On the 16th of July (just over a week ago) I visited Birdworld and Underwaterworld near Farnham, Surrey and I quite liked the little collection overall. There were a few rarities in the collection such as White Woodpeckers, Crested Guans Pink Pigeons and few nice Turacos (Black-billed etc.), Splendid Glossy Starlings, Duyvenbode's Lories, Great Bustards, three Rainbow Lorikeet subspecies and more as well as a few more common species (of course it was nothing compared to Walsrode which I had visited not long before). The place was nice looking in general and had some very nice areas such as an area of woodland fenced off with free-roaming pheasants and a nice area with a pond and various aviaries as well as the rather nice temperate house which makes a nice impression when you first enter. The lovely Sarah and Paul hosted Caterham's social event of the year yesterday afternoon in a backyard BBQ. Rellies attended from as far afield as Bristol and a good time was held by all. The soccer ball has been located but it is feared the trampoline will never be the same. On Sunday I went round to my uncle Graham's motorbike shed and we got to sit on the motorbike and I got to rev the engine!... read more

This morning we went to visit the spot where Briony's ashes are scattered. It was nice to see there were already some fresh flowers there. The new plaque and surround looks nice. We were being watched by a tiny little rabbit. The photos don't do the bling justice.... read more

Excursion to Box Hill On the 1st day of our staycation, 11 May, we headed for Box Hill. We took the train from Victoria station. Having been away from Vauxhall for a few years, Mark doesn’t feel nostalgic about the time he used to commute to Vauxhall. However, when our train was running through the rail bridge and showing the skyscrapers around Vauxhall, he found something strange – his former office skyscraper, Market Towers, had disappeared. He told me that there will be an exclusive hotel replaced on the site of 1 Nime Elms Lane in the near future. Having travelled with the train in the lunch time, we took lunch on the train. We got off at Box Hill & Westhumble station. It was a long time ago we visited Box Hill. I couldn’t remember ... read more

Geo: 51.3214, -0.279403Time check: 17:30......This time next week, Christmas will be over! For many, the turkey will be a wrecked and distant memory with perhaps just a few slices left in the fridge. There will have been much "zzzzing" in front of the TV. Well for some perhaps, but we will be well under way on our journey from Copenhagen to Tromso in Norway. An overland journey into to the Arctic Circle by train, boat and dog sled!Join us for another action packed caper............. My sincere apologies. DUBAI PROVED TOO MUCH FOR THE MAN! I left off the last blog on our last day. Just to recap:-Monday 8th December: 0715: Up and sitting on our balcony looking out at the cityscape. The worlds tallest building, the Burj Khalifa (828m/2,722 ft) sits glistening in the clear morning ... read more

We had a lovely family visit in Surrey with Louise, Colin and their boys Lachlan and James. As Lachlan said they had 10 in the house with us staying, it took a while to work out he had not only counted Glenn and nanna but the two dogs,Dash and Rascal to get to ten. Louise and Colin have a beautiful house in Oxshott so there was plenty of room for all ten of us and we were able to take long walks in the nearby common. Oxshott is only a short half hour train ride to London so a number of visits were made including one for James's birthday when we all enjoyed a fun day at Ripley's "believe it or not" followed by burgers for lunch. We also spent a day at Hampton Court touring ... read more

As most of you know, the past year has been a somewhat difficult one for Mike and I. I, in particular, have had mixed feelings about moving to the United Kingdom and therefore the final week of goodbyes and farewells became incredibly emotionally taxing and somewhat exhausting. Usually saying goodbye and turning my sights to new adventures on the horizon gives me a tingle in my stomach and anxious desire to explore. This, I will admit, went very differently. Trying to coax myself with one of my favourite travel quotes by Christopher Columbus, “You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” Needless to say, by the time the plane had taken off, I was in floods of tears. I even forgot to do my usual ritual of ... read more
