Turkey went up another notch! Hello from Cesme, a small village known for windsurfing and gum trees on the Aegean Sea! I flew into Izmir, and had a really funny travel day - Bon and I had been up all night since we had to go to the airport at 6a, so I arrived in the new city bleary eyed, but excited! As soon as i got on the plane, I got out my two favorite travel accessories: my eye/sleeping mask and pillow! I slept the entire way there and woke up surrounded by mountains and another crazy town! Ufuk had hooked me up with the information and reservations, and sure enough, when I got to Izmir, the Havas bus was there for me! They dumped me at a random spot and told a taxi to ... read more

It was an early mornıng for me as I set out to explore Istanbul. My fırst stop was the set of Aladın: I mean, St Sophıa, buılt durıng the Roman era ın the 6th Century. It ıs framed ın mosaıcs and ıncludes glıtterıng portraıts of empoerors and empresses and arch ways lıke see ın teh Dısney movıe Aladın. That ıs what my fırst ımpressıon was! The church domonates the skylıne of old Istanbul. Next I vısıted the Blue Mosque. If you dıdn’t know I am ın a Muslım country. Also, a country that boarder’s Iraq (thıs ıs as close as I want to get to Iraq). However, thıs country ıs very supportıve of the U.S. One need only look at the massıve securıty protocols ınplace at my hotel; armed guards, pop-up vehıcle ınhıbıtors and full vehıcle ... read more

Antalya December 7 - 9, 2006 Thursday We arrived at the Antalya bus station about 5:30pm. There may have been a servis, a smaller bus that would take us closer to the city center, but we were stupid enough not to check. We ended up waiting for a bus to the gate of the old city for about 20 minutes when, with darkness quickly falling, we gave up and took a cab for 12 Turkish Lira ($10). After getting a room among the narrow streets of the old city we walked to a nearby park high above the crashing waves, able to see nothing but lights on the other side of the bay. Antalya was built up from a natural harbor and for much of the year has a mild climate that suits beachgoers and cruise ... read more

Sultanahmet Camii, or more commonly known as the Blue Mosque to the tourists, is probably the most photographed mosque in the world. It earns the nickname of Blue Mosque from the Iznik tilework decorating its interior. The Blue Mosque was built between 1609 to 1616 under the commission of Sultan Ahmet I. It is now one of the most famous religious buildings existing today. Anyone who has been to Istanbul dare not to miss this must visit place there. A building in symmetry must be photographed symmetrically, as Islamic architecture emphasises on symmetry. A closer look at the symmetrically arranged building features. img=http://i72.photobucket.com/alb... read more

Not the best pıctures as my camera memory card ıs full so we used the camera that I cannot download photos from. You wıll all see them when we get home. We left Selcuk and took a long and wındey bus trıp throught the mountaıns to the medıterranean sea and fethıye. Just as we arrıved ın town the mother of all storms hıt us and we spent the best 10 bucks of the trıp on a cab to the hotel. I mean ıt was 5:00 pm and totally dark because of the clouds. The power went out just as we got to the hotel too. It only lasted for an hour or so then we had a nıce dınner ın town. The next day we set out on our three day tour on a gullett boat. ... read more

October 7 I’m not entirely sure where I left off with my adventures but I’ll continue a bit with Turkey. My last days in Turkey consisted of taking a boat tour on the Bosporus, going to a large spice market, and touring another Ottoman palace. I realize that Turkey isn’t that foreign but it’s the most exotic place I’ve been in my life so far. It’s in an interesting position because one side borders the western world and the other side borders only third world countries that the US is attacking. Even though it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the EU the other side of Turkey’s border has almost no political or economic stability. Another unfamiliar aspect of Turkey was that it was the first Muslim country I’ve visited. Of course Turkey ... read more

Day 13 Nıght at Attıla's - Australıan / Turkısh guy runnıng a backğacker hostel wıth atmosphere pool bar and pool table. Dancıng and pool competıtıon and nıght tıme swımmıng - excellent. Day 14 Pamukkale Sprıngs cascade down the mountaın leavıng a whıte crusty residue that makes the hıllsıde look snow covered. ı paddled ın the steeam and dıdn't fınd out untıl too late that I could have walked down to a larger pool or up to the baths. Some other lakes we passed has the same greeny grey colour and whıte encrusted egdes all surrounded by craggy mountaıns and putty coloured soıl.
