Naja, ... read more

It’s been a long day, 43 hours long in fact, much of which was spent on board QF15 crossing the Pacific. Jackson has beaten his travel sickness PB, managing to vomit 3 times on the plane and once in the taxi. US customs were extremely efficient and amazingly friendly. Maybe being a white family on holidays makes it easier. Arriving in Los Angeles at 7am – 2 hours before we left Canberra – we decided that Venice Beach sounded an interesting place to stay for our one and only day in the US. It’s indeed an interesting place for people watching – people skating, biking, jogging, busking, smoking dope, pumping iron, talking loudly, and acting loco. Dog watching is also fascinating and in most cases proves that people start to look like their dogs: roly-poly, pudge-nosed ... read more

July 17, 2010 I am in Los Angeles. Everything here is amazing, the weather, the cars, the homes, the beaches, the food, the bars, the shops, the landscaping. It seriously can not get more beautiful. Even the traffic is beautiful, Benz’s, Beamers, Bentleys…I want this life… Today, I beached it. Our hotel is only a mile from Venice beach, so walking it was easy. I hung on the massive sandy beach for about 10 minutes until I decided that surfing was in my future. I debated this for about an hour, and then decided that if I didn’t at least go check out the cost and the logistics of it, I would regret it. I walked to the nearest surf shop and spoke with a lady. She recommended a lesson for $95, but told me she ... read more

(Read this as if we published it a month ago if you want to know what we got up to in America. Sorry we've been very lazy....!) Hello to all you blog enthusiasts! This should be our penultimate entry before we make our way back to the sunny shores of Britain. We flew out of Aukland and embarked on a 12hr flight which saw me and Joey sat in the confined middle-isle seats and with me suffering from a migraine and what is most commonly described as man flu, it wasn't exactly the best flight we'd taken on our trip. After landing in LA we made our way to Venice Beach on the west side of the city. Here we would wait for the arrival of Smithy, Moo and Charlie who were joining us on a ... read more

So I have had a pretty good week in LA. After flying into LAX on Sunday and setting ourselves up at a cool hostel down on Venice Beach we headed to a supermarket to get some food in and managed to get a membership card so we saved $25! May not sound like a lot but at this stage in the trip it means everything. We also got a free bus ride so all in all a good money saving day. On Monday we went to Santa Monica, did some laundry (exciting) and went for a wonder through town. Picked up a few things we needed and headed back to the beach and caught a beautiful sunset all the way up the LA coast. I must admit it feels like a buit of a 24/7 fashion ... read more

Very very hot today, over 85 degrees. So we head to Venice (muscle) beach. Sunbathed and walked along the beach, saw some muscle men, some skater park dudes and dolphins out at sea! Loads of shops and stalls along the promenade, also hippie central!! Stopped for an ice cold pitcher of Bud at the Candle bar, saw this reggae looking guy playing a guitar with no strings and singing!! Walking back down we then saw a guy start a fight with this 70 year old hippie, was gonna throw a sign at him then tried to do a spin kick but missed then the old guy beat him up. Really funny!!! Had Tiki garden tea again then off to bed.... read more

So along came Sunday and after a great tip from one of the boys in my hostel room i decided to rent a bike from down on the Santa Monica pier and ride down to Venice Beach. This was great...havent been on a bike for so long (paid for it the next day) and they have a really good bike path that pretty much snakes its away along the promenade for as long as any one hiring a bike would ever be prepared to ride. I took it as far as Venice Beach which was about a half hour. I still cant get over those beaches...compared to Aus (Warrnambool) we r talking at least 300 meters from where the sand starts to the water and it is like this for infinite km's in both directions. the ... read more

Nú fer fyrsti parturin av okkara túri so skjótt at líða móti endanum. Túrurin byrjaði í New York. Býurin sum ongantíð svevur, tað stóra epli - eitt hav av fólkum sum svimja runt í skipaðum kaos. Vit gingu runt har í Manhattan millum hinar milliónirnar av fólkum. Vóru í Empire State Building, fóru út til Statue of Liberty og nýttu náttarlívið í Times Square, meðan morgnarnir gingu við at renna í Central Park. Næst var so Los Angeles. Einglanna býur, býurin hjá teimum kendu, ella eisini kendur sum býurin har Beckham býr. Tað bleiv gingið á teimum tiltiknu stjørnunum, men heldur skuffandi vóru tey einastu kendu vit sóu voksdukkirnar uttanfyri hjá Madam Tussauds.
