Niagara Falls Travel Blogs

Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Day 12 North America » Canada » Ontario » Niagara Falls
We decided to leave the country and visit with our friendly neighbors to the north. The views of Niagara Falls are spectacular from the Canadian side. We headed off to ride on the Maid of the Mist and we were not disappointed. The wind made the trip even more enjoyable, the gusting water pounding on your lovely rain smock, which was sticking to our skin, awesome! 223 Miles traveled in the day. 2,882 miles traveled total. 2E to 90E to I190N to Queen Elizabeth Way to 420E. Rainbow Bridge

We went to Niagara Falls and took a boat called Maid of the Mist, that took you so close to the falls that you got soaked from all the mist. It was really exciting. You could see New York on the other side. [View Full Entry]

Patrick's lovely plums......! From Ottawa we moved on to Niagara Falls, one of the seven great Wonders of the World and it certainly was magnificent. Instead of the usual day trip from Toronto, which a lot of people that we had met along the way had done or were doing, we chose to stay for 3 nights in Niagara. This later turned out to be a great decision. On arrival at the hostel, we were greeted by our super-friendly host Patrick, who insisted on us sampling some of his delicious, local-grown, yellow plums everytime we passed reception. After a long chat [View Full Entry]

Boat heading into the mist

The bus journey from Boston up to Toronto started at 5am. We got the bus from Everett to the subway and then the subway in to the centre of town and the Greyhound station. Our Greyhound bus left at 7am and was due to arrive in Toronto at 20.55. It started off fine and our first three stops and driver changes were fine, everything ran on time, but then we arrived in Buffalo. We arrived 10 minutes after our scheduled arrival time at 17.55 and we were due to leave at 6pm, but due to the utter incompetence of our driver [View Full Entry]

A very early start from New York. The coach is full but everyone seems to be getting on okay. Our guide Miss Penny is very thorough and looks after us well. She is from Texas. As I write this, it is 10pm and we have just eaten. Finally arrived at 6,15 and seemed to wait an age to clear customs. It is very busy here. Then waited to get off the coach as there was an amazing thunder storm. I have been amazed by the countryside we have passed through. Beautiful trees and mile after mile of maize, used to feed [View Full Entry]

Niagara river after the falls

After spending a few days in cosmopolitain Toronto, we headed off towards "Niagara Falls". Over the internet, we'd booked to stay at the "Niagara Falls Motel". (Just a mile from the falls). Accomodation is really expensive in this area and this was cheaper than most. "We weren't suprised, to find that it was a grotty little place." However, after 12 months of travelling and having stayed in lots of places that weren't up to scratch. We decided to give it a go, at least the sheets and bathroom were clean. "So why not, we've put up with worse"!!! (T [View Full Entry]

Today I rode to Niagara Falls, and stayed on the Canadian side. From what I hear it is much nicer on the Canadian side. The falls were pretty cool, and I had someone take a picture of me with the falls in the background just to prove I was there. I can put up with fighting crowds for a little while, but after a couple hours I have usually had enough. I heard the Niagara Parkway up to Niagara on the Lake was a nice ride, so I rode around that area for a while. And when I left and started [View Full Entry]

Me

A very special meeting was taking place in Toronto! My mum, sister & nephew were coming across from Belfast to spend some time with us in Canada & the United States. I was very excited to be seeing my family after ten months of travelling. After a short wait at arrivals, the three of them came through the shiny white doors of the gate at terminal one in Toronto International Airport and a pack of wild horses couldn’t hold me back. Hugs from your mum truly are priceless! Travel to the airport for Mike & I involved getting two trams, two [View Full Entry]

Impressive, incredibly powerful and majestic. Took the Maid Of The Mist tour under the falls to start. On seeing the American falls, I couldn't help but feel a pang of disapointment as it wasn't half as impressive as Igaussu. Not sure anything ever will be. The huge number of people we shared the experience with didn't help much. I grew quickly intollerent of every one getting in my way. On travelling further up the river to the Horseshoe falls, I remembered why I was there and quickly forgot Iguassu for that momment at least. Really cool, massive volumes of water thundering [View Full Entry]
