Alex and I went to Chester last night to look at the lights, and to see if either of us could get decent pictures in the dark. We had a lovely time, getting there just at dusk, and nothing to do except wander about gently. It wasn't cold and not raining, so perfect. My camera , being cheap and little, took about 10 seconds to get the shot, and as I didn't have a tripod they're a bit wobbly. In the end I rolled the camera round in a circle deliberately while I took the pic, and I like the result - next year's Christmas card! Alex's are not so flippant.... read more

I have been kept pretty quiet for the last 3 weeks by a nasty cold/flu bug which has kept me indoors doing very little - except coughing and falling asleep. So we decided that as Alex had a day off yesterday, a dose of sea air was in order. Here are the pictures.... read more

Well, this is a little complicated, so you'll need to concentrate. Sophie was going to her friend's wedding near Bristol, so she came here first, and then she, I and Martha travelled down to stay with my friend Hilary, who lives handily close to the wedding venue. And Sophie went to the wedding while Hil, her sister Rose, and I babysat. Easy! Also, Hilary popped me down to see Liz as she was out of hospital for a few days - back in again now for the next lot of chemo. It was great to see her.... read more

Alex had a week off work and he wanted to go to Glasgow and see Martha!. I don't blame him, she's a delight. We stopped off halfway for a look round Lancaster, then tootled up the M6 on Thursday afternoon. We had great fun with Sophie and Tom, and also my cousin Chris was there for a couple of days, so we were able to introduce her to geocaching. Then Sophie and Tom went off for a day and a night to Oban, and Alex and I were left in charge of Martha. We were ok, except not very good at working out how to strap up the car seat or the buggy - in fact we were very slow and pretty thick! Martha will tell you.......... We left yesterday morning and spent a couple of ... read more

Alex and I decided a trip to a Shropshire high point was in order this morning, so we got up early and left home for a pleasant ride along lanes to the Stiperstones, a high ridge of rough stones, with lots of rocky outcrops. One of these is called the Devil's chair, to which he returns when its misty. Luckily the sky was clear for our visit. Local schoolchildren had provided information boards along the way, drawing attention to various plants and animals, and the way the heather is being managed: one board had a lovely drawing of "what we think the devil may look like". Just in case we met him up there! Excellent views all round, and some caches as well.... read more

This weekend was a busy one. Mum and Dad celebrated 67 years of marriage on Saturday. They had lots of cards and flowers, and the chef at the Rhallt baked a lovely cake. Then on Sunday we played a rounders match against the next village - Llangyniew v. Dolanog. All good fun, the vicar (who is vicar to both parishes) was ref and first aider, there was a van with barrels of cider - just like the Archers - and the sun shone while Alex took photos. it ended in a draw, and sausage and chips in the pub!... read more

Today we held our 2nd annual village show. it was exhausting but great fun. There are all sorts of craft/flower/cookery classes which we don't take too seriously as a panel of children does the judging - to be fair they are pretty good. Except they never rate Alex's photos, as they tend to go for the "ahhh" factor. Then there's tea and cakes, followed by all sorts of jollity as you'll see.... read more

The warm sunshine continues, and as Alex had a rare day off, we decided to go top the seaside. There were a couple of caches that had been on the list for a while, one of which needed to be looked for at low tide as its in the middle of the estuary! We had a lovely walk, over the bridge to Barmouth for lunch, then we jumped on a little ferry boat to get across the river, and headed back to the car. A round walk of about 7 miles I should think. The dog has taken to her bed already!... read more

Just returned from 5 days in Glasgow, which also included a day in Edinburgh while the festival is on - so it was very busy. Sophie and Tom made me feel very welcome, and although I managed to fuse the kitchen whilst de-frosting the freezer, they still fed me! Tom was busy directing an opera, which is going to the festival, so Sophie and I were left holding that gorgeous baby! Now she understands such a lot,. and runs about busily, she keeps you on your toes. And it was lovely. Martha can't say Granny (or Grandma) so we are both called "gr"... read more
