Well it has officially happened - first sunburn of the trip! I am rocking a very attractive sunglasses tan, and Brenden as usual just a tan :( LA has been relaxing! this morning we walked to Noahs New York Bagels for breaky - nothing beats a bagel with cream cheese! Then we had to try the 'Famous Hot Wings' beachside! Am looking forward to a tin of soup in the hostel for dinner tonight! Venice beach is officially the best place for people watching, were you can see a circus act, a skate show or someone dressed as a penguin being asked to be an extra on a low budget film! all whislt sitting at a beach side cafe, listening to the homeless play a very impressive old piano - occasionally stopping to either yell at ... read more

So! Entry number one, day one! Impressive! Time:4.15pm Place:Venice Beach Plans:Universal Studios, Santa Monica Peir, Shopping Next Stop: Lima (Peru) - Monday the 2th Additional Stats: Tears: 0 Dramas 0 Stabbings: 0 Starbucks consumption: 1 So far - a good start! The 15 our flight went pretty quick - I had every intention to do some reading but somehow between such inspiring, educational TV such as the Kardashians, and the endless love stories portrayed by Ashton Kuthcher, they became a waste of space in the seat pocket quickly! And from the laughter that was coming from Brendens seat over such classics as "Here Comes the Boom', Refreshing our spanish, definatly did not happen! There was a brief moment where the Ipad had some use for "Stick Man Cliff Diving' and the 4Pics1Word - which was short ... read more

To start out day three we decided to rent some beach cruisers and pedal our way down to Venice Beach. So after renting our bikes we rode down to Santa Monica pier and onto the bike path. Right away we were met by Muscle Beach, an adult playground of sorts with chin up bars, rings, monkey bars, ropes and the like. I have been watching American Ninja Warrior and have seen a few of the contestant’s videos shot here. I decided to climb the rope real quick and have a look around at some of the other equipment. I would love to spend a few hours working out at a place like this every week. Too bad Omaha doesn’t have anything like it, ... read more

We had a lovely meal last night with Arlene Shelly, Charlie and Jeff ending with a suprise Birthday Cake (one of many to come I hope on this trip)Today we got to use the car we had hired and went to Venice Beach to remind ourselves just how normal and boring we are. The crazy mix of beautiful, weight and image concious people juxtaposed with unwashed doped up Hippys is quite something to see; it seems here on the West Coast anything goes.... read more

Having collapsed at the ‘Hacienda Hotel’ at 8:00pm on the 19th of Jan (first day in L.A), it seems I’m due for an update to the blog to try bring anyone reading this up to speed with this crazy adventure. Waking up on the 2nd leg of the 13 hour flight to L.A, my neck was at right angles to my body, my feet freezing, and my ability to concentrate lost in translation, I rolled up the blind on the window to expose a wonderfully bright day waiting outside. Breakfast eventually rolled around, and was again okay for maintaining some kind of bodily function. A slow 4 hours rolled by, and on the crack of 9:00am, was the first sight of land from the plane. However, this wasn’t actually LA, but a costal island just off ... read more

Arriving at around midnight I felt distinctly unsafe. There were people everywhere but it just didn't feel right. The following day I walked along the promanade and encountered more homeless people than I had seen in all the other cities combined. One guy was really keen for me to give him my jacket. As the day got busier and more people filled up the walk way they seemed to fade into the fabric of the life parade. Walked to the Santa Monica Pier and back and along the way saw some incredibly beautiful homes. Sunset on the boulavard was beautiful, straight out of a movie.... read more

it's time to write my first official blog entry attempting to document my trip so far, which has found me in vast desert, dense forest, jaw dropping mountains, beaches, an epic lake, amongst the biggest trees in the entire world and in major cities.... you gotta love america! it all started on the 25th of august, when i landed in the crazy city of san francisco. i had spent a week in san fran around 5 years ago and fell in love with the place so was excited to be reunited with a city i already felt a connection to (as if going once and liking it somehow makes it yours!). i quickly learnt that either the city had changed in the past 5 years or i had... much more likely! i spent the first couple ... read more

By far the trip of my life... I don't know how to put it in words, but the pictures I took speak by themselves...and they are about 5000 in 7 days... We started to plan this journey with the single intention of watching a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game... we've chosen the dates and bought the tickets and, for me, that was all... but my friend Nuno came up the idea of renting a car (wich I was against...driving in a foreign country didn't seem attractive to me...how wrong I was...) and went to see some places worth seeing, watch a live bad religion show, eventually drive a couple miles to Vegas..."yeah sure" I tought...lucky if we make it out of there alive...stupid tought... In seven days we got to see almost everything in Los Angeles ... read more

So today was our final full day at Venice Beach. :( We didn't really want to spend the day lying inthe sun again and risk getting burnt any more than we already have, so we decided that we would save some money today and walk down to Santa Monica, hang out there and look around the shops, then walk back later on. We got up at about 8am, got ready and had some breakfast (waffles once again!), got our stuff together and hit the boardwalk for the long walk down to Santa Monica. As we got to Venice Beach, a guy in sunglasses came up to us with a clipboard asking if we wanted to be in a commercial, saying that there would be dancers, wrestlers and "maybe an elephant". We were pretty skeptical about the ... read more

So today we decided that as we got a bit burnt at the beach yesterday, we would avoid lying around in the sun and go shopping (or window shopping anyway) in Santa Monica. We got up at around 8:30 (pretty late for us these days!), got dressed and went down for our usual waffles for breakfast. We came back up to the room to check on the netbook where we would need to get off on the bus to get to Santa Monica's Third Street (a fairly well known place around here to go shopping - it's basicaly a huge pedestrianised high street full of different kinds of shops. Luckily, the stop was the same one as the pier, it was just around the corner, so we already kind of knew where we were going. We ... read more
