Time for another update of all the goings on here in Vancouver. There is really only one observation to make this time and that is that Canadian television is really quite average. Although we have only had a tv a day or so I must say that I haven't been all that impressed. Unfortunately we are poor travellers so are unable to splash out on ritzy Cable TV (someone was telling me there is up to 800 channels available, not sure how true that is) so we can only get a handful of channels. We haven't been able to fully work out whats what on each channel yet but all we've seen so far is cheap American shows like "Wheel of Fortune" and "Just for Laughs", as well as ads every 5 minutes. One quality ... read more

Cross Canada TripMark Jones After 22 days, approximately 5000km, 2 car problems, 4 dodgey hotel rooms, 5 provinces (aka states) and 10,000 pictures later we arrive in Vancouver! We have made it across Canada! But let us fill you in on the trip that was……! It took us 3 days to get out of Ontario itself! However the drive around Lake Superior, which is absolutely giant and forms a boarder between Canada and the US for a large part of Ontario, was spectacular. It is hard to believe it is a lake, as when you look out you cannot see the end in sight. We wanted to do some walks around the area, but being silly Australians we didn’t realize that most of them were closed off, due to that mysterious thing called snow! Before leaving ... read more

Hi Nackers, Well what a road trip so far. We have made it 5,000 km across Canada and stopped at every major centre across the way. We have hunted bears in northern Ontario, been the toast of the town at the Juno awards in Saskatoon, climbed the highest peaks of the Rockies, partied hard in Whistler, but still no sign of an Canadian with half a cricket brain (Plenty of Aussies in Whistler though). The first point of call was the Lake Superior provincial park, which is known for Bears and Moose. Beefie would not shut up insisting on singing that lame "were going on a bear hunt" song. Considering it was still the tail end of winter our chance of actually seeing one was about as good as England’s chances in the World Cup. ... read more

After being back in Canada for almost a month now, I've decided to conclude my travels with this final blog. My last blog had me in Chiang Mai waiting on a bus ride to Pai. The day after I posted that blog I got on the bus and made my way up to the renowned hippy spot, Pai. The bus ride was intense, with twisting corners and blind passes, and I can say that the second half of the trip was much worse than the first, maybe due to the greasy plate of Pai Thai I indulged in at the halfway point. I was expecting a lot out of Pai I think, maybe because of it's reputation for being an old hippy community. However, unbeknown to those reading my blogs, my travellers insurance had run out ... read more

Port Angeles - Victoria This morning before leaving Port Angeles for Canada was quite interesting. K.C. called at 6:15 to make sure we were up in time to make our ferry and to let us know coffee was ready. I don't drink coffee but did forget to leave a wake up call so it was very nice of her to make sure we met our other travel pans. K.C also gave us water bottles to take with us so we didn't have to buy them today. She also gave us the name of the tourism guy and told us to go talk to him and gave us food places in Canada to make sure we went to. So from there we walked the 4 blocks to the ferry. The ferry was very much like the one ... read more

So, while Canada has a lot to offer in addition to Squamish, I am faced with a perpetual challenge. When the sun is out and the rock is dry, how am I ever going to get out and see other parts of Canada? Of course other travel and exploration could happen when it is raining, but there are problems with this. The weather changes so quickly here, that you cannot believe the forecast. This means that we do not commit to anything else on a weekend and plan to go climbing, unless it is raining when we wake up. When it is raining, we are then left without an alternative plan, because we could not conceive of not climbing. (Sorry for the double negative there, grammar police, teachers and soon to be ex-teachers - ie ... read more

Good times North America » Canada » British Columbia By Sazzle DazzleApril 22nd 2007 I see no reason to write about the bad times as that is something that I will only ever to relate to so instead I will tell you about the good times. Christian, Lisa and I were inseperable during my 12 day stay at the ranch, we ate together, we worked together, we played together and rode together. These two ended up becoming an 'item' during my stay but never made me feel unwanted. All of these photos are of us having the most amazing times, the good and the bad balanced each other out in the beginning but during my last 3 days the bad were really bad. I have never doubted myself, I... read more

I wanted to say thank you to all of you for your loyalty and love and kindness over the years. We are on our way back to Victoria, but only for a week. Rod has been offered his position back in Smithers again and it is a really good opportunity for him. There is alot of room for growth and advancement in his job in Smithers that he can't get anywhere else. It is the best place for us to be at the moment. I need a home, and I need to live with my husband. It's been too hard these last couple of years not having a permenant place to live. I did grow to love Smithers last summer and am also excited for a little change. It will be exciting. All of our ... read more
