The journey continues. We were kept awake during the night by massive thunder storms. We could see both sheet and normal lightning flashing around the city. 44mm of rain has fallen in the past 24 hours. We were up on time and had a chance after a quick breakfast to quickly explore and take some photographs. Then we were off again. The countryside gradually changed and there was a lot more farm land. We stopped at a large fruit and vegetable market for an early lunch and then continued along by the St. Lawrence river. Everywhere now the wording is in French as we near Quebec. Stopped at a Catholic church for a break. Aparently the Madonna statue actually cried a tear in the last century so now this is a significant site for Roman Catholics. ... read more

So we literally just arrived to Quebec City after a gruelling 8 hour drive from Toronto... and guess what, our hotel had to deliver us a bad news... we can't check in before 2pm... so there we were.... no sleep since we left Toronto at 1200am right after my shift in the hospital and we're dead tired and we can't even get a shower or even a little shut eye... But we're a trooper... and definetely won't let a little bad news ruin our trip so we head straight down to Quebec City's 'lower town' or what they call 'Basse Ville'.... It's my second visit to Quebec city and I vaguely remember the place... again because I used to not appreciate what we have in our own backyard... with the thought of 'hey it's just there ... read more

Due to my slackness I figured I would keep writing and continue with my recent adventure which took place just over a week ago now to Quebec City in Canada. This time I travelled with a friend of mine Debbie and we really just picked the city out randomly. Thoughts of Europe had creeped into our minds but limited leave days and a long flight meant that ideas were thrown around and somehow we ended up with Quebec City. Having never had an overarching desire to see Canada just yet (I was planning on saving it for my retirement) I must admit that we were both pleasantly surprised and had an absolute blast. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and a quick workout, shower and change saw us hit the town by 1900. Due to our ... read more

We're in Levis, Quebec - just across the St. Lawrence river from Quebec City. After leaving North Carolina, we stopped in KOA RV parks in Staunton, VA and just outside of Allentown, PA. Both of these beautifully maintained parks were in lovely bucolic settings. On Friday June 25th we took the RV to the Maine coast for a 10-day stay at another lovely campground overlooking the ocean - just a few miles from downtown Bar Harbor - very pretty - very tourista. Having my motorcycle while traveling is always fun. Barbara and I took the bike to Acadia National Park for the 27 mile loop ride with it's magnificent views, breezes and cool temperatures - that is - cool until last Saturday when we - like everyone else on the east coast - felt the effects ... read more

As I wrote in my paper-and-pen diary, "Take heed, cash-strapped travellers: Quebec City could be a town in France and you don't have to leave Canada to reach it." I thoroughly enjoyed my three nights in the provincial capital of Quebec. It was a picturesque city of cobblestone streets, cafes with terraces, busy squares and verdant parks. After five weeks in tiny Jonquiere, it was wonderful to be in a bustling metropolis that has managed to maintain the intimate idea of everyone knowing one another. As happens when I really like a place, I pictured myself spending a longer part of my life in Quebec City. Who knows when I'll be back. Instead of electing the youth hostel life that can be so "hit-or-miss" I decided to Couchsurf in Quebec and found a woman about my ... read more

St. Lawrence Seaway May 25-26, 2010 Today’s blog will be about the St. Lawrence Seaway but first wanted to say the travel to Montreal was very scenic. I wanted to stop in Montreal but no one told me about the 2-hour traffic jam and just getting into the city would take 3-4 hours. Oh well. Montreal and Quebec are a vacation destination in an of themselves. Are you ready for some history? When I travel I do a little research into the area that I am going to visit. It is very worthwhile as it gives you a new perspective on what the people are like, their livelihood, and so much more. When we take a look at the history of the St. Lawrence Seaway, it is filled with lots of interesting “stuff”. It has a ... read more

Quebec City is the capital of the Canadian province of Quebec. The narrowing of the Saint Lawrence River approximate to Quebec City and Lévis, on the opposite bank, provided the name given to the city, Kébec, an Algonquin word meaning "where the river narrows". Founded in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America. The ramparts surrounding Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) are the only remaining fortified city walls that still exist in the Americas north of Mexico, and were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the 'Historic District of Old Québec'.... read more
