Wed. 2 June I will try and keep the blog short, let the pix speak for themselves etc so I can go to sleep and actually get the buffet breakfast tomorrow. This morning I preferred to try and catch up on sleep (blogging all nite again!) and did not get up til 11.15am, showered and went to pay for the room for another night. Although this is almost 40 miles from Yosemite there are reasonably priced places and stuff here to eat etc. Unlike on the way there/back - where gas is $4 a gallon ($3 here) and even a burger costs $10 as I found out coming back tonight around 10pm from my Glacier Point sunset lookout - it took about 2 hours from there to get back here as it is right up at ... read more

Here are a couple of photos from our last day in Yosemite. After writing our blog, we did a short walk to Bridalveil Falls and got drenched, but it really was beautiful. We enjoyed watching the sunset in Yosemite Valley, and have been so spoilt with the good weather. The last 2 pictures are of our campsite with the river flowing alongside.... read more

We left Reno and headed for Lake Tahoe, knowing we only had about a 2 hours drive, we had plenty of time to explore the area (or so we thought......). It did not take us long to leave Nevada and before we knew it we were back in California. Soon we were winding our way up the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it was beautiful and that was before we even got to Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in America and it really was something to see - azure blue surrounded by snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains. We have seen many beautiful things in our travels and this was one more to add to our ever growing list. It almost felt like we were in the Alps, it had that sort of atmosphere. I was ... read more

(Day 756 on the road)My good old French friend Suzanne ("I want it to be top-e notch-e"), who had visited me in New Zealand just a month ago, was worried that Yosemite would be more of the same for me, as I had seen so much nature and so many mountains over the last few months in NZ. But she needn't have worried: Yosemite is an absolutely stunning piece of nature, and even though Suzanne has been there a few times over the last few years (I had been here once when I was 14 but couldn't remember a thing), we were both stunned by the varied scenery. A short flight had taken me from Los Angeles to San Francisco, Suzanne's adopted home town. At Los Angeles airport I had been more than a little annoyed ... read more

Greetings Friends! Remember those awesome sci-fi movies that came out in the 80s? Whether you saw them in the theater (like me) or much later on video or TV, they were stories that captured our imagination. Good versus evil, Darth Vader versus Luke Skywalker ... and Princess Lei as Jabba the Hut's personal slave??? I digress. But then remember a few years went by and George Lucas was all like "Oh yeah, there are more Star Wars movies and they happened BEFORE the ones you have already expereinced"! And you thought finding out "Luke, I am your father!" was a mindblowing. Well in true Star Wars fashion I WWG, have a story that happened before this previous trilogy of blog entries ... I KNOW! It is not my personal blog entry, but it involves me directly ... read more

****Sorry for the delay in updating but thank you for all your requests that we pull our finger out and hurry up**** Well what can I say about Yosemite? It is huge and beautiful and restored my faith in California. I think also the fact I am feeling better now has helped, but you can’t help but love this place. Every few hundred yards you can stop and take loads of amazing shots, so a digital camera is a must! Although the park itself is around 36 miles wide it can take hours to drive through because you keep stopping to look at everything. Anyway intro done and you can probably tell I’m in a better mood so I’ll continue. The drive leaving Flagstaff was a toughie only because it took all the energy we had ... read more

Post Vegas we left for Yosemite National Park via LA. We stayed in a Chinese run motel during this transition period, with Taoist dolls on the JVC ghettoblaster (with twin tape decks to enable high speed dubbing, 3D sound and hyperbase function - all of which didn't work) and dead cockroaches under the bed. Our preffered means of accommodation, as you have already seen, is the tent. Sadly, four poles broke on the old Vango in one windy stay at the Grand Canyon meaning we had to find replacements before we could use it again. Apparently, they don't do replcements in the US (because they would rather you just buy a new tent) - only via an online company who make bespoke poles for dollar. We rang our new friend Tim (a climber we met on ... read more

Hello, Firstly if you ever wondered why I never put the name of the place we're in, in the title . Thats because the most visited blog i've written is the one called Toronto and Niagara Falls, 127 people have viewed that blog, I don't think I know 127 people, next most popular was the Miley Cyrus one. As people just search the title. Anyway, after a very windy drive up and over the hills out of San Francisco and passed a huge windmill farm along the way. We parked up in a little town called Groveland about 22 miles from the Yosemite National park entrance. Temperature was up in the 90's when we arrived , so the kids jumped in the pool. Oohh , a bit cold for an old bugger like me. Theres a ... read more

Day 155 (Tuesday 22/09/09, NJJ) After brekkie left hotel to drive to Yosemite National Park. At Glacier Point we saw Half Dome. Saw El Capitan and the Cathedral at Tunnel View. The views today were totally aweinspiring and made me quite emotional, especially be to be seeing all of this on what is my honeymoon. Bridalveil Falls were quite nice. After a busy day at Yosemite we drove on the Merced. Had the same accomodation problems - finding somewhere that we'd all be happy with. We checked in to the Best Western in Merced and sometime later the tension between us finally eased. Had dinner at Carrows restaurant - my meal was free because I found tissue paper stuck to the cheese in my quesadilla! Relaxed and then bed around 1am. ... read more
