Hi everyone, today's journal entry is a simple update. Graduation is now completed and we are taking care of the not so fun part of our forthcoming adventure. The details--packing and paperwork. I have applied for an international driver's license and have begun to take care of some of the insurance issues. In order to get an international driver's license you must apply through your local CAA office. It costs $15 and you will need two passport photos. The insurance for our family will cost $1040 for $2 million emergency medical and life insurance for the ten months. If you want to come to Costa Rica I can recommend a terrific tour company. Alonso was our guide last year when we went at Easter. He has a company that does custom tours. http://www.elementonatural.com/ Let me know ... read more

I guess it is now official. I have accepted a job in Nuevo Arenal, Costa Rica. I will be working for a Canadian woman living there who requires a private teacher for her son who is in the 8th grade. We have purchased our tickets and are leaving to San Jose, Costa Rica on August 28th from Chicago. I am sure you might be wondering...Why Chicago? The answer is simple $$$. Return tickets from Chicago/San Jose $389 total per person. The ticket is good for one year from departure. The price is great! What about getting to Chicago? Amtrack from Williston, ND one way to Chicago $358.00 for our family of four. Now all I have to do is get us to Williston on the 26th of August. We were going to drive to Costa Rica ... read more

Hi, I am going to do a preliminary blog entry to get comfortable with this blogging thing. Being on a budget I tried to find the cheapest flight to London. I found that there are charters flying out of Calgary that were around $500 cheaper than any flight out of Saskatoon. So my European adventure will begin by driving to Calgary. I will drive there probably on June 15th. First post. Over and out.... read more

So sind ... read more

After a 29 hour journey I arrived in Regina last night @ 8pm...The city looked lovely with street lights on the snow... and my house was quite inviting!! I slept very well when I was finally horizontal but suspect the 12hour time change may take some adjustment. My adventure was wonderful !! Look forward to sharing more stories with you in the near future.... read more

I know my timing could be better. I seem to end up leaving the country for warmer regions just as winter's worst has passed. But hey, I worked a couple months on a drilling rig and I'm spending that hard earnt money in the good ol' land of Australia. I was working up in Alberta near Red Deer so it sure was costing me money to make money. Hotels, food, gasoline, and all that junk was adding up to a fortune. Luckily the pay on the rigs is uncomparable and I saved up enough that I won't have to work for my first while in Australia. I'm getting pretty excited to see Sofia again... read more

Well, the New Year has arrived and I am excited for all that is to come!! The countdown is on -- yes!!! my trip is BOOKED! I depart Canada on Sunday, January 21st/07 for Bangkok, Thailand where my adventure will begin. I plan to travel for 4 weeks and my route will be as follows: Bangkok - Northern Thailand (Chang Mai, etc.) - Laos (Louang Prabang, Vangvieng, Vientianne) - Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi an, Hue, Na trang, HoChiMin/Saigon - Cambodia (Siem Riep, Phnom Phen, Ankor) and back to Thailand. If I have time at the end (doubtedly) I'd like to venture south to visit some Islands/beaches that Southern Thailand is notorious for. I realize that I have packed alot into 4 weeks, but you know me...gotta make the most of that precious vacation time. I ... read more

Wow I've been home a month already! I just kinda gave up on the whole blog thing at the end of it all (it was too hard to admit that it would be over). Right up until my plane took off from Bangkok I was in denial about coming home to a winter blunderland. I've heard that many people who travel for a long period of time suffer from a bit of depression upon being home again for a while. In my case it's true. I barely care to leave the house. I'm sure that will pass as I find a job and have something consturctive to do. Finally, to cap it all off I would like to list my favorites and also some things I didn't like about 9 and a half months in southeast ... read more
