Took the bus monday morning Aug 18 to Colorado Springs about an hour and a half's journey- quite normal people on the bus for a greyhound. A woman who was from London helped us get off a the right stop for our motel. It's right by a park called Garden of the Gods which looks like something out of a western movie with orange sandstone rocks and shrubs everywhere. there are loads fo traisl for hiking and you can walk a fair distance - it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere but there are roads through it and all the trails are marked. Our motel is less than 10 mins walk from there. We also have a poolwhich has been much needed the last couple of days, it's not been that hot in ... read more

Day 17 July 20 Casper to Colorado Springs We continued on our journey to Fort Laramie, Wyoming. Having seen a lot of westerns growing up I expected to see a large walled fort. As we were walking up to the fort a German tourist was asking one of the guides dressed in a blue wool military uniform they wore back in the day where were the walls. The guide said that this fort was very peaceful and had no need for walls. Ft. Kearney was the site of many of the battles with the Plains Indians and soldiers rode from Fort Laramie a couple hundred miles to support the soldiers at Ft. Kearny when fighting broke out. Some of the buildings were just ruins but many had been fully restored and gave you a good since ... read more

Day 16 July 19 Bozeman to Casper Bozeman with 38,000 people is the largest city in Montana. Imagine that. Since we entered the US there have been lots of motorcycles everywhere. Wonder if it has something to do with Sturgis and the big motorcycle event they have. I loved driving through Big Sky Country. Everything was so wide open and you could see for miles. Everything looked very green so I imagine they had been receiving a lot of rain. Our first and only stop of the day was in Cody, Wyoming at the Cody Museum. It is divided into five sections, Plains Indians, Weapons, Cody himself, Natural History, and western art. It was all very interesting. They had lots of example of clothing and utensils made by various tribes. I skipped the arsenal but did ... read more

So, here we are...it is our second day in Canon City and we have no idea upon waking what is happening with the RV so we waited with baited breathe to find out whether or not we would be able to make it to Arches National Park. Our experience in the "waiting" area at the RV shop was similar to the way I feel when I am at the doctors office...stressed out. What will the diagnosis be? When will it be fixed? The reality: the fuel pump did not arrive until 10 am some new issues were discovered which meant we would not leave until around 5pm. NO ARCHES NATIONAL PARK....Chris took me for a walk outside because the disappointment, frustration and anger finally caught up with me. I cursed Cruise America up and down. With ... read more

We woke up this morning after spending the night at a rest stop alongside a bunch of truckers. It was noisy with all the trucks running but we were tired. We picked Manitou Springs as a stop at the last minute on our way to Bryce Canyon and boy are we glad we did. We found a great little campground with a running stream behind us. We pulled in around 1pm, hung around camp for a while and then drove up to Garden of the Gods. Even though it was a little cloudy and rainy, it was a great hike and spectacular views into the park. Ben:" My favorite part of the day was when we went to Garden of the Gods and I liked to climb on the rocks." Drew:" I found a log on ... read more

We pulled into Salt Lake City June 4th, late in the evening. Just looking for a place to pass the night, we found a spot in the outskirt residential. Bryant came down and visited us and after some banter, me and Ben rode into town in search of a coffeeshop. After some searching, we found the Salt Lake Coffee Break welcoming and after ordering drinks, proceeded to spend time writing, reading, and observing. We stayed until 130am when we noticed the rainfall. Without much option, we rode back soaking, fighting liquid arrows with our eyelids. We locked the bikes up and proceeded to change into some dry clothes before sleep took us. To curve another plot line into the salt lake escapade, the following morning, we were offered breakfast by Ben Fox, a stranger, yet a ... read more

Andrew: So, this is our visit in the Cave of the Winds. We were pretty excited to be inside the cave, and had we not had to wait so long to get in it would have been a nice way to cool off after our hike. The tour we had decided to take was the "Lantern Tour" where, instead of walking through an electrically lit cave, you walk through a completely un-lit cave guided only by a bucket which held a kerosene lantern. We were warned that the smallest passage in the cave was about 2.5-3 ft tall and about the same in width. That small passageway extended for about 40 feet. However, there was a second passageway about 3.5 feet tall (and just as wide as the first) that was about 140 feet long (that's ... read more

Ryan: So, recap from the end of the last post: We woke up at 5:45 (tough sell in a room with no windows) to walk out to catch the bus. I know, I know, taking a bus is cheating when we're supposed to be hitchhiking around the country, but, we had to reserve our tickets for Cave of the Winds for the lantern tour in advance, so we wanted to make sure we were going to be there on time (especially since they cost us 24 dollars each, which is about 4 days worth of food when you eat like we do). Hitchhiking, turns out, can be a time consuming process, and isn't really a reliable method of getting you somewhere on a schedule. Anyway, we had our day all planned out, we were going to ... read more

Well, I did it. Just went and bought my plane ticket to Delhi today. I can hardly believe it. The trip isn't until September 2008 but I can almost imagine myself there already. If you know me well then you know that a venture like this wasn't even a remote possibility a few years ago (hell, even a few months ago). I'd just like to say thanks to everybody who I love for sticking by me. I want you to know that you're going to be there with me every step of the way. ... read more
