Clearwater Beach Area has just been accepted. This isn't any ordinary cramped motel type unit with a kitchenette but a complete cottage with two bedrooms and two baths. The nicest part are the surroundings: Lots of lawn, hiking trails, two tennis courts, a swimmimg pool and a 580 foot dock that juts out into the water. It will be fun spending Thanksgiving with the temperature in the 80's. Actually November is off season and most of the tourists have left so it isn't too croded. We have stayed here before so we know the area and what it has to offer. There is a free beach and park only 10 minutes away and Clearwater is about 20 minutes away. This is the part of ... read more

Well its a few days late but last weekend my brother, Keith and I made a short trip to Fort Desoto, down in south St. Pete. It was a good trip, hot and humid but good other than sleeping in the heat. The park is really cool, campsites right on the water and the beach is less than a mile down the road. Lots of trails for running, biking and skating etc.... but overall my favorite park is the lack of development in the park lots of nature areas and wildlife around I recomemned anyone to visit, Ill post a few pics aif I can figure it out, Also only about 5 days until I leave for Japan.... Also I know these photos are awesome and yes I will do your wedding... read more

We left the dock around 0600, up the ICW. Came into Tampa Bay, and it was so cold, we took turns helming for 30 min shifts. Al bundled, looked like we were in Alaska, but darn wind was blowing at 30 knots steady, 6 foot seas, what an experience. We crossed to the Skyway channel by Maximo Point. Kept heading North on the ICW until Clearwater Beach Municipal Marina. We bunked in here, no heater, we did have sleeping bags. We shook from the cold all night. ... read more
