Although it hasn't felt like ours for over a month now, today was our last official day at our home in Bradford. Sean had been there for ten years, so it must have been a weird moment for him to leave something so familiar and comfortable. But when it came time to leave the keys for the new owners, he did it with the same kind of inner quiet and confidence that he does most everything in his life. In Sean's world, once the decision is made, there is no hesitation or regret. It is simply time to move on... Speaking of which, we are mostly "on location" at our new home now. In the middle of the night, we hitched up our shiny new RV and drove like it was nobodies business onto the CNE ... read more

Was picked up by the shuttle At 1:30. All prepared to hand the drive an nice tip to ensure prompt service, I squeezed the tip in my hand tightly as I loaded my own luggage into the van. We drove to another location to pick up one other passenger. A handsome 34 year old visiting from Vancouver. he laughed when I asked if he was in school there saying " oh gosh no, I am 30 30 30 30 30 30 4 " he appologigized for the stutterin and I replied " no problem, Im not busy and not going anywhere for an hour or so." I assume his place of birth, marmara Ontario was too much to get out as he pulled it up on his phone to show me On a map. I spent ... read more

Taking it easy By this point my lag was starting to ease. I'd never been out of Europe prior to Canada and therefore I'd never had jetlag. It's strange because I was so pumped to do stuff I didn't really notice it, however each morning I woke up I felt run down and haggard. This would soon pass when I got into my stride, but it just made getting out of bed a bit of a chore. We had an easy morning and ambled up to China town. We enjoy a good Chinatown to be fair, always something fun to look at, including my favourite ever shop sign "Jewellery, Antiques, Swords". You know, because when you're fighting fighting back hordes of medieval invaders you need to look your most bling next to your collection of fine ... read more

A long time coming Back in December, with no travel planned I was sat in the lounge watching some inane program on TV when I was struck down with a super idea. Let's go to Canada. I ran it by Gemma, who for the most part is that voice of reason and the limit switch on my impulsiveness. I didn't anticipate for one minute she'd agree, but she did and after several weeks of planning and deciding on locations, activities, budget etc we booked flights to Toronto, an internal flight to Victoria and a flight back from Vancouver. It was 7 long months before we finally turned my absurd and flippant idea into a reality, but man what a trip it turned out to be! Travel from Sault Ste. Marie to Toronto via Hwy 17....Thursday, June 12th. Crappy day...still misty and foggy from yesterday's rain when I arrived in SSMarie. 17° C Up at 06:00...ready to check out @ 7:30. Filled up with gas at Shell on Great Northern Road. Pulled up to a pump for service and the attendant advised me that the "service pumps" cost more than the self-serve...I splurged.....69.045 L @ $1.499 = $103.50 (1605 km). Txt to Joe to tell him I'm on the road and moving at 07:57 hr. Stopped in Spanish, ON, at 10:11 hr for a break and a pee. Picked up unusual cans of tea and Lotto tickets for Teri (1801.8 km) Still cloudy and lots of fog...can't see anything of the lake or surrounding area....visibility on the road OK, but not far ... read more

When selecting a landmark meeting point to meet friends or do business in the north end of Toronto, you will find Chalkers Pub at 247 Marlee Ave in North York to be a very convenient destination. Located on the second floor of a strip mall this is a very spacious place with a huge 2nd floor patio. This is a World Cup hangout. This particular pub is located close to Eglinton Ave and Allen Rd intersection; its a great meeting point because of its proximity to three major highways, and I find its surprisingly easy for folks who live downtown to get to as well. Tested by previous experience, its the farthest point I can ride on my bicycle and back home again and not have it be an ordeal. On June 17th 2014, the Smojoe ... read more

After weeks (more like months) of planning and anticipation, we're almost there! China, that is. decided to take advantage of a Wagjag deal on an airport hotel with long-term parking. It also allows us an easy start on our flight day - tomorrow, already! We depart Pearson's Terminal 1, tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. 13 hours and 20 minutes later, we'll land in Beijing. I doubt that we'll hit the ground running, but will hopefully have our eyes and all other senses wide open and ready to absorb all surrounding sights and sounds Chinese! Feeling good that we've done some more than cursory research and acquainted ourselves with a bit of info about the main spots on our guided tour. Heck, we've even downloaded to our handy iPad, a healthy smattering of guide maps, descriptions and highlights ... read more
