Uhhhh Ahhhh Uhhhh
New Underwear Please...
Just as I was getting over my adventure poisoning from our road trip it was time to pack our bags again as we were off to the Sunshine Coast for more excitement - this time of the water variety.
The weather was turning on a show that Kieth Martin would have been proud of and once everyone finished work on Friday the cars were packed and we were off. After an awesome drive - ferry - drive combo we arrived and settled in for the night.
Magic is the only word I can use to describe the location. Lake frontage and surrounded by forest.
Highlights of the weekend were:
The awesome weather (we actually saw the sun and the temp got over 25 deg C). Good thing we all had sunnies as there were some white bodies on display while the “fleuro tan” was replaced by a real one.
Wake boarding and biscuit riding. Ive always wanted to wakeboard and I loved it! Biscuit was awesome too - it was pretty much hold on to the big tube and the boat just gets faster until you get thrown off. Loads of big air, even bigger spills
and sore bodies for the next few days!
Cliff jumping and the MASSIVE rope swing - that thing was huge, I had time to tie my shoe laces on the way to the down…
The great crew we had and hospitality of the family we were staying with - you rock Jody!
Looking for shooting stars while in the spa, then jumping in the cold lake and getting back into the spa.
The ferry ride through the sounds.
White Men Can Jump...
After the weekend in the water but before my bruising and swelling had gone it was decided that we would go bungee jumping - you beauty!
$100 and 160ft later i had straightened out the kinks in my back from the weekend of water activity. Awsome stuff - a bridge over a large basalt gorge and rapids at the bottom.
A few days later I took Corey's (Jason and I have been staying with Corey) sister and mum down a local river in a canoe and we saw a large black bear walking through the golf course trying to get into a rubbish bin. All bins here are armoured,
cemented to the ground and have latches on them for this reason!
Following this Corey took us around the golf couse he works at in buggies and we saw a bear with 2 cubs from about 15m away which was great.
Jason eyes glazed over when he got behind the wheel of the cart and we were soon sideways at every corner. He even managed to get it up on 2 wheels at one stage...still not as extreme as Bev's tree dodging efforts at Bennos bucks show!
On The Move Again
Being time to move on and start the next chapter of the journey I got the bus to Vancouver with my newly acquired 2nd hand bike and booked into the Cambie Hotel, which is located on the edge of a pretty rough area.
“Yeh, you’re in the ghetto” I was told by the people in the bus station…
Lots of street people around and very alternative - piercing, tattoos, funky clothes etc. generally a great vibe and cool place to hang out.
Over the next week I managed to spend close to $2000 on equipment for my planned kayak-bike trip up
north and ate lots of sushi and Chinese which was dirt cheap - awesome!
Booked the bus for my 32hr ride north to Hay River and I was off - arctic wilderness here we come.
