We headed north today to Denver. On the way we passed Castle Rock and saw a freight train along the way. Our friends, The Reilly's, were kind enough to have us over and the boys swam in their pool and enjoyed their hot tub. We all went to the Colorado Rockies game and met up with Nan and her sons - its been a long time since we've seen everyone and it was great to catch up and enjoy the game together.... read more

Geo: 39.74, -104.992 I decided to go ahead and visit the other plus size store. It was in the suburb of Arvada which is north of Denver. The strip mall had a teacher store. I was a good girl and didn't spend more than $30. I found some teacher math books to help my students learn their basic addtion and subtraction skills better. I browsed the plus size store, but they didn't have anything I liked. I called home to let them know that I was still alive and hadn't drowned on the river. I headed back to the hotel and ate in the little cantina. I finished up the night by blogging, watching some tv, and finishing a book.... read more

Geo: 39.74, -104.992The rest of the trip was uneventful. I called the Master Rafter Rafting Company in Idaho Springs, CO to schedule a noon rafting trip for Wednesday. I then called and got my hotel room just north of the I-70/I-25 interchange. The Comfort Inn was very nice. After settling in the cat, I took a swim in the heated outdoor pool, ordered a pizza, and blogged for a short time while watching "The Devil Wears Prada" on TV. Magge likes the room since we are on the ground floor and she can look out the sliding door/window from just laying on the floor.... read more

I've now entered a phase in my pre-journey that requires me to unload the burden of my possessions. I'm doing this for 2 reasons: 1 is to use the money I gain from the sale of my things on my trip and 2 is to avoid returning to a storage unit full of the defining artifacts of my pre-ATW adventure. This trip is about discovery, change and growth and the thought of all of my insignificant but prolific belongings weighs me down in a physical way. It sits on my chest and leans its elbows into my collarbone, sporting a cheshire cat grin and a sadistic sense of humor. The weight of "stuff" is substantial. The weight is substantial but waning. The more stuff I sell or donate or throw away, the lighter I feel. The ... read more

Denver is our new former home. Off we go to the airport. Jonny drove us and snapped this awesome pic of the Evil Demon Airport Mustang to help send us off. The Evil Killer Demon mustang killed its maker and shoots red death lasers from its eyes. Evil DIA Horse Spooky Mustang... read more

Went to Coors Field to watch some baseball - the Rockies versus the Padres. I don’t follow baseball that closely back home. To be honest I’d be lucky if I’ve actually watched an entire game from start to finish. We grabbed a pre-game pint and watched a couple minutes of the World Cup final - go Espana - before heading into the stadium. Due to the popularity of the home team and their recent success, we were only able to get tickets in the upper deck. I was expecting plenty of sunshine and a limited supply of air. Our seats ended up being quite good and nowhere near the nose bleed category. The game was pretty close with the home team leading up until a bases-loaded throwing error changed the game in San Diego’s favour - ... read more

Arrived at San Francisco airport a couple hours early since I was unsure as to how fast the train trip from Oakland would be. I could have grabbed a cab but the train was a much cheaper option - $10 versus $40+ ... I don't want my booze funds to take a hit. After checking in and making it past security - this time without the obligatory frisking which kind of made feel unwanted - I people watched for the next two hours. Yeah it's creepy but it's free. The flight across to Denver wasn't too bad. My friends Heather and Jon have been very generous and are providing me with a place to stay while in Denver. We will be heading down to Buena Vista for a couple days of camping.... read more

I awoke around 6 am and turned on the tv. I napped on & off until about 10:15, occasionally watching the Argentina v Germany World Cup game. Re-packing my gear was quick and easy, and I was out the door to check out around 10:40. I waited in the lobby for about 30 minutes for Chris Lowe (C.Lowe) and read a few magazines. He showed up with his girlfriend's 2 year old son Nathan (Nate Dog!). Nate Dog was a little shy at first, like most 2 year olds, but MAN! he is a GOOD kid in the car! He was quite still and very quiet during the 1 hour drive from Denver to Ft. Collins in the north. C.Lowe & I have been friends since the winter of 2004-2005 and I've often referred to him ... read more

I've actually spent some time this week researching what it is I want to do in all the amazing places I plan to visit. It has certainly made my impending journey feel more real, and my excitement grows now exponentially. See if this itinerary doesn't make your heart beat a little faster with anticipation (and maybe a little jealousy). New Zealand - * land in wellie and do a few days in and around the city (botanic gardens, gondola, lighthouses, lovely peers teeming with seafood restaurants and pretty birds) * take the ferry to the south island and travel to golden bay for a month-long stay at a yoga retreat * make my way down the island through motueka, nelson, picton, kaikoura, hammer springs, christchurch, lyttelton, oamaru, dunedin, queenstown and lake tekapo while getting my fill ... read more
