Well as you know we made it through Turkish customs (just!) and we are in our last country before heading home to Australia with our 1500 photographs. Dont worry, we will be having a slide night when we get back so you can see all of them and nobody will have to miss out! We crossed the border from Syria to Turkey near Antakya so this was our first stop in Turkey. We have really noticed the difference between the Middle East (much dustier, drier and not very much green) and Turkey (mountainous, green and much cooler). As an aside we [View Full Entry]

Welcome to Syria

Middle East » Syria » South » Damascus
Greetings Apologies for the delay in blogging but we have had trouble finding a decent computer to use! The title to this entry comes from the lovely experience we had in Syria of every single person we met saying 'Welcome' to us. This is on the street, in shops, on buses, EVERYWHERE. We dont know if the government issues instructions for their people to say this to obvious foreigners or if it is spontaneous but whatever the reason it felt lovely and genuine and we really loved Syria. Our arrival however was a little inauspicous. We had arranged a private car [View Full Entry]

The biggest nouria in the world!

Greetings!!!! Well we finally left Luxor on an overnight 16 hour bus up the Red Sea coast, crossing the Suez canal and down the Sinai Penninsular to Sharm El Sheikh. Not exactly luxurious but hey it got us there eventually! Sharm as the locals call it is basically Las Vegas by the Red Sea - an inexplicable metropolis emerging from the surrounding desert. Although in Sharm's case once you have seen the water it is a bit more understandable why we are all there! The weather was beautiful and warm and Sharm is much less dusty than the rest of Egypt. The next chapter

Africa » Egypt » Upper Egypt » Aswan
Hello everyone! Well it has only been five days since our last entry but we have crammed so much into that time that we are not quite sure where to start! Apologies in advance for the excessive length. Those reading at work may need to do it in stages! This entry is being written from the Nefertiti Hotel roof terrace in central east bank Luxor. Our hotel is two streets back from the Nile and we have views over to the West Bank of the Nile (to the Valley of the kings and queens) and more immediately to the avenue of [View Full Entry]

Ahlan wa sahlan! Welcome to the first chapter of our Middle Eastern Adventure. We are writing this entry in a little internet 'cafe' (all internet no cafe) in the Downtown area of Cairo. We have found ourselves with four hours to kill before we board our overnight sleeper train to Aswan and thought it was the perfect time to update you on our adventures so far. Ev has been dispatched to fetch cold drinks because we are suffering from mild heat stroke after spending the day roaming the desert playing "spotto pyramid"! Our taxi driver Nasser turned up bright and early [View Full Entry]

After hearing such great things about the Barrington Tops wilderness area we decided it was the place to work off some of our Christmas indulgences with some bush walking and camping. The 27th of December 2007 dawned bright and sunny - a welcome relief after the weeks of rain and overcast dull skies that Sydney has been suffering under. With our cat safely locked in the house with many bowls of water and with his Aunt and Uncle booked to come and visit for feeding and cuddles during our absence we packed the car and headed out of the city. The [View Full Entry]

Bom dia (Gīday in portuguese) It has been a fairly adventurous week since my last communication and this has literally been the first chance I have had to be near an internet source. After I left you all in Buenos Aires with its European sophistication and great steaks, Ev and I headed north to the border town of Puerto Iguacu. This town is the gateway to the Argentinian side of the famous Iguacu falls. Reading in the lonely planet that they are the largest set of falls in the world and made up of 275 separate drops, did not prepare me [View Full Entry]

Greetings friends and family Well i always thought donīt cry for me Argentina was a bit of a cliche but i feel justified mentioning it as i type this in an internet cafe in down town buenos aires after visiting Eva peronīs grave and standing under the balcony of the Casa rosada (pink palace) where she used to excite the masses with her glamorous speeches. BA is a mix of decaying turn of the century architectural gems and bustling enterprise. it is filled with a mixture of hope and sadness and this week is absolutely papered in election material for the [View Full Entry]
