The morning started nice with everyone sleeping until 7:30 and even a full night of no kids needing one of the parents to sleep with them. After the kids had milk we all got dressed and got into the van to go to a restaurant called "Ernie's," which was at the public clubhouse of the PGA West country club. This place had special memories of 20 years of Susie and George owning a house and being members, including many family trips when Steve and his brothers were younger. Some of the best times were when Steve was in college and would get to leave the snow of New England to come to 80 degrees and golfing weather for a week during Thanksgiving and Christmas break. Views from the patio at "Ernie's" included a huge PGA West ... read more

The final day of vacation. Didn’t do much. A few errands and a swim or two. Oh, and back to Pho Vu for lunch. It is quickly becoming a favourite. Our plan for dinner is to eat what food we have left here. So I am thinking scrambled eggs, grapefruit and croutons. Not sounding too appealing at this point. Hopefully Ed will talk me into Coldstone Creamery! And today Ed finally read the blog! He really thinks I’ve been kind in my representation of him. Haha. And wondered why I hadn’t included his main pet peeve of the vacation: grown men who wear their ball caps backwards. One of the many occasions where ‘douche bag’ comes up. Can’t disagree with it – they are too old to be pretending to be cool and end up looking ... read more

It’s almost over! Two more days of heat and then we leave for Minneapolis. Starting to think that a month of vacation may be the perfect amount of time. This is the longest vacation we have ever taken, it will be almost 3 weeks by the time we get home. I’m lucky that I have a job I love so going home isn’t as painful as it could be. Plus I should get back before my staff realizes that I’m not really as useful and necessary as I present. The cat doesn't miss us at all. Thinks she's in paradise at my mom's. Appears there are no rules there whatsoever and everything she does is cute. Including laying on the dining room table! The last few days have been uneventful. I’ve had some ‘poor Ed’ comments ... read more

Pressure cooker. 101 degrees today. Way too hot for me, perfect for Ed. We spent the morning house hunting. Found a place that seems like it would be perfect. This is the view from the back of the house. Met our realtor at the coffee shop. Shortly after we sat down, in came the sporty seniors. Oh, the nightmare. 65+, clad in bike shorts and cycling shoes and the rest of the gear. Skin tight shirts with pockets in the back. The hydration systems. And the skin that just isn’t what it used to be. They all meet up for coffee and I assume to share charming stories of their bike adventures. This is Ed’s retirement nightmare – the skin tight shorts on the loose skinned body. After house hunting we ended up at Sam’s Sushi. ... read more

I should be embarrassed to write a travel blog today. And I would like to take back making fun of Ed for the monster nap yesterday. Today I am useless! Got up and went for a run today and it was embarrassing. I should call it a walk with a few fast moments. And I have a sunburn from yesterday. How did that happen? I am completely bathed in sunscreen at all times. This is how wiped out I was today – too tired to go shopping. Had the car all day while Ed golfed, and spent it on the couch. Yeah, well, it is vacation! I will probably be kicking ass tomorrow. Went and looked at a house this morning. It was completely perfect – but no room for a pool. Damn. We are going ... read more

Got up nice and early. Ed and I started the day with a bet, can a child enter into the Habitat for Humanity draw? Me no, Ed yes. And Kathy wins! Ed must buy tacos for dinner!!! So already I think it is going to be a good day. A true adventure today. We decided we would go back to the Coachella Valley Preserve and do the Pushawalla Palms trail, as the woman at the visitor centre recommended. The trail was classified as moderate/difficult. Good lord! That is complete crap – that trail was completely difficult! It is part of the San Andreas Fault System. About 500 feet in elevation and over 5 miles. Anyways, so we got all packed up, water, granola bars, camera, phone, packsack. Learned something from our last hike, in which we ... read more

Another great day on vacay. Got up early and went to the La Quinta Farmers Market. Stocked up on veg. There is a place there that sells gouda cheese, and it looks identical to Thunder Oak – and the woman working there had heard of Thunder Bay! Hmmm. Ed convinced me that it would be ok to go to the market in exercise clothes. Very suspect and against all of my better judgements. Those tight capris show way too much ass. Being open minded (haha) I decided to go with it. Turns out half the people there were wearing exercise clothes! I guess people at farmers markets think they are healthy, or want to look it. Next time I will try to go without makeup (ok, that will NEVER happen). Then we went to the College ... read more

Finally got out for a hike. We decided to go to the Coachella Valley Preserve. Got up nice and early, and then had to make a few stops on the way for coffee and advil. Actually a good combo! As we were driving to the preserve we saw what all the cool tourists were doing. I'm surprised to see the average age of cool at about 60! We got to the visitor centre before it opened. We weren't the only ones there. A group of middle aged women were just ahead of us. So we selected to go the opposite direction. Without a map. On the way in there were signs that we might see a mountain lion or puma!!!! Too bad we weren't so lucky, and here is our wildlife sighting. So it doesn't matter ... read more

This travel blog is a lot of pressure! I've got to do more exciting things. Had another pool day. Can't beat lazing around in the sun. However, my back isn't enjoying it, and has broken out into some kind of bumpy rash. If my nurse sister was here she could help diagnose me. It is completely itchy. I'm assuming it is from the sun, my back got a bit burnt. My skin hates the sun. I'm red and blotchy, while my husband turns a nice brown colour, without sunscreen. I'm bathing in SPF45. Skipped the street fair. We will go next Thursday. Really we did nothing on Thursday. It was good. Had nachos for dinner. The vacation is a slippery slope for bad habits. There are a lot of Canadian television shows on here. So I'm ... read more

Went shopping after the house hunting. Obsessed with the thought of a new house! However I did push it out of my mind long enough to go bra shopping - another one of my obsessions. Dropped Ed at Trilogy to golf, so I had the car for 4 hours of shopping. It was about 93 degrees so I was glad to be in the air conditioning. I'm walking into the mall, and the person behind me burps. Loud and powerful. As a result my hair moves! Ewwwww. Manners? Too disgusting. I am now trying to find a way to outlaw burping - at least in public. I shouldn't have to listen to that. Another enjoyable Victoria's Secret shopping experience. 4 new bras! That's a good day for me, brings my bra count to about 40! Underwear ... read more
