We managed to get a bus to the Grand Canyon that got us there 5 mins before the Backcountry Permit office shut and we were lucky to find a cancellation and found out we could camp in the bottom if we wanted. By then it was around 48 hours of travelling with sod all sleep, waiting for the bus to the campsite and dummies were flying all over the canyon, never felt so tired, ended up putting the tent up in the dark, eating a sandwich and collapsing in our sleeping bags by 7.30. Woke up at 4 in the morning to find that it wasn't as hot as we thought it would be - just above freezing actually! and we had nothing to do but lie there wide awake freezing our bollocks off for an ... read more

Jesus, what a few days it's been! Didn't exactly start great when Paul went into HSBC in reading to get a new card to find out that they'd actually closed his account! No time to sort it though, had to catch the plane, so had a mad time before trying to get all money found and in the right place! But just to make him feel better dave left his card at dixons in heathrow, so we're both a bank account down. Had a seriously long flight (10.5 hours), sat next to a really old bloke who just seemed to have a permanamt leak of gas from his arse - reeked all the way there! Landed in LAX for about 6pm, and headed across to the LA greyhound station, which by the way seems to be ... read more

I left Vegas after brekkie and headed to the Hoover Dam. This is in a great spot but to get the best views you have to pay to park. I didn't bother and parked for free but only saw the dam from behind. All the same it was worth seeing and is quite stylishly designed in the Art Deco style. I arrived in Flagstaff in the afternoon. Flagstaff is a small college town with a nice downtown area of historic low-rise buildings and loads or bars. I wandered round to one to watch some baseball. I could quite easliy get into baseball. The St Louis Cardinals one the world series beating Detroit 4 -1 overall. The following day I rose realtively early to drive the 80 miles to the Grand Canyon. I tried not to look ... read more

It's a beautiful 85 mile dive from Prescott Valley, AZ up Interstate 17 to Flagstaff, AZ. In the past I've just driven through Flagstaff on my way to other locations like Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, or Monument Valley but today my plans were to visit four areas of interest near Flagstaff. First I visited Lowell Observatory (downtown on Mars Hill). I took a great 45 minute guided tour of the observatories and beautiful grounds. They had a nice video presentation with a lot of information on the history of Lowell, other astronomers and information on current research being done there. Also, they had a very nice interactive exhibit hall. (This is a must see if you are anywhere near the Flagstaff area). I spent about two hours there. Next a few miles north of town I ... read more

Hvor er det lææænge siden, vi forlod Las Vegas!! Det var ret utroligt at rejse gennem Nevada. Man glemmer jo hurtigt at "glimmer-byen" ligger midt i ørkenen.

Well, it was easier said than done. Despite the strange sacharrin-sweet superficial commerciality of Las Vegas, the town was really quite more-ish. And yet the excitement must pall very quickly - when all's said and done there is not a lot more than gambling and drinking to do there. The general consensus was that it's a fantastic place to visit....but to live there full time you'd have to be marginally psycho (or end up that way at least). So we somewhat unwillingly wound it up, and after a rather sugary but extremely satisfying pancake breakfast courtsey of the Hostel, we set out for our first real supermarket shop! Eating out all the time, while cheap in the right places, is not always hugely wholesome and can still chew through the cash, so fruit, veggies and pasta ... read more

Hi there blogger buddies!! Sorry for recent lack of contact. We were kidnapped by a pack of grizzly bears in Yosemite who forced us into their honey camp. Fortunately, after a few days, we learnt how to speak Bear, explained that we were not bees and lacked the appropriate honey-making capibilities. The bears apologised and let us go... Anyway, here we are! Yosemite turned out to be covered in snow, which made it absolutely spectacular, frozen lakes and the like. Bit Narnia-esque! We haven't posted any piccies in a while because my camera broke entirely of it's own accord. (nothing to do with my walking it into a sofa while in my pocket.) But we have bought a new one, waaaaayyy! To make up for it we are posting some new pics right now...actually, seem to ... read more

Okay...major catch up now! Even though it's still winter, I was apparently quite lucky to get a bed at the hostel in Flagstaff. I continue the trend of not booking ahead and counting my lucky charms I suppose. The staff and surroundings at the hostel were very welcoming, so I booked for a tour of the Grand Canyon for the next morning. Go go go! I joined Aussie Emma, Americans Jen and Eva and a cluster of entertaining Japanese on the bus in the morning. All of us girls inwardly smiled at our tour guide Mike, as he was certainly the first pleasurable sight for the day! We hit the road and weaved between the dry hills glancing at whatever Mike was talking about. A quick stop at the grocery store and the restroom (I'm sure ... read more

Motorhome News from North America 3 Going around in circles - Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and back into Arizona Zyon National Park - and The Grand Canyon 4th - 15th February 2006 As the sun came above the mountains we retraced our steps, following the road from Bryce Canyon down through the beautiful valley of irrigated fields along the Virgin River, snaking its way like a sidewinder through Glendale and Orderville, where hundreds of old cars are laid to rest beside neglected houses - and a fine church stands proudly by the road, to Mount Carmel Junction. The persecuted Mormons made their way to this part of Utah 150 years ago and finally settled a short way to the north. They certainly struck lucky here, for the smart town of Springdale at the bottom of the canyon ... read more
