When selecting a landmark meeting point to meet friends or do business in the north end of Toronto, you will find
Chalkers Pub at 247 Marlee Ave in North York to be a very convenient destination.
Located on the second floor of a strip mall this is a very spacious place with a huge 2nd floor patio. This is a World Cup hangout. This particular pub is located close to Eglinton Ave and Allen Rd intersection; its a great meeting point because of its proximity to three major highways, and I find its surprisingly easy for folks who live downtown to get to as well. Tested by previous experience, its the farthest point I can ride on my bicycle and back home again and not have it be an ordeal.
On June 17th 2014, the
Smojoe SEO Show was performed live here by myself, Rob Campbell inside this lovely WiFi venue - this time the proceedings were promoted on behalf of the North York Singles MeetUp group as administered by Leeann Jenson. Every audience member was instructed in advance to bring their computers and that night they were urged to make media on behalf of other audience members any way they knew how... With Rob Campbell coaching the workshop, the attendees soon found new ways to help each other. Everyone in the crowd became more SEO savvy and more social media friendly and each suddenly more acutely aware of their media brushstrokes and how to increase their reach and authority.
Glenda MacDonald chronicled the SMOJoe SEO MeetUp the best; she did a fantastic job communicating the order of events and sharing highlights from the many segments of the show, with original pictures, on her blog.
The best part of the night was when people won prizes! Some of the sponsors attended the event and they brought gifts. Above is
Neville Pokroy with a
business growth book that he gave away to people brave enough to share their website meta data and suffer the scrutiny of the crowd. Below is Lisa Charters who won toothpaste and dental supplies.
That's right - during the second half of the SMOJoe SEO Show audience members make their way to the front of the hall and voice their URLS to be typed into the machine and scoured by SMOJoe et all for mistakes and easy fixes. Its a group learning experience.
Despite the storm outside on Tuesday June 17th 2014, there were thirty people in the audience eager to listen and learn valuable SEO secrets about their own websites.
People helped sponsor this live SEO blogging event and that enabled myself, Rob Campbell the moderator, to be able to frivolously dispense travelers toothbrushes and mini toothpaste packs to attendees that asked smart questions, and made good contributions for the benefit of the other attendees. One rule I have is, if people make notes after questions then the person who asked the question gets a prize.
One of the best pieces of feedback that I received was frwrote me an email afterwards to say how he wished there was more networking and a round of introductions, and he's absolutely right . He penned it as,
Hello Rob. Thanks for your presentation yesterday. A miss: You should have told everybody to introduce each other and open up the invitation to exchange business cards and also provide the time for networking and interaction.. He's right. Next time we'll do that and pass around a piece of paper that everyone can write their urls on and make that available at the end of the night too for tweeting and blogging.
The evening ended when Glenda MacDonald won the
olive oil and balsamic vinegar donated by Angelo Tramonti of Sarafino in Uxbridge Ontario. It was a very generous gift and it makes a great picture to show off the some of the most proficient participants who stayed to the end of the night and continue to be social around the SMOJoe scene.
Chalkers Pub is a fantastic place to relax after the event. Post by
