you lucky kids! Now i am going to talk about home. first and foremost (at least here) is the world cup. Its a bit of an odd situation b/c scotland didn't qualify but england did. so there are masses of england fans in ed, and masses of scottish anti-english fans who wish to get pissed and fight. I am trying my best to support USA, but they kind of suck (i am a bit bitter currently cause we went down 3-0 in our opener against the czech republic yesterday). so england won 1-0 over paraguay on saturday and they play again thursday, USA will play again sometime this week also. Now to the stuff that isn't going to totally bore you. I am having lots of fun laying around and buying things i can't afford (no ... read more

Geo: 55.9267, -2.94718This morning I moved hostels, out to Globetrotters. I only moved because I have paid for it in February and would be a waste to pay to stay else where. Was there for two minutes to leave my bag in storage and got the mini-bus back into town. Today I was finally going to do some sightseeing. Met Judy and we caught the bus to Edinburgh Butterfly and Garden World. We were quite excited. The bus ride took a long time and was worth our £2.30 for the day ticket. The butterfly house was warm and humid. The butterflies were very quick and it was hard to take photos of them as they flew about. Some of them were very pretty. In general it was the colourful ones that didn't stop flying. The plainer ones ... read more

Day 19: Saturday, June 10: Isle of Skye, Scotland It is very interesting being this far North in the summer. The sun didn't set until 10:30pm, but even when we left the pub at 1am, there was still a twilight.. Then I woke up to bright lights at 4:30am, which means the sunrise was between 3:30 and 4am.. Anyway, back onto the bus, we headed around for a tour of Isle of Skye, a Northwestern Island of Scotland. It is very beautiful here and once the haze burned off, the weather was perfect (cept for all the damn bug bites). as he told us stories of battles and history, we took a hike up one of the mountains and swam in a river where 7 heads bobbed around about 300 years ago. We headed back for ... read more

First, some formalities… As you may have noticed, I am prone to exclaiming over my love of “gothic architecture”. Before we go any further, I feel that some explanation of this phrase is in order. Now, although it is fairly apparent that I hold an appreciation for old architecture, the truth is that I have little actual knowledge of architectural styles and tend to refer to any old building that takes my fancy as “gothic”. That being said, I will not tolerate any architecture buffs leaving snide comments about my forthcoming errors. Such comments will be swiftly deleted and their writers publicly shamed in future entries. And now to the entry… I arrived in fair Edinburgh this morning, greeted by gloomy rain and a cold wind. I suppose it was inevitable that I would one day ... read more

Geo: 55.9267, -2.94718Went to the travel agent this morning and organised another tour- it is so last minute as it leaves in less than 1 week!! Then met Judy for some sightseeing. She wanted to go home to get her passport as she was in the middle of organising her National Insurance number. So we agreed to meet in an hour. In the mean time I went to the Internet Cafe. Heard back from Judy- she has been evicted!! There was £3000 owing in bills and the Real Estate wouldn't allow anyone else on the lease until it was paid. She had stuff to sort out, so went walking. Around the city there is a display of cows. They are all decorated by artists and will soon be auctioned for charity. I got a cow map ... read more

Geo: 55.9267, -2.94718Met Angie at the Info centre and we walked to the car, Nikki was there and we went to pick up Jude from her new residence. We then drove around looking for Interleith Park to go to TreeFest. It was something free and in the nice outdoor weather. There were food vans, displays demonstrating ways of looking after the environment, activities with wood- bowling, through the axe at wood, etc. We managed to spend a few hours here. Nikki and Angie went home with a free cherry tree. I don't know what they are going to do with it when they move into their flat?? After we left we stopped at a big supermarket. I organised to have dinner at Judy's new place- (she moved in last night) as she has a kitchen and ... read more

Geo: 55.9267, -2.94718Got up nice and early this morning and looked outside and saw lots of fog! Walked into town and past the castle which sits in the middle of the town on a hill. It was surrounded by fog. Walked to the travel agents to find that they didn't open until 10am- for another hour. This was no good to me as I had to meet Angie at 10 in town. Wanted to organise another tour that leaves very soon- yes it is a bit last minute! Slowly walked to town and had breakfast at McDonalds. When I came out, it was sunny and blue sky!! Yeah! Edinburgh is pretty, looks old, but I like it. Waited for Angie at the Info Centre. Read my book in the sun while I was waiting. Met her ... read more

Geo: 55.9267, -2.94718 Packed up my belongings- they did manage to fit back into my bag. Walked to the bus stop with Andy and caught the bus into Swansea. Andy got off at the uni (he had to work) and I said good-bye and many thank-you's. At Swansea caught another bus to Cardiff- slept on the bus. Then another bus to the airport. Considering that this was Cardiff's Internatinal Airport, it is very quiet!! Not much taking off or landing. The plane was delayed by half an hour. Once on board the pilot told us that we would arrive soon and that the weather was a nice 22 degrees- great! 40 mins later we had an announcement that it was too foggy to land in Edinburgh and instead we are landing at Glasgow!! Unbeliveable. What a ... read more
