So tonight I have been researching (really should have been packing). I have come across some interesting blogs from people who have stayed in Ghana....some of the things I have found out (though these are, of course, heresay) are: There are lots and lots of lizards. Mainly in bathrooms. There is often no toilet paper in said bathrooms. Ghanain food is spicy and oily (I might cry now) Coca Cola is very popular (hooray!) I should expect to have the word "Obruni!" shouted at me a lot (means "White person") and people will want to stop and talk to me. If a taxi is to seat 4, the taxi driver will cram 7 people in before going anywhere. There is no hot water. None. If you want hot water, you need to boil it. I'd better ... read more

In 48 hours time I should (providing all goes well) be in Ghana. Eek. This has been an incredibly tough year for me so far, and I need to do this to find out who I am again, go back to who I used to be. I'm looking forward to it, but it hasn't yet sunk in really... Tonight I have been googling, and I have decided that google is not my friend. Other than an aeroplane coming in from Africa bursting into flames at Heathrow today, I have discovered: Credit cards are very likely to get cloned You can't drink the water - must be bottled Small children will probably grab me and want to hold my hand, whilst shouting "Obruni, Obruni!" at me They have frequent power cuts You can't get Ghanain cedis (the ... read more

Oh how plans change... As we said in our last blog our plans to return to life on the road have changed, changed and changed again since we returned back to the UK in February 2010. After a slightly longer stopover than we'd initially planned we are now just days (well tens of days) away from our next trip so what have we been doing in the 3 years we've been back home.. Well the most major thing was getting married back in February 2011 and we are looking forward to celebrating our 2nd anniversary in the country where it all came about.. The Philippines. This place will always be special to us as it was the place Dale got down on one knee and asked Sophie to be his wife and we feel sure that ... read more

It is possible to get the impression that they don't get a lot of tourists in Northampton, or perhaps that tourists are pretty insignificant in the scheme of things. Not for a moment did did we feel unwelcome and we were always treated well. There are some indications though. There are signs, for instance, to the Tourist Information Centre around the town area but actually finding it is difficult. You need to go into a theatre where there is no indication that there might be any information, wander about watching people practising for plays, past small groups having cups of tea and, as an afterthoutht, spot a desk and a stand that has the requisite title. No one about so go an have a poke about. After a while a lady comes up. A map of ... read more

Hello everyone sorry this is not an exciting travelogue of adventures but is the quickest to update people who want to know how I'm doing!!! If you don't....stop reading now :) Good news: Am now out of plaster after only 4 wks . That's really good apparently. So I reckon it's all thanks to absent healing ( those who sent it to me ), Reiki and healing meditation I say. The consultant didn't think so!! Started physio on Wed and can walk with crutches properly at last. Am doing better than I thought as was vey anxious without plaster on to protect the leg. But there is no pain and I just need patience ....oh god there is always a catch !!! Bad news: It may be 3 months !!!!!for me to be totally fit to ... read more

I am writing this in my sister's spare room with one foot in plaster and a very bruised other foot! Let me explain!! The Indian disaster.... in trying to avoid Mumbai as my accommodation was round the corner from the Taj Hotel and seemed a bit risky so soon after the terrorists had visted, I planned to spend 1 night in an airport hotel before flying on to Pune. The hotel was at least 30 mins form the airport driven by an Indian who couldn't speak any English just called me sister and who didn't know where it was! When we found it around midnight, the car was searched by 4 very young security boys in paramilitary uniforms who really didn't have a clue. Next day found I was booked into a fab hotel ...45 mins ... read more

Alex and i woke up early to catch the bus into shepards bush to pick up some sleeping mats and drikns for the weekend, after that we set off from east acton into the london equivelent of spencer stree train station for our hour train ride to banbury. once a banbury we waited in line with hundreds of others for the 'happy bus' to northhamptonshire areodrome for the gatecrasher festival. the whole trip took us about4 hours but once we got there we quickly got in the mood as we walked in the gates. We picked up our free tents on the way in (we pre-purcheced a package that included a tent) then tried to find some of our friends who drove in with all the heavy stuff (beer!) it took a fair while as the ... read more
