On the 5th of September, we said farewell to Damo as he left for his long bus ride back to London, as this was also the day that our Scottish adventure was to begin. We had our rental car delivered to us at Agnes’s place, filled out the paperwork, under my name now that I’m 25 and all and all responsible and stuff now... Anyway, Alex and I said goodbye to Agnes, and drove to fuel up the car. We bought a map at the service station, and Alex, being unable to drive a manual, was gifted the task of navigating us through the country. Luckily, the trip to Inverness, our first stop was quite easy, getting onto a road called the A82, it turned out it led us straight there. We stopped off in a ... read more

The trip up to Glasgow was a long one to say the least; it involved us catching a train from Ipswich to London followed by a bus that took 10 hrs up to Glasgow. We arrived in Glasgow at around 10pm and jumped straight into a cab to get to Agnes’ house. Agnes is a distant relative of Alex and Lach though marriage, three of us had met her before on her last visit to Australia. We were given two small rooms to set up in and pretty much went straight to sleep. The next morning we are up around lunch time to get ready to go in and see Glasgow. We caught the bus in which took us about 45 mins but once in the city it was same old same old again in trying ... read more

To fill in the gaps between our top deck extravaganza and making out way up to Scotland here’s what happened... The 15th Aug was my birthday and well we didn't have up to too much due to us all not feeling so good and well just being worn out! we made our way to the movie to see the dart knight and well that was pretty much it... the next day it was on a train up to our home away from home - Ipswich where we caught up with Alex’s family sue and Keith and prepared ourselves for their engagement party. The night was a big family affair where we danced and talked till we were dead on our feet and had to go back to the house. We made it out to the Addelburgh ... read more

August 15th 2008

just a little note to say a massive thank-you to everyone who sent me msgs in all forms for my birthday. the day of my birthday was i guess as expected a little sad, i hadn't felt home sick like that before, not to mention at i was actually sick being that it was the day after we returned from 24 day drinkfest around europe. to wake to a happy birthday from damo, lach and alex was a nice start as we were all sharing a itty bitty room that night. it was great to speak to mum and dad in the morning when we woke up, followed by a chat with vanessa and ian put a smile on my face. the mixtrue of text and facebook mesages made me smile in the afternoon after alex ... read more

Day 24 Leaving Amsterdam a little seedy we travelled to Brugge in Belgium. We only spent a very short time in Brugge, enough to have our last lunch together. The cross-channel ferry took us back to Dover and then on to London, we arrived quite late around 8 ish. We said goodbye to all our new friends and exchanged e-mails and phone numbers as we jumped into a cab back to East Action where we spent the next two nights. Just in case you were wondering i am aware that somehow this 24 day trip has somehow turned into 25... i think the stuff up happened when writing somewhere around Pisa but can't be bothered fixing it... Sorry! Oh and for more details on the stories... call me, msg me there are still untold stories!!!! xoxoxo ... read more

Amsterdam Day 22 On the way to Amsterdam we stopped off at a cheese and clog factory. Obviously they showed us how they make their cheese and handmade clogs. Alex and bought some very yummy cheese which we made our way though when me got back to England. Once in Amsterdam we checked into out last hostel and went on a walking tour of the city. We were taken through the main part of town through to the red light district where we were shown all the points of interest. We were then taken to a sex show which was well... different. The show was not as bad as you might think, a few cringe moments but also full of laughs and for some who were chosen for the audience participation part of the show it ... read more

Berlin. Day 21 We had to wake up early today to pack the coach and leave for a long drive to Berlin, with many of the group feeling under the weather due to the night before. On the way we stopped off in Dresden, in Germany, a place that was flattened during WW2, but had been rebuilt using the pieces of the original buildings that had been destroyed during the Blitz. Dresden’s buildings therefore look rather dirty and worn, a result of the fire bombs that scorched everything in the city. Apart from this, the city was rather nice, but full of wasps, could not believe how many of the little bastards were flying around our food and drink, and seemed to plague any store that had its door open. Alex tried to walk into a ... read more

Poland to the Czech Republic Auschwitz and Birkenau Day 19 This was a morning that was not one I could prepare myself for. All I can say is that it was a moving moment at we walked around the concentration camps. The sheer size of them blew me away and the history was shocking to say the least. We were taken on a guided tour of the sight which took around two hours. I think that pictures speak louder than words in this instance so I’d prefer to show you the pictures Alex took rather than try to explain in words what it was like. ... read more

Czech Republic day 19. We left Auschwitz on a rather sombre and humbling note, arriving in Prague later that day. The plans for the evening were a meal followed by a drive into town followed by a walking tour. The meal was quite good, however we missed the drive in and the walking tour due to a mix up with the rooms for the boys. Lach, Damo and Alex and a few of the other guys from the tour had been allocated a room that was being refurbished, as in paint buckets all over the place, drying paint on the walls and dust all over the place, with the beds and mattresses up against the wall. A room that was not fit to sleep in by any means, but with the Hostel fully booked the guys ... read more
