There will be flurry of messages since we are arriving home VERY soon! Do to technical difficulties we have been writing blogs but have been unable to publish them. We awoke in Belvidere, SD and hit the road for what we knew would be a long day of driving. South Dakota is a BIG state!!! We had one last stop in SD and that was the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. I had no idea what the corn palace was and I can quite honestly say that it was a very unique visit. The outside of the corn palace is redone each year do to the birds eating all those luscious kernels. The design of the palace incorporates all corn pieces and parts. This year’s theme, Everyday Heroes…and guess what? Teachers are on it, hurray. The ... read more

From our “fancy” campsite at the gas station in Kellogg, IA we headed for Illinois. We had had enough of IA and needed a change of pace. We had been having some really long days so we decided in the early afternoon that we would stop early today and find a place to just “chill”. You know you are at a breaking point when you are eating lunch at Arby’s…a sure way to send you to the nearest gastroenterologist. We found a gem of a place in Utica, IL. Hickory Hill Campground…it had a nice swimming pool, shaded RV site, cheap laundry and a store that sold the makings for smores’…we were in business and it was only 3:30pm. I even took a NAP! How sweet life is! Everyone got to relax and do something they ... read more

Since the last time I wrote we were playing in the Tetons. We awoke at Flagg Ranch for a day in Yellowstone National Park. I apologize in advance to all of you out there that have been to Yellowstone and LOVED it. I LIKE it. Nick really wanted to see Old Faithful so we decided that we would do a 60 mile loop within the park which would allow us to see about 40 sulfur spewing geysers, waterfalls and painpots. We got to Old Faithful and had to wait only 45 minutes until the next display of thermal activity. We got front row spots for the 2 minute show. It was good and the boys’ were glad to have seen it. We then did a 2 mile walk around the geyser where there were many smaller ... read more

So we left Ogden, UT, almost five days ago and when we did we also said so long to Starbucks! I could write an entire entry on our coffee escapades but let’s suffice it to say that we have been dying for good coffee until today, Saturday, August 9th. Gas station coffee just isn’t cutting it for us coffee snobs! Anyway we left Ogden and headed north on our way to the Grand Tetons. We made one stop along the way at Lava Hot Springs in Idaho. I had been to hot springs before but this one was different. The 4 pools ranged from 104-112 degrees F and were lined with actual rocks. Many springs put in swimming pool like structures but not this one. I cannot tell you how much I needed to sit in ... read more

I am sure some of you have been waiting with baited breathe to find out what has happened over the past few days, thank you for your patience. We have been doing great in our new RV. What a difference shocks can make on driving in windy areas and having breaks has been an extra special treat. There were some added bonuses as well: I have a closet door now so all of my stuff doesn’t fly out when we round corners (we call those noises our golf clubs), the air conditioner doesn’t freeze up and the sink does not leak all over our precious kitchen floor. Things are definitely smoother in our new ride. Since we last wrote we have let nothing stop us: forest fires, bears, salt flats and much more. Our first stop ... read more

Some of you may have been seeing California in the news with quakes and forest fires but you should rest assured if you were worried because we are all fine. We left LA a couple of days prior to the quake and the fires…well, we have decisions to make based on the fires in Yosemite. The last time I wrote we were leaving Carmel and heading to San Francisco. Actually I am not sure right now where I left off in my writing since I am not connected to the internet so I think I will talk about Carmel one more time. Have any of you been to Carmel? Well, what a lovely little seaside city/town. There was definitely a Newburyport feel to the place. We were there on a Sunday as the shops closed and ... read more

Hello everyone...California has been so busy and crazy that my blogging time has been significantly decreased. I am sorry to keep you all waiting with our adventures. I was thinking that there would be more comments on my new investment but maybe you are all too overwhelmed with all of these adventures. The last message I put up was about Vegas and since then we have been off and running. We drove from Vegas to Escondido, CA which is just north of San Diego. We used this as our home base for three nights to make our lives easier. I have to put out there that we are fine and that the RV is safe but what a pain. We had a brake light come on as we headed into Vegas and we did the responsible ... read more

You know the story, what happens in Vegas.....you can rest assured that the college funds are still intact and that we have enough money to get home. We stayed three nights at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club Resort and what a refreshing experience. A one bedroom condo is what we had. Full kitchen, king size bed, great pools and many hot tubs. We did not do a lot. We slept late we ate breakfast by the pool and tried not to burn our bodies to a crisp in the 110 degrees weather. How in the world do people live here? The first night we made our way to New York New York for some food. It was great! It is so weird to see roller coasters inside of buildings. We walked for a bit..finding ourselves overwhelmed ... read more

So, here we are...it is our second day in Canon City and we have no idea upon waking what is happening with the RV so we waited with baited breathe to find out whether or not we would be able to make it to Arches National Park. Our experience in the "waiting" area at the RV shop was similar to the way I feel when I am at the doctors office...stressed out. What will the diagnosis be? When will it be fixed? The reality: the fuel pump did not arrive until 10 am some new issues were discovered which meant we would not leave until around 5pm. NO ARCHES NATIONAL PARK....Chris took me for a walk outside because the disappointment, frustration and anger finally caught up with me. I cursed Cruise America up and down. With ... read more

Hello everyone!!!! I am not even sure where to begin this entry....the last time I wrote we were staying at Gunsmoke and getting out of Dodge, so they say. Well, maybe Dodge City wasn't so bad.... We hit the road on Tuesday morning and headed to somewhere in Colorado. We had an idea where we would stop but we had an unexpected situation occur. For those of you worriers...everyone is healthy, there was no accident involving wild game or pick up trucks:) While driving Tuesday they were a couple of instances where the RV seemed to exhibit signs of illness. Stalling or stepping on the gas with no engine response was disconcerting to us as we were to be headed over the beautiful Colorado Rockies so we stopped and called Cruise America. To make a long ... read more
