:) Howdie!... read more

Real early start today, wake up call for 5am so we could meet our pickup for a transfer to the Las Vegas airport and our helicopter to GC. Our luxury limo arrived, which turned out to be a limo SUV, nice. There was some confusion about where the pick up would be, even when checking with hotel staff we got different answers, so we split into two groups. Eventually it turned up out the back by the bus park, so Gary and Jaime jumped,in and went around to pick up Shiree and Liam. Caused a moment of confusion when Shiree saw Gary in the right hand seat (why is Gary driving this car in here?). Drove down the strip and got to the airport with about ten minutes to spare. We flew with Sundance choppers, they ... read more

We got to Grand Canyon later in the evening, checked in the Lodge and took a walk to Canyon rim for our first sight of the Canyon at sunset. We took a bus ride to a couple of view points but where ever you look from it is so magnificent. I have seen the canyons in South America, often deeper than the Grand Canyon, but Grand Canyon was an owsome sight. Its huge breadth and the vivid rock formations offer an awesome sight that you have to see to appreciate. There were a lot of tourists around the place but one thing that was strange that we could not contact the outside world on the mobile. In the end we had to sit in the lobby of the hotel and use Wifi and Skype to let ... read more

Last time I had visited the Grand Canyon, it was on a hiking trip with my brother John. It was our first trip together, a great moment of bonding before he passed away. I was impressed with how hard he hiked, and I remember how much he enjoyed seeing the canyon in all its glory. My clearest memory, though, was when we were sitting around eating snacks. I was short on jerky but had plenty of gummies. John, holding an abundant supply of jerky proceeded to make me various offers on his goods. So we bartered for jerky - classic John. I was really glad to also share this place with Allie. She too impressed me with how hard she hiked. We made record time out of the canyon, partially because we wanted to beat some ... read more

Sorry for the lack of updates once again, there was no internet access where we stayed in the Grand Canyon (I guess they want people to enjoy the views). We travelled from Monument Valley to the Grand Canyon on Sunday which turned into a longer journey than expected as one of the roads we were planning to take was closed resulting in something of a detour. Unfortunately our sat nav insisted on taking us down the closed road and wouldn't recommend another route. Fortunately I had downloaded a mobile phone app before we left the UK that included all of the USA roads and so we were able to navigate ourselves. Phew... We stayed on the north rim of the Grand Canyon in a wooden lodge which was great. The north rim is separated by only ... read more

Leaving the Meteor Crater area occurred early on Monday morning. My idea was to hit the road before the wind hit us. Driving a motor coach in the wind does not provide an atmosphere of relaxation and enjoyment. Constant attention must be paid to the lane markings in order to keep the right wheels from engaging those annoying “ruts’ on the side of the road that were obviously designed to awaken a sleepy driver. When you hit those ruts, the sound could wake the dead! Having the sun to your back is also a good thing when your windshield is about 8’ wide and 5’ high. It does provide a wonderful “window on the world”, and you can even get a suntan while driving! This was to be our last travel day heading west. By day’s ... read more

Grand Canyon Breakfast outside again, which is always lovely. I have discovered that a Smoothie is an excellent start to the day especially when accompanying scrambled eggs, crispy American bacon, hash brown and a splash of maple syrup. Definitely well worth getting up for and the strength of American coffee keeps me nicely cafeinated for several hours. Some fantastic scenery today, starting first of all with arid land full of cacti but quite soon changing to the red rocks so typical of Arizona landscapes. We stopped first of all, at Monteszma Castle which is a dwelling built out of rock way up a cliff face, dating from the 15th century. We didn’t stay outside to admire it for too long as the sun was beating down quite ferociously and despite slathering myself with suntan lotion every ... read more
