Bob and I arrived in Newfoundland on Sunday, June 17..The ferry was about a 9 hour trip and we were able to keep up with the fantastic finish of the U.S. Open during the trip. We spent the night and took off the next morning for Gros Morne National Park. What a beauty it is!! There were no cars on the highway so it is like we are the only people here. Bob has fished some but is planning alot more and I plan to salmon fish with him on our next stop...Grand Falls-Windsor. Millie was pretty sick when we left but is feeling herself, I think. She is on antibiotics for the trip and Jimmy Hunter is mailing some additional medicine and I just hope it gets here before Wednesday when we are scheduled to ... read more

Harold and I are getting ready for a week-long trip which will take us 2500 miles north and east of home to Newfoundland (NL), Canada. We're going to help the Newfoundlanders celebrate the 1008th anniversary of the Vikings walking on their shores at L'Anse aux Meadows, a Canadian. Other highlights include Gros Morne National Park, whale watching, birding and if we're lucky we'll see a few icebergs. Leaving the planning to the experts, we'll join a tour, offered by Wildlands Tours. On June 22 we fly from Green Bay to Detroit to Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Northwest, and after a 4 hour layover we'll finally fly to Deer Lake, NL, via Air Canada. From Deer Lake, the tour company transports us north about 30 miles to Gros Morne National Park, a UN World Heritage Site, where ... read more

Hello :) I was having problems publishing this blog so if you've had ten billion emails I apologise. If you haven't, well here you go!!!! It's amazing how in the space of a few short days you can be on one side of Canada, then the other, then the other and then the other. The life of a flight attendant I suppose. This time however, it was a mix of business and pleasure. A work trip saw me swerve across the country ending up in St John's, Newfoundland. Newfoundland is full of history and has has a flair to it's European roots. Pubs abound and the people are happy and friendly. I had enough time here to head out for a walk to Signal Hill. A well known sight in St Johns. The hill is part ... read more

A few days of Toronto air was enough for me, so it was time for some fresh air in the most easterly part of Canada, Newfoundland which is located off the mainland on it's own little island. Newfoundland is gorgeous in the fall, better than anywhere else I've been like say the lame Alberta fall which is basically pine and stick trees! So my first stop was St. John's which is pretty much the most easterly part of Canada you can go. Caught up with an old friend from Jasper, went to the famous George Street which has the most bars per capita than anywhere else in North America. Can't say I remember much but I did manage to get 'screeched in'. This procedure involves having a shot of Newfoundland Rum, reciting an irish like ... read more

Hurricane Chantal blustered through as we started our 11th day of cycling...needless to say "some" of us enjoyed the excuse of a major storm, flooding, and state of emergency in many towns in order to take a taxi for our very last 50km ride into St John's. I was looking forwards to those 7501100km tail winds...but apparently they can be unsafe. I said goodbye to this fascinating land that has a carnivorous plant for its provincial "flower" (flower ?) and headed back to Victoria.... read more

Ferryland lighthouse is located on a beautiful point with whales swimming along the shore, gulls squacking and terns cavorting. You can order tea, treats, lunch etc in this old renovated lighthouse then head down to find your perfect picnic spot. The lighthouse gives you a blanket to sit on and a flag so they can find you. A healthy youth scours the land to find your flag and delivers the food to you wherever you may be. The tasty food is served in a wicker picnic basket and everything is homemade and organic. ... read more
