Ever since arriving in Alberta, I have wanted to get a feel of the wild West. I dreamed of meeting the small town prairie feeling. I found it today! We began the day saying goodbye to our pretty little campsite at Bow Valley before heading South into cattle country. Our plan was to visit Bar-U Ranch, which is a Canadian historical site displaying the life of actual cowboys. But having a bit of a drive ahead of us, we began the day driving towards Bragg Creek. Bragg Creek I can't say much about this town, since we only stopped at the shopping centre. However, I really liked what I saw. The place was build with a very Western touch and has escaped the building boom thus far. There were no warehouse buildings and no cheap fast ... read more
I made it! Booyah. We're here just outside of Calgary, just finishing our training week. How freaking awesome is it to see the mountains again. Day after tomorrow, we leave towards Calgary, where we'll stay for the weekend. After that, who knows. I applied for a Katimavik Project Leader position on the East Coast for after the tour. The interview went really well, I feel like I have the job. Since Im also male, Ive heard that I have a really good chance of getting hired, even if I wasnt that qualified. However, Im exceptionally qualified... However, Im not sure if sitting on the east coast for 11 months with a group of Katimavik participants is what Im interested in.. the money is really good, but there's so much else to explore!! Until next time, Tyler ... read more
Ok so you've seen the photo of me wearing a dress already so I better explain myself. One of Tina's friends Erika decided that for her birthday she would have a themed party. Unfortunately for me, and the other guys that went, she chose 'ball dresses'. Or if you look at it from my perspective 'bawl dresses', because I cried when I heard what I had to wear. The day of the party we went to a huge second hand store and picked out our outfits. Taking a selection of dresses into the changing rooms is not my proudest moment. As I sat on the couch at home in my blue outfit, with my legs crossed to conceal my bits, I had visions of turning up at the party and being the only guy in a ... read more

Every town in Alberta has their own little 'fair' at sometime throughout the warmer months. Today we went to the main day of "Bragg Creek Days", the celebration the small town of Bragg Creek hosts. There was a breakfast of pancakes, sausages, hash browns and juice, lots of little farmers market stalls selling bits and pieces, amusement and games for the kiddies, live entertainment by various singing groups and such, and a parade! Ok, so it was no Stampede Parade, but it was quite entertaining! The people on the floats throw lollies out to the crowd, and although it didnt go for very long, there were lots of little groups in it, which is excellent considering the size of the town! After some brekky, the parade and a look around, we went back home to escape ... read more

Published: July 21st 2006North America » Canada » Alberta » Bragg CreekAnother lazy day came and went, where all we really did was go for an attempted swim in the creek. I say attempted because it was FREAKIN FREEZING and only Johnathan was brave enough to go all the way in. Although, I (Kat) did go in to my thighs and splash a little! A family meeting that night and we made a list of all the things we were going to do in the next week or so. Very exciting! But the next day was lazy again, as the parents went to work and us kids bummed around on the couch. Eventually it was too much and we had to get out and do something. So we drove in to town to see a movie. And when i say drove... i mean US AUSSIES DID! See, ... read more
Bragg Creek, July 21-23, 2005 We arrived in Bragg Creek mid-afternoon on Thursday, July 21. Things are incredibly green here after all the rain Alberta has had this year, and the mosquito population has undergone quite an explosion. I believe they are even denser here than they were in northern BC, which is really saying something. Katherine was still knitting furiously on the sweater which was to form part of her birthday present to Rebecca (yes, she finished the knitting on time, though it was only basted together until Friday, when she got time to finish sewing the pieces together properly), as members of the extended family and friends began to arrive in preparation for the surprise party. Surprisingly, it did end up being a big surprise for Becca. All the cars had been cleverly hidden ... read more
