Hey folks I found a cheap internet cafe so I thought I would just drop a quick update. A quick hello to John in South Carolina, USA. I guess he was checking out this website and randomly subscribed to my blog to check it outl You were saying that you wanted to do a trip like mine someday and trust me when I tell you...DO IT NOW!!! Its seriously the best thing that I have ever done and it has completely changed my outlook on life and everything. I have spoken to so many people that I have met on my travels that have sold cars, retirement savings, houses, you name it to come on a trip like this and not a single one of them has regretted it! Now that that is out of the ... read more

Had a lovely day walking around Edinburgh. It seems to be a a very lively City, it is just a shame that we are not here for the festival. We did get a glimpse of what it must be like during the festival as there were lots of street artists. There was also a group of thespians walking the streets dressed as zombies shouting brains as they were advertising their version of Macbeth. They did look quite scary from a distance, and Kayles had to hide behind the Mercat stone yet when they came closer the make up was actually quite crap and they were not scary at all. We also had a bit of a scare in the tourist info where I was paying for the use of the internet when I decided to leave ... read more

Arrived in surprisingly sunny scotland today after a beautiful drive through the north of england. on the way up we decided to join the Da Vinci trail and visit rosslyn chapel. I stupidly imagined it to be exactly how it is in the book. Perhaps i just missed out the part of the story when the fella has to pay 7 quid to get in, and the part where he admires the corragated iron roof and the scaffolding. In the little booth where you pay they had displays over the walls showing pictures of the chapel (pre Dan Brown) and the history of the place which was really interesting. the fella kept asking if we were coming in- 'Yes in just a minute!'- but after we had pretty much seen all that was inside anyway, we barged ... read more

Well here we are in Edinburgh, Scotland. Our time in Dublin was great and we were excited to continue on our trip. Getting to the airport couldn't have been easier, we walked arround the corner and there was the bus to the airport. Hopping on the bus and getting settled for our ride to the airport and snapping a few more pictures along the way. We got to the airport in plenty of time and headed to the checkin counter, there was a long line for the counter. getting through the line we start to check in. As we place our luggage on the scale we find out that our bags were heavier than was allowed. Hum, that is strange, we had no problems getting to Dublin other than having to spend €10 for and extra ... read more

Hey everyone, We just finished a couple of crazy day trips. Yesterday we went out to Perth (to see Scone palace) and to Pitlochry (to visit the Edradour distillery). We've done soooo much walking - we figure we get atleast 40km a day (especially the past few days). You should see our legs- they're getting super toned! Yesterday - after a tour of the distillary our tourguide offered to walk back to the main town with us via a shortcut through the woods (on the way there we took the much longer way (1 hour of walking uphill!). It was really cool, he was wearing a kilt and we saw an apparently rare red deer! The weather here's been unusually hot - every local we run into tells us it hasn't been this hot in years ... read more

Hey everybody, It's only been a couple days since we last wrote but it feels like its been a month. We've visited most the sites here in Edinburgh and today we took a day trip out to Stirling. We were getting a little cheap and a little homesick so we had exclusively McDonald's for meals today. In case anyone is wondering, no there is no McHaggis with tatties. By the way Denise, Tamara says that it would have been 7am and try answering the phone every once in awhile (she still loves and misses you). Mom, Dad and France I love and miss you guys too, hopefully all is well in the 32 degree renovation department. To our buds, we hope that you guys are doing okay and managing to get drunk without us every now ... read more

It was a bit creepy last night. With no a/c and more insufferable heat I had to leave my floor to ceiling window wide open just to get some air flow. However, with all the construction being done on the facade of the hotel there was scaffolding right outside my window. If some enterprising thief had wanted to steal a nice digital camera, an MP3 player, a bottle of Scotch and an empty wallet, he could have easily shinnied his way up and into my room. Breakfast was down in the deepest bowels of the hotel. It was a pretty decent spread but featured mostly cereals and juices. No eggs, bacon or hash browns. I made do with some toast and butter. Then washed it down with some decent orange juice. When we left the hotel ... read more

Hello everyone! So we took the night train from London to Scotland last night. It was a 7 hour ride - so we got a half decent nights sleep. I have to say it... Edinburgh is sooo much better than London. When we first got off the train there was a nice fog covering the peaks of endless beautiful, towering buildings. We stayed in Old Town (just a small part of the city) all day - and as you'd expect every building is old and beautiful. We wandered around Edniburgh for 3 hours waiting for the restaurants to open up for breakfast... Alex had Haggis for breakfast, I chickened out and went for the equally-cool-and-adventurous scrambled eggs! We spent some time looking around St. Giles Cathedral (so beautiful) and then learnt all about Scotland's history at ... read more

I made the mistake of watching the morning TV news. The weather report promised more record high temperatures all over Europe. Luckily for us Scotland's record high temps would only reach the upper 80's instead of the near 100's further South. Oddly enough as we started loading up on to the bus it was actually a bit nippy outside. Today's itinerary sounded like another winner to me: We would head to the touristy town of Pitlochry, then to Sterling and Sterling Castle, followed by a drive along the Firth of Forth on in to Edinburgh. I was aware of Sterling Castle's role in the whole Braveheart/William Wallace/Robert Bruce era and it was eager to see this area of Scotland which also hosted the battles of Sterling Bridge, Falkirk and Bannockburn. Before the movie Braveheart came out ... read more

Sorry I have been out of touch. I did get a short placement over the last two weeks at a law office and was pretty busy with that. Then I should have gone back to job hunting yesterday, but I spent the day taking care of simon. He pulled a muscle in his back at his horrible kitchen porter job. I hate that job cause it hurts simon and takes up his whole weekend. But it doesn't matter, because as i was printing CVs and getting ready to head out today, one of the many angencies I am registered with rang and offered me a post! It is for one month and then continues on a monthly basis as the project has to reapply for funding each month, but the girl i am replacing has been ... read more
