Vickie and Bob

Bob and I "ran away from home" last summer and spent 2 1/2 months in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, etc. We loved it so much that we will go again this summer and will concentrate on Newfoundland. It was a "Pop-Up" escape for us and total relaxation....other than Bob having to set up the camper.

OK, Folks...The most exciting adventure of this trip was a whale watch in a small boat and just enjoy the pictures that we were able to get!!! This last stop has been the most beautiful and I'll include a few pictures of our view. Really special,. We leave here on Saturday morning, the 12th, and will be back in Richmond on the 27th. We came to the St. John's area on Sunday and have really enjoyed it. It is built on the sides of mountains and the houses are kind of "stacked" up. The historic downtown area is pretty cool but Bob and I both felt it wasn't a very clean city...lots of graffiti and crazy looking kids (like Picadilly Square in London) around. You can go up to Signal Hill and that is where the first trans-Atlantic signal was heard in 1904, I think. Anyway, we stayed there for 3 days and the last day was the BEST!! We had so much rain and dreary weather in Grand Falls--Windsor and that last day we woke up to a beautiful and sunny day. We did a drive called the Baccalieu Trail which took about all day. It is a ... read more

We are in Grand Falls--Windsor for this week and are driving up to Twillingate today...don't you love that name?? Last night was sooooo cold and we broke out the electric blanket and were we glad we had it!! This is Salmon Country and there are some Interpretive Centers which are fascinating and they have biologists staffing them who tell you all about how they are keeping the salmon population alive and well. There are underground ponds holding the salmon who get upstream to them until they are ready to head upstream further to spawn. Bob has made many friends and he is going to the Salmon Center each morning and has spent alot of time talking about the "Fishing Friends" done through the school system. (He can't quite get past his school influences!!! He would love ... read more

Bob and I arrived in Newfoundland on Sunday, June 17..The ferry was about a 9 hour trip and we were able to keep up with the fantastic finish of the U.S. Open during the trip. We spent the night and took off the next morning for Gros Morne National Park. What a beauty it is!! There were no cars on the highway so it is like we are the only people here. Bob has fished some but is planning alot more and I plan to salmon fish with him on our next stop...Grand Falls-Windsor. Millie was pretty sick when we left but is feeling herself, I think. She is on antibiotics for the trip and Jimmy Hunter is mailing some additional medicine and I just hope it gets here before Wednesday when we are scheduled to ... read more

Pop Up Escape #2 Now, it is time for the Pop-Up Escape #2 and we are heading out to go to Newfoundland...all last year, people said you needed to do a separate trip to that country so that it what is on the schedule. We have purchased a new electric blanket and we will need it, I'm sure. I'll hopefully keep a running map so you can see where we are and you can just delete if you don't want to participate or look at any pictures. I believe this blog idea will work better than the way I did it last year. When you click on the link below and it opens, I would put it in your favorites so that it will be easy for you to check the blog. When it opens, click ... read more
