On Monday we took a trip to Tiberius on the sea of Galilee. The first place we went to was Ein Hod, a community of artists. This little village was built on a hill and was filled with galleries and museums of art, such as a special museum we went to that featured a style of art called DADA. We went to the Dada museum were we saw the works of Marcel Jenko one of the creators of this type of art, as well as several different artist's work. Then we went to a music box museum! The man who owns the museum is a really kind guy and showed us his enormous collection of old musical devises. He showed us his many Victrolas, player pianos and lots of old music boxes. He even let me ... read more

For the last couple days my family and I went to see the north of Israel. The first thing we did was go to an artist colony called Ein Hod. They had a lot of art work hanging around and they had a museum with the largest antique music box collection in the country. We saw quite a few music boxes, player pianos and the first record player (Victrola). During the great Mount Carmel fire in Israel, people were worried the collection was going to be destroyed but lucky most of the items were able to be salvaged! The phonograph's wax album recorded the sound of the heat and it was very interesting to see and hear. After we went to the artist colony, we headed to the sea of Galilee which is not only really ... read more

March 3 - sea of gailee. We spent the first part of the morning on the sea of gailee. It was so peaceful and calm. It is hard to believe that Jesus spent so much time on this lake. He walked on this lake and gathered his first followers from here. We went to the site where a boat, similar to the one Jesus sailed in was found. It was an incredible site to see how they preserved the boat. We went to Mt. Beatitudes and were treated to beautiful gardens and a peaceful setting. There was such a calmness to the site. One of tour group members read the Beatitudes to us from one of gardens. We just came down from the mount and went to the shores of lake galilee. We went to see ... read more

We started the day with a sail on the Sea of Galilee. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was shining, and the water sparkled. We sailed from Tiberias on the southern end of Galilee. In the time of Y-shua, Tiberias was the capital of Galilee and the seat of Herod Antipas, one of Herod the Great’s sons. After an hour of sailing, we landed at Ginosar on the north end of Galilee. The Sea of Galilee is 13 miles long, 9 miles wide, and approximately 80 feet deep. The Yarden River (Jordan River) enters the Sea of Galilee from the north and exits from the south before continuing further. From Ginosar, we drove to Kefar Nahum (Capernaum). We visited the ancient ruins of the city, and saw what was left of a magnificent synagogue that ... read more

Today started our with a great breakfast at our hotel. The most interesting thing at breafast was the orange juice...check out the picture of the juicer...totally automatic....fresh oranges in the hopper and when you pulled the handle for juice you watched the oranges fall, get sliced in half, sent on to juicers to the left and right, pressed, the pulp and seeds separated and your juice into the glass....pretty neat. It was then off to the Sea of Galilee which is right behind our hotel. We went to a museum which house a boat that was discovered and excavated in 1986 which is similar to the boat Jesus or the disciples would have used and is two thousand years old. Two brothers were walking along the beach after a severe drought and found some ancient ... read more

Well we made it! We have arrived at our hotel the Nof Ginosar on the Sea of Galilee. It is a Kibbitz which originated in Russia (according to our host). Everyone here works for the Kibbitz, then the ibbitz provides for their needs...even down to the car they drive....sounds lie a commune to me. Our host also told us that Israel is pretty much self-sufficient...they don't import any food except coconuts and pineapples. Also we all need to quit complaining about gas prices.....it is average of 8.00 a gallon here!!! Thats why they have smaller cars and many hybrids and electrics. It was a 2 1/2 hr drive from the airport to the hotel but it got dark on us about halfway there. I did get some good pics from the bus window. The land is ... read more

"Good morning! How are you today?" asks the tour guide. - "Great, thank you!" answer the passengers with one voice as the boat disembarks from the shore of Kinneret. One says "Hallelujah" for a few cheap chuckles and guffaws. "Are you all having a good time?" - "Yaaaaay!" "I just have to announce that once we enter American territory, the captain and I have to jump overboard, as we don't have a Green Card. We're not allowed to work in America." More laughter. It's that type of light-hearted, harmless jokes that tour guides are drilled to tell to lighten the atmosphere and make everybody enjoy themselves. Somewhat unexpectedly, the Star-Spangled Banner starts playing, the on-board speakers ensuring that everybody within a radius of 1km cannot escape from hearing it. Most of the passengers sing along. Apologies to everyone for the radio silence the last little while! Things have been crazy during the week, and I've been out of town the last two weekends. The weekend before last I visited hilariously tenuously linked "family friends" in Ashdod for the Shabbat, and had a wonderful, wonderful time. The Seters live on a moshav (self-contained farming community, formerly collectivized) just outside of the city of Ashdod, near the coast. It was ridiculously humid, but the company more than made up for it. There are no pictures though, I'm afraid - no photography on Shabbat! This weekend I made a failed attempt to escape the unseasonably hot weather in Jerusalem (I feel justified in this - all anyone can talk about here is how unusually hot it is!), by going up north to the Galilee, ... read more

Last weekend I went with Roees friends to the Kinerret. We bought meat, salad, pita and hummus... all the necessary stuff. The first car left on friday afternoon with Yohai, Jenny, Ohad and me. We arrived a little late at the Kinerret so instead of taking a hike in the Golan we went to visit Tiberias. Tiberias is located on the coast of the Kinerret. Here we took a look at the ancient ruins of the old city and ate a frozen yoghurt along the promenade. The Kinerret is located 209 meters below sea level, it is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth and the second-lowest lake in the world (after the Dead Sea, a saltwater lake). Water levels are dangerously low nowadays, putting the Sea at risk of becoming irreversibly salinized by the salt water ... read more
