Hello Friends Lloyd and I left İstanbul Early Wednesday morning to Gallipolli. A battle ground where Australia and New Zealand fought the Turks in WWI. It was a touching story of how the Australians and the Turks realized they were equals and became friends and stopped fıghting after 250.000 people died...WOW We then headed to Troy for an hour and took a tour of the town. Nıne dıfferent Troys exısted wıthın a 3000 year tıme span. Thıs is supposedly the site of where the famous battle took place. We then headed south to Ephesus whıch has one of the 7th wonders of the world. Unfortunately it isnt there anymore. But None the less it was stıll cool to llok at the rocks and what not. Mother Marry Supposedly spent her last years in Ephesus as well ... read more

Up early for my 4 day cruise around the coast of Turkey. I walked down to the Olympos yachting office and waited with some others to walk down to the harbour to board our boat. Our captain came into the office with a bandana, a gold ringed earring and a missing hand, all that was missing was a parrot on his shoulder. Thinking he could be joking about the missing hand, he wasn't. We walked down to his Gulet Mr Hook I and net up with the other people on board. There was 17 plus 4 crew on board. 6 Australian, 2 Czechs, 2 New Zealanders, 2 Spanish, 2 Turkish, 1 Brazilian, 1 American and 1 English of course! Captain Hook was a little sleazy. He always wanted to be the centre of attention and spent ... read more

While waiting for the Iranian visa, I visited the small town of Selcuk in west Turkey. It is better known for its nearest archeological sight, Ephesus. I visited Ephesus for one day, but I also experienced Selcuk itself to be a nice place. In Selcuk I also had the possibility to upload some pictures from all the recent places I have been. I will also try to extend the correspondıng blogs a bit. But first about Selcuk. It is about a 10h busride away from Istanbul. It's not situated directly at the coast but some kilometers from the sea between many hills. The hills are partly covered by pine forest, especially at the coast and around Selcuk the lowlands have many peach and tomato plantations. Ephesus is about 2.5 km away from Selcuk, and you can ... read more

2 Hours away from Goycegiz is Fethiye, my rest stop before I go on a Blue Cruise to Olympos. My pension this time was the Ferah Pension. On a rooftop dorm overlooking the cool harbour. 2 of the Aussie girls are also here. I've stayed in the same places as them in Canakkale, Goycegiz and now here. "You are not a stalker pabloq, you are definitely not a stalker". Soon as I arrive I realise that Arsenal are playing Chelsea this afternoon, so the rush to find a bar with the match is on. I didn't have to look too far because a English guy could see the worried look on my face and told me "It's full of Chelsea up there son" SO? I go on upstairs and settle in with a beer and in ... read more

Off to the otogar in Selcuk for a 4 and a half hour bus ride to Göycegiz (pronounced Guy Cheese) I was advised to come here by the owner of the Kiwi Pension, Alison. Lets hope it lives up expectation! After a non eventful bus ride with a rest stop at a 3 Michelin star restaurant (It seemed like it with the prices), I just settled with a ice cream. I arrived at the Göycegiz otogar and got a minibus to the Tango Pension. It's a little dearer than the other places I have stayed in rural Turkey, but I have a en suite room, hammocks on tap and free cycle hire. Watch out Göycegiz! Although there are no squeaky things to squeak a la Berlin :-(. Checking out the town by bike is easier than ... read more

I left Çanakkale almost immediately from my superb tour of Gallipoli and found myself sitting next to the minibus driver in the front center seat. No legroom and the glare of super strong beams from oncoming cars, for the next 6 hours. Yay. Sitting on the other side of me was a Aussie guy who also had a iPod. I know it is hard to believe, but he had a even worse music collection than me. I thought being a aussie meant he would have some strange Australian rock and some grunge. His first track he put on was Hanson's "Mmm Bop". I had my iPod on until the battery ran out. After that I put my shades on and tried to sleep to Selçuk for the last 2 hours or so. I kept getting woken ... read more

My Aiesec traineeship terminates in a few weeks and before my big departure, Waldo, Fatma, Umut and I have decided to go on a holiday together. Umut's got some friends living in Izmir, so we've decided that it's the perfect holiday destination to wrap up a great year :). And indeed Izmir is unbelievable, I love it to bits!!! We had a great time together, strolling along the beach, going swimming, getting a bit of a tan, meeting some of Umut's friends. I enjoyed going shopping to the local bazaar, soaking up the atmosphere, admiring the Aegean sea, so peaceful and calm and serene.... Good-bye Turkey, thank you for everything, my moments here are unforgettable, I will treasure them for the rest of my life! ... read more
