Hey everyone, Attached are a few photos of our quick trip up to Whistler this thanksgiving long weekend! We hired a car and headed off early Saturday morning stopping of at Horseshoe Bay, Squamish, and a few other interesting places along the way. It was a beautiful drive on a very misty, cold, drizzly morning. The road hugs the coast for much of the drive untill you head into the mountains - so the views are amazing. We mastered the skill of driving on the 'wrong' side of the road!! not easy after years of driving on the left!!! Whistler was absolutely beautiful and our photos don't do it justice, a beautiful village with lots of places to eat, shop and drink. Only snow at this time of year was up the top of the mountain but still ... read more

8th, 9th, 10th October - Thanksgiving weekend Kat text me and asked me if I wanted to go up to Whistler as she had a ride up there. Thought it would be cool to see the town before all the snow came. The drive up there was amazing... You drive along the waters edge. It will be so awesome when there is more snow. Kat went on a hike so I met up with Debbie, Kendall, Laura and Peter who were all staying down there in a backpackers for the weekend. Whistler was very cute. A classic snow town! It was a lot bigger then I thought. We spent the day looking around the shops. There was a massive sale on called the Turkey sale (its Thanksgiving). Everything from last season was hugely discounted and new ... read more

4th day of mini-vacation in Whistler, posh ski-resort 2 hours out of Vancouver. Too tired to get out of bed at check-out time this morning and thought I heard someone barfing in the girl’s bathroom next door, so a good excuse to pull covers over my head and spend another day in solitude of Whistler Hostel (55 mins out of the village, on a big lake). I have a bizarrely narrow bed and slippery green canvas mattress, so spent most of the night tangled in sheets and almost sliding onto the floor. Eventually got up at 12.40 and lied to English James when he took the piss that I’d already spent two and a half hours writing a screenplay upstairs in my bedroom, thank you very much. Don’t want him to think I’m an idle swine ... read more

A word of advice - never, never let four people, all with no sense of direction, dismal navigational/ organisational skills, clashing opinions and armed with poorly-drawn tourist maps (boasting those dreaded words, 'not to scale'), guide you on any expedition, unless you have a great deal of patience and no intention of ever seeing your intended destination :-). Let me explain... On this fine, sunny day, we had decided to rent a car and explore the Garibaldi region (north of Vancouver) - more specifically, to hike 'Brandywine Meadows'. We had chosen this particular hike somewhat arbitrarily, largely based on the alluring promise of 'meadows' mentioned in its title. So off we drove, winding north along the Sea to Sky Highway, a scenic route from Vancouver to Whistler that, for a large part, hugs the coastline, with ... read more

Nat and I managed to leave some of our stuff in storage so as to not have to cart it all around, I guess I'll try and post it when I get back to Vancouver if I can't be sure I will be allowed the second suitcase to Egypt.... We missed breakfast as we slept in for awhile, since we didn't have to leave Vancouver until 11.30am!! it was so bizzare after the past two months of regimented 7.45am departures. The new contiki crew of 46 are a rowdy bunch, but it seems like it is going to be a fun group. Our tour manager, Darren is nice and the bus driver 'The Chad' is a little odd... but more sheltered than anything from what I can tell. Our tour guide loves pretty much the same ... read more

Just as I was getting over my adventure poisoning from our road trip it was time to pack our bags again as we were off to the Sunshine Coast for more excitement - this time of the water variety. The weather was turning on a show that Kieth Martin would have been proud of and once everyone finished work on Friday the cars were packed and we were off. After an awesome drive - ferry - drive combo we arrived and settled in for the night. Magic is the only word I can use to describe the location. Lake frontage and surrounded by forest. Highlights of the weekend were: The awesome weather (we actually saw the sun and the temp got over 25 deg C). Good thing we all had sunnies as there were some white ... read more

After a stop over in LA I arrived in Vancouver where - following a delay of around 1 hour waiting for my bags - I was met at the airport by Jason, a mate from Uni. We then got the bus to Whistler where he lives and on the way saw some incredibe scenery. Spent the next week or so in Whistler where we did some biking (cross country and down hill), skiing, tennis and general tourist stuff. Also went on a Contiki tour canoe trip which was great evern though it was about 10 deg and raining. The punters werent prepared very well and some went for a swim but all had a great time. Got to meet lots of great people through Jason which was fantastic and made some contacts that could come in ... read more

On Friday we drove from Big White down to Vancouver then up to Whistler. We stayed in an awesome condo in the middle of the village, about a 3 minute walk from the gondolas that go up the mountain. We even managed to pickup free internet on Sean's laptop from one of the nearby hotels. While we were there they had the Ski and Snowboard Festival in full swing, it was such a change from whole family focus they had a Big White. There was a huge stage set up where they had bands and music in the afternoons and at night. On Saturday night they had a heap of hip hop playing with really good MCs and DJs. There were a bunch of fire twirlers and break dancers on another stage as well. Sunday was ... read more
