Dominic's entry: Hello! Dominic here. I hope you have all enjoyed reading Andrea's travels and news as much as I have. It has been a pleasure reading about all of the adventures which we have had together and the latest chapter in our new age travels is sure to be just as fun. When Andrea and I sat down with my parents a couple of months ago, to tell them that we were moving out to Dubai, we knew that Justin was considering a move to the Middle East. Shortly after Andrea randomly ended up at the Emirates interview, Justin found an opportunity to apply his communications skills and experience in a new role in Abu Dhabi. We had not seen each other for about a year, and luckily we both had meetings in town at ... read more

I haven’t got time at the moment to go through the dozens of photos I took in Thailand last week, most of them probably breech the guidelines set by this travel blog site anyway and I don’t want to be banned again, but in the meantime here is another morsel from Abu Dhabi. They really do cater for all tastes here, you want Pizza? Curry? Lebanese? Thai? Philipino? Nepalese? Fresh Baguettes? German Sausage? Absolutely no problem, downtown AUH has got it all. Sick of all the hassle of chewing? Sugar rotting your teeth? Well then get yourself down to Madinat Zayed and get some Butt Sweet goodness in you! Naturally I have thought up a load of orifice related establishments, but this is neither the time nor the place. Urethra Franklin Mint. There. I’ve said it ... read more

As you have seen here before, the building next to us is being demolished, and people still want to park right next to the plummeting steel weight of doom that they are using to smash the old block o' flats. They have had to start issuing very stern warnings and disclaimers, some of which are even understandable. Unbelievably some random people have left messages on this blog saying that it is cruel to make fun of the bad spelling. Well if the Gideons started leaving something useful in hotel rooms like dictionaries instead of Bibles then I wouldn’t have this sort of material to post would I? If you are that bothered start up a petition to the government of Gidea and leave me alone. Next thing you know it will be cruel to laugh at ... read more

The only thing Abu Dhabi lacked on a Friday afternoon was nine Hawk aircraft flying inches apart from each other in a stunning aerobatic display. Luckily the Red Arrows were in town and gave us a half hour of Britain’s finest showing people how to really fly over the Corniche. Anyone who has ever seen me reverse park knows that I have got precision vehicle manoeuvring skills, so I am fully qualified to assess these boys, and yes, they are quite good. Although how hard can it be? It’s only like driving, but with an “up/down” component, and you don’t even have to worry about hitting the curb or taxis cutting you up. Once I’ve seen the Red Arrows back a Land Cruiser in the spot between the fire hydrant and the badly parked BMW, with ... read more

You know, one of the things I miss about England is seeing skips where they should be, i.e. on the ground. There are only two places skips should be, blocking your driveway so that you have to park half way down the road and your neighbours can surreptitiously fill it with old mattresses and 3 year old Christmas trees in the night, or badly secured on an overloaded skip wagon going down the A13 at 80 mph with the driver arguing with his wife on his mobile phone, oblivious to the shower of bricks and rubble that is flying off the back of his load of poorly concealed asbestos. If I were to ring up "AAA Skip Hire" on Canvey and ask for a skip to be delivered to the 6th floor I'd be called something ... read more

Some of you that have visited this site will be aware of Kathryn and Scott's world trip. You can see their blog here: www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Scottandkat/ They've been kyacking, surfing, biking, rope laddering and bouncing along on giant inflatable penguins all across South East Asia. At present are driving around Australia in a van and generally laughing their a*ses off. They have been keeping a pretty sweet jounal of it all which makes better reading than a lot of travel guides. But here is the rub - do they bring you mildly amusing shaped vegetables? No they do not. Sorry Scott and Kat, but untill you can come up a nutsackier potato, your blog will be getting less hits than the average Eurovision Song Contest winner. This my friends is what the internet is REALLY about. ... read more

Sister J very generously took us to afternoon tea at the Emirates Palace Hotel, a seven star palace of a place at the end of the Corniche. If you walk in off the street and want a single room for the night it will set you back about 600 quid. If you decide you would prefer a Presidential Suite and make the most of the 24hr butler service, 61"plasma screen in every room, "free" beverages etc... you are looking at shelling out about 10,000 pounds per night. As mere diners we couldn't see a fraction of the place but what we did see was quite flash. If anything, the photos don't really show the scale of it.... read more

Cost of entry to the Zoo? 2 Dirhams (30p) Unfortunately we were denied access to the animal enclosures so I could not "weigh" the animals by trying to push them over. Added a couple of shots of the sweet water ride at the Jabel Hafeet Hotel. I would love to see a few nervous, crying children go round on it while encouraging parents shout things like "NO! STAY IN THE CAR! DO NOT GET OUT!" Sweet. UPDATE - 15.09.08 This blog post is by far the most viewed of mine, it's had over 17,000 viewings in 30 months - over 550 hits per month. If you are reading this, could you please drop me a quick message to let me know why you came to be looking at it. Thanks, Alan... read more
