The one about the wonderful people I have enjoyed for the past 2 weeks My loyal readers know how much I love writing about the funny things people do. This portion of the trip had me doing a lot of people watching. I will try to protect them as much as possible. Some who read will know who I am writing about, but many of you will not. I do not intend to embarrass anyone or hurt feelings. My hope is we will all get to laugh at ourselves. The Casino. I asked at the weekly social coffee if anyone wanted to go to the casino in Tampa, I was buying lunch, and “N” and I made plans. She is from Iowa, and a new owner at Florilow. She drives a bad ass red pickup truck. ... read more

The one with the need to catch up Been a long time, right? Where to begin, where to begin. I will go back and look at my pictures and Facebook check ins and share the great memories with you. Breaking camp at Thousand Trails Clermont is always tough. Sad to say goodbye to good friends, and doubly sad this year because it will be my last visit there in my RV. I did check out the cost of renting a permanent structure in 2021 and that will be cheaper than all I spent on my RV for a year. And some of them are dog friendly, if that should happen. The drive to Florilow Oaks is an easy one, over the river and thru the woods past cattle farms and “cement mines and factories.” My loyal ... read more

A very lazy week here at Florilow Oaks. Just what the old body wanted and needed. The week was filled with crocheting, riding my bike, sweeping inside and out, talking with friends, and bingeing on The Walking Dead. (Now midway thru Season 4). Florilow Oaks is a campground started many years ago by members of Loners on Wheels, my camping club. There are some permanent structures (Park Models, or travel trailers that have been permanently mounted on platforms) and many sites for transient like me. Many are shareholders in the campground and lie here either full or part time. There are mostly single men and women here, but over the years, the amount of transient couples has increased. My site is ‘along the fence’. Now, this is a good place and a bad place to be. ... read more

Hi. My ride to Southern Palms RV Resort from Blue Spring was uneventful. I never tire of driving the back roads of the south. The trees are so drippy with Spanish moss and I like looking at the horse and cattle farms here in Florida. Many small towns consist of just a Dollar General, and a Baptist Church or Grange hall. Speed limits go down to 35 frequently, and I comply. There are beautiful mansions with poverty-stricken trailers right next door. I have been to Southern Palms a few times before and it’s a lovely resort with 3 pools, large main rec hall, and a shuffleboard court area suitable for major competitions! It is almost 1000 sites, but spread out into 3 distinct areas. Our MidLow group was in the Palms area, kind of across the ... read more

The one about chillaxin for a week with fun active stuff thrown in The ride from Umatilla to Bushnell is through the central Florida doldrums. Cattle farm next to vacant pasture filled with gigantic ant mounds, next to orange grove, next to horse farm. There are beautiful ranches next to shacks. I love travelling the backroads of Florida; I never tire of its monotony and stark beauty. It’s kind of like driving through the Carolina low country for me, very soothing. I do not have to pay attention to the roads too much, no hills, no curves, few stop lights, few towns. It’s relaxing. It’s chillaxin. After a stop at Publix, then Wal-Mart, then gasoline ($1.819 but now down to $1.769) I arrived at Florilow Oaks. It is a campground that was started by some Loners ... read more

Tuesday January 14, 2013 Florilow Oaks, Bushnell, FL The One About The Cat Note to start: Before I went to bed last night, I looked out all my windows, just to see what was going on. I saw a large cat slinking about between the rigs, and thought nothing about it. I slept really good until 7:30! I took Winston for a long walk, and met up with Judy C, friend from the LOW chapter in PA/NJ who lives here in the winter. In the summer she lives in south Jersey. She has lost an amazing amount of weight, and I give her credit. She just got into size 10 jeans, and she looks great from the back! Congratulations, Judy!! She told me about Monday being continental breakfast day; I put Winston in the rig, and ... read more

Sunday January 13, 2013 St. Cloud FL to Florilow Oaks, Bushnell, FL Sad to say goodbye to some old and some new friends, but I plan on spending time with the MidLows again at their February campout. BUT, not sad to leave this campground with the black muddy sand. It is everywhere in my rig. Winston’s feet are black, his bed is black, and so are my throw rugs and linoleum floor. Yuck. We were on the road by 10:30 or so, maybe 11, a messy dirty unhook, then dump the holding tanks, and on the road, with a quick stop at the brand new Publix right down the road for some OJ. Over the River and thru the woods, 20 miles across central FL on State Route 192, my most very unfavoritist road. Stop light ... read more

Sunday January 15, 2012 Tampa RV Rally to Webster, FL Last night’s entertainment was excellent. Ron and Kay Rivoli are a musical RV duo who travel across the country performing at Rallys, RVs being one type. From their web site, it looks like they have also done work for Sarah Palin. Uh huh. Kay writes the words to the songs, many of which are new words to familiar melodies, (such as Tom Jones’ Delilah) but she also writes the melody as well for other songs. Ron sings, plays the guitar and tells very funny ‘on the road’ stories. There most popular song is “Press One for English” which I suggest you all watch thru this youtube link. Bet you will laugh your butts off. If for some reason the link doesn’t work, search youtube for PRESS ... read more

Wednesday January 11, 2012 Bushnell, FL to Tampa, FL Happy 29th Birthday, Kristine. Seems like just yesterday…..When did you get so old? Happy 90th Birthday, stepmom, Shirley. I hope you have 90 more and I hope I live to see it! Sorry I cannot be with you for your special birthday dinner. Why oh why did it have to rain today? It hasn’t rained decently in this part of Florida in a very long time. Why did it have to rain today? I set my alarm for 6, the first morning I actually was sleeping when it went off. It was pitch black. I took Winston for a quick walk, and then the rain started. I’ve said it before, I will say it again. I hate unhooking in the rain. I had packed most of my ... read more

Last day in Bushnell, FL JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW. THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE GETTING AN EMAIL FROM ME AND ARE ON FACEBOOK, YOU WILL STOP GETTING AN EMAIL AFTER THIS ONE. PLEASE LOOK ON FACEBOOK FOR MY BLOG, I POST A LINK EACH DAY. A lazy day for me, but a busy day for Judy B. She was up and out early and gone for hours. I tried to do my laundry, but kept getting screwed out of the machines, each time I went back someone had just beaten me to them. 4 machines, only 3 work. 4 dryers as well. The laundry room smells like propane and sauerkraut, not a place I like to hang around, so I made the multiple walks and finally got my loads separated and washing. Another one ... read more
