Monday 11 October Day 2 Boston to Quebec City 450miles No need to mention it was an early start. This being our first organized tour we need to get In to the habit of the 6am early morning wake up calls luggage out the front of the room at 645am. It was to be a long day on the road.  We made a pit stop at a supermarket, it was the most normal looking suoermarket I had seen in the whole trip so far. We bought some snacks for the bus for a few days and again were on our way. Henk informs us of the overnight news as well as the upcoming temperatures and other facts and figures that are relevant in the areas traveling through. The countryside just North of Boston was similar to ... read more

Touched down in lovely Canada, Ben and I had a rather hairy taxi ride from the airport to Quebec City. The cabbie was driving so fast that I had to ask him to slow down. Thrillseekers we are, suicidal we are not! His reply was "chill out lady, we all drive like this over here!" Ben's subconscious response was "no tippy for this cabby chappy!" and as a result led to some French profanities being thrown our way when we exited the cab... ooh la la! To give you a bit of background on the Quebec province itself, it is 7 times the size of Britain or 3 times the size of France. We stayed in Quebec City, the capital of the province. Warm and welcoming Quebec City is the only fortified city north of Mexico ... read more

Old Quebec City has been one of my favorite cities in North America since I was a kid. Being the only walled city in North America and having existed since the 1600's gained it status as a Unesco World Heritage site. It also gives it great character. this day in September the weather was spectacular for strolling through the city. ... read more

QUEBEC CITY - Mon 23 Aug 2010 We left Adam at the camp site at Manic 2 changing his tyres back from knobblies to road tyres. We had crossed into Labrador on the ferry with Adam and although not ridden with him had seen him each day and stayed at a few places. He was from Long Island and had ridden his Triumph Tiger up to do the Trans Lab Highway. Hope you made it home in one piece Adam. We headed along the edge of the St Lawrence River which, looks like a sea it is so wide, in glorious sunshine and arrived on the outskirts of Quebec City just as it was getting dark so booked into a motel. Tue 24 Aug Moved ourselves to the lovely municipal campsite, washed our filthy bikes, took ... read more

Ok so here go's my first entry. Working on the Maasdam is deffinately an experience. I have never worked anywhere so dramatic! The thing about working on ships is that every little thing gets blown up to 5 times bigger than it really is. The lows are extreme lows, and the high's are extreme high's. For example, had a thing with another crew member and when it ended it felt as tho i was getting divored or something. Obvisouly it was nothing, and in the real world it wouldnt really have bothered me. And then in greenland i was stood out on the bow of the ship gazing up at these mountains covered in fog with icebergs surrounding the ship and i was in complete awe that this was my job. Being on the ship i ... read more

We have embarked on an adventure to the north in Quebec City, Canada. Arriving by a modern, frequently dotted with rest-stops highway, we entered the city the evening of August 21, 2010. We are staying in the vieux-porte at a hotel called the Auberge Saint-Antoine. A hotel/museum of found objects, the building is unique and has artifacts from the nearbye site displayed in an interesting fashion throughout the building. The lobby bar has a view of architectural walls, extremely comfy high back chairs, a slightly limited menu selection and relatively pricey drinks. Dinner our first night was at Laurie-Raphael- a fabulous restaurant- Jose had the blind ‘chef-chef’ menu (i.e. he didn’t know what was coming). It’s hard to describe but it was a completely different experience - our first full immersion into molecular gastronomy. After dinner, ... read more

Hasta pronto!... read more
