No one is going to believe the sight I saw at the pool today. I just know it. This account is entirely true, no embellishment whatsoever. Completely factual. I’ve actually left out some of the more offensive details. And you can thank me later for not taking any pictures. It’s a very hot day. Really hot. Maybe 95 degrees. The last day to tan before heading back to chilly TBagBay. And thanks to a slight belly burn yesterday, I’m fully covered. Which in hindsight, is completely irrelevant. There is one couple there and an older woman. I pick a lounger two down from the older woman. She is packing up to leave. She’s about 70. And has implants. Really round implants. And is wearing a tankini with a key hole over the boobs. The key hole ... read more

The last few days of vacation are focused on getting the right tan for the wedding. And errands. Way too many errands. Wednesday: half hour drive, half hour waiting for the property management place to open so I can pay my bill. But they don’t take cash. Half hour drive back home. Don’t take cash. Right. I head to the pool to relax. It is the middle of the week, about 90 degrees. The pools are usually really quiet in the afternoon, people are working and most of the seniors have gone home. I get to the pool and Mr. Dad of the Year is there. Yeah. And teaching his daughter to swim. So I settle into a lounger clear across the pool deck. It doesn’t matter where I go. He is so loud. In a ... read more

This really is not a travel blog. Today, for example, I went nowhere that anyone would be interested in. E says I could make some restaurant recommendations. True. So if you are looking for a good taco, Bob’s Twin Kitchen on Jackson in Indio. The service is slow. The people are usually pretty nice but they don’t always get your order right. The place is very small and you don’t want to eat in Bob’s – go with take out. The neighbourhood looks shady but seems pretty safe. If you are female, don’t wear a dress there. But the tacos are excellent! Today I scrubbed cabinets. Inside and out. For hours. I don’t do this much housework in my own house forget about on vacation! It does look good. So the reward was 3 hours at ... read more

Up early to run. Then dress shopping! For the third time. Little Lou is getting married in 2 months and I don't have a dress. I head over to Desert Bridal today in an attempt to find something age appropriate. So I've been carrying my strapless bra around with me for days now, hoping to come across the perfect dress. So far I have had zero luck. Well, I did find a dress, but then my mother stole it from me. Yes, my mother! And the dress is a knockout and a super price. Saks. Fuchsia. Less than $100!!!! Designer. Unheard of. I try the dress on, it looks great. I don’t know if I would want it for Little Lou’s wedding, but it is a great dress and for sure I’m going to get it. ... read more

A very early start to the day. It is going to be 100 degrees for the rest of our time here, so I have to get up with the sun to run and do my torturous Kayla workouts. She is a total athlete and overseeing my exercise bootcamp for the wedding. 15lbs. So far I’m down 1. Yikers. Only 10 weeks to go! And vacation is not helping. Moose Munch. I knew I should not bring it into the house! I’m seeing some kind of disturbing ‘cleanse’ in my future. Plus my idea is to buy a dress that is a size too small. Setting reasonable expectations is always a strength of mine. I’m also going to be racing a client 5km so I have to keep up my running. So Kayla has me doing 400m ... read more

So the Stagecoach Music Festival is in full swing. Everywhere you go there are people riding bikes to the festival, wearing what appears to be some kind of unofficial uniform. Cowboy boots, very small jean shorts, bra tops and straw hats. Most seem to be drunk or quickly heading in that direction. E and I go to the small neighbourhood pool around 5, it is so hot and the pool isn’t busy. We get set in our lounge chairs and it becomes very apparent why it isn’t busy. It is some kind of drunk fest at the pool. Mark and Matt seem to be the main focus. Matt is completely drunk. And loud. And burnt. He is red all over. And he is staring at me. He’s in the pool directly in front of my chair ... read more

Resurrecting the Blog. I credit the Midwestern Slack Jaw: a very distinctive look that can easily be sighted in airports in the Midwest, this example is from Minneapolis. Tall and big. The look in the lineup at security is decidedly beige, with most outfits too casual for your couch. The ponch is stuck out and the jaw is slack. It’s a long lineup of this same look. Comfortable shoes, lots of q-tips, but more large midrifts and oversized clothes. One guy I think is fully sweated but turns out they are jeans. His wife is looking good from the neck up. There must be 20 people in line with the gut thrust out and the bottom jaw hanging. It’s a simple look. No pics. Unfortunately, I behaved myself. I'm of course dressed cute casual in case ... read more

NYC!!! I don’t want to be ungrateful about free accommodations, especially in one of the most expensive cities in the world. But a bathroom that exits right onto the kitchen?? Dangerous. Ed’s most common phrase, ‘could you tell I had issues in there’? Come on! It’s bathroom, kitchen and living room, in about 150 square feet. And if it was just family, well, it wouldn’t be so bad. But Mylee has a roommate!! So we get to Mylee’s apartment. The stairs are, well, not straight. I’m a bit nervous going in, but if Sayla stays here, it’s got to be ok. The place is great. We get cleaned up and head out to Char No. 4 for dinner. My sister looks the menu up online and guesses what we order! How predictable have we become? OK, ... read more

TBagBay to TO. I haven’t been gone for 2 hours. I’m like some sort of weirdo magnet when I’m travelling. She’s in Row 7. It is the world’s loudest woman. She is yelling. I am two rows ahead of her and can hear everything she is saying clear as day. I can’t concentrate on my book because she is so loud. And none of it is interesting. Why is that? The people who are the loudest are also the dullest. So she is going on and on. Just mindless, I hate to say it, woman talk. The exact kind of woman I don’t want to be. I bet she’s wearing comfortable shoes. “We don’t spend a lot on Christmas. Really, it’s Christmas every day, you know what I mean”. No, no one knows what you mean. ... read more

Yes, it is finally almost American Thanksgiving. Time for the 3rd annual SS BF shopping weekend. Each year I get all my Christmas shopping done in this one weekend. Expecting the same this year. Since we’ve been a few times we are almost professionals. Shelly Lou (SL) is nervous to be the feature in the blog! Can’t blame her, usually I focus most of my blog efforts on Ed. Seems no one wants to be a part of my blog (you’re next Mylee!)... I guess I can see why. Travelling seems to bring out the nasty. Not in me, but others. For example, last week I went up to Sioux Lookout.I’m sitting in the airport here waiting for the flight. It’s 7:30am. I’m sitting quietly, looking forward to the 40 minute nap. The woman who is about ... read more
